The Effect of Covering Materials on Prolongation of Green Period in Zoysiagrass and Cool-season Grass in Early Winter (피복이 한국잔디 및 한지형 잔디의 초겨울 녹색기간연장에 미치는 영향)

  • This study conducted to find out the best way to prolong green period of Zoysiagrass and Cool-season grass from 1999 to 2001 in Korea. Treatments were control, vinyl, black shade net, green shade net, black shade net+vinyl, green shade net+vinyl, vinyl+black shade net, and vinyl+green shade net for Zoysiagrass. For cool-season grass, treatments were control, non-punched vinyl and punched vinyl. Data on temperature, light intensity, humidity, leaf color and chlorophyll were collected. Plot size was 2 by 2 and the experiment was conducted using completely randomized design with three replication. Zoysiagrass Green period of Zoysiagrass depended on temperature and light intensity than humidity. Effective method of prolongation of green period in Zoysiagrass was to covered it with vinyl during early October to early November, and then using vinyl+black shade net from end of November. Cool-season grass Effective method of prolongation of green period in Cool-season grass was by covering it with vinyl during mid-November to mid-December, and then using vinyl+black shade net from end of December.

  • This study analyzed the reasons for extending the construction period considering factors such as the quality of construction materials, safety and cost-effectiveness of construction, size of construction, academic schedule, and local conditions (complaints) when determining the appropriate period for school construction projects tailored to a specific region or educational office. Based on the example of construction projects for school facility improvement by education office A, this study conducted a case study to identify the motives for construction period extension. To determine the appropriate construction period for school facilities, this study conducted a comprehensive review of construction projects under the jurisdiction of education office A, examined data from the Meteorological Data Open Portal, and performed advanced statistical analysis. Future case studies must determine the appropriate construction period for school facilities in a rational and systematics.

Physiological and Ecological Studies on Prolongation of the Green Perido in Korean Lawn (잔디의 녹색기간연장에 관한 생리 생태학적 연구)

  • Korean lawn, Zoysia japonica STEUD, is the type of a perennial warm-season lawn grass that has a naturally green period during 5 months from May to September. This study was carried out to detect the effects of N-P-K fertilization, regrowth capacity after mowing and chlorophyll contents on prolongation of the green period in Zoysia japonica grasslands. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The effects of nitrogen fertilizer application on Zoysia japonica grasslands were affected on regrowth capacity after mowing, green color of leaf canopies and chlorophyll contents, respectively. 2. A the experimental plots which applied 45g/$m^2$/10 weeks of $N_3$ fertilizer, there were high significant effects on prolongation of the green period and the plots of phosphorus and potassium had additive effects. 3. Prolongation of the green period to the last ten days of October was obviously possible by slow degrees in proportion to increment of N-P-K fertilization. 4. However, it is interpreted that more prolongation of the green period is impossible with N-P-K fertilization and irrigation treatments, unless the intermediate turfgrasses between $C_3$ and $C_4$ plants must be found and bred.

Effect of Cool-season Grass Overseeding on Turf Quality, Green Period and Turf Density in Zoysiagrass Lawn (한국잔디에 한지형잔디 덧파종에 따른 잔디품질, 녹색기간 및 밀도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to examine the effect of cool-season grass overseeding on the green period, turf quality and density in zoysiagrass lawn. Treatments were perennial ryegrass (PR) overseeding ($60g\;m^{-2}$) on medium-leaf type zoysiagrass, Kentucky bluegrass (KB) overseeding ($20g\;m^{-2}$) on medium-leaf type zoysiagrass and narrow-leaf type zoysiagrass, and no overseeding on medium-leaf type zoysiagrass. Overseeding of KB or PR effectively provided quality improvement of zoysiagrass lawn by extending green-period about one month in spring and two months in fall season. PR overseeding showed quick green cover within 2-3 weeks but decreased the quality of overseeded zoysiagrass lawn during the summer season. Whereas, KB overseeding showed slow green cover taking two to three month after seeding but provided stable and good turf quality throughout the years. KB or PR overseeding significantly increased the turf density of zoysiagrass lawn except the period of summer depression of PR. The ground coverage of cool-season grasses ranged from 30 to 80% with considerable seasonal variation. As a result, KB and PR have their strengths and weaknesses as an overseeding material. Thus, the use of KB and PR as a mixture would provide better overseeding performance in zoysiagrass lawn.

Effect of Paraffin Oil on Prolongation of Green Period in Zoysiagrass (파라핀오일 처리가 한국잔디의 녹색기간 연장에 미치는 영향)

  • These studies were carried out to ascertain the effects of paraffin oil on prolongation of the green leaf color period in Zoysiagrass. Fifty-fold diluted 98% paraffin oil treatment obtained the lowest reduction rate of green color. In early October we sprayed 50-fold, 100-fold and 200-fold diluted 98% paraffin oil in a Zoysia japonica field in Hapcheon of Gyeongnam and Sangju of Gyeongbuk and in a Z. matrella field in Gumjung of Busan and Anseong of Gyeonggii. Leaf color maintained for 60 days after treatment in Zoysia japonica. Leaf color remained for 60 days after treatment in Anseong, Hapcheon and Sangju when treated in the mid-October. Chlorophyll content was higher in paraffin oil treatment areas than in control areas in early October. Weight reduction rate was lower in the paraffin oil treated than in untreated leaves of Zoysiagrass when sprayed in Gumjung and Anseong in early October and mid-October, respectively. The chlorophyll content in leaves of Z. japonica was increased by increasing the spray volume of paraffin oil in the same dose treated in Lexington, Kentucky, USA. Paraffin oil can be used to prolongate of Zoysiagrass leaf color.

  • Korean Lawn. Zoysia japonica Steud. is the type of a perennial warm-season turfgrass keeping green leaf color for 5 months from May to September in natural condition in Korea. This Studies were carried out to obtain the effects of N-P-K fertilization, regrowth capacity after mowing and chlorophyll contents on prolongation of the green leaf color period in Zoysia japonica Steud turfgrass areas. Characteristics of Quality in Jeolpyun with Different Amounts of Ramie (모시잎 첨가량에 따른 절편의 품질특성)

  • Jeolpyun with different amounts of added ramie (Ramie Jeolpyun) was prepared and the quality characteristics were examined. Texture profile analysis, Hunters color and total microbial counts were carried out during storage for 4 days. Sensory evaluation was carried out during storage for 2 days. The L value of Jeolpyun with 0% added ramie was one of the highest in the sample and increased with increasing storage time. In texture profile analysis, hardness, chewiness, gumminess were increased with increasing storage time. The hardness of Ramie Jeolpyun with 80% added ramie was one of the lowest in the samples. The total microbial counts of Ramie Jeolpyun were increased during storage. The results of sensory evaluation showed that Ramie Jeolpyun with 60% and 80% added ramie had a high score in color, flavor and softness.

Effect of Packing Methods on Green Powder Tea Quality during storage at Cold Temperature (가루차 저온 저장 중 포장방법별 품질변화)

  • The effect of packing methods on the green powder tea were investigated by examining quality changes during cold stroage. Packing was performed with aluminum packs having an antioxidant and a wateiproofing agent in vacuum Alumiunum packing with treatment or not showed little changes till 2 months but after this period remarkable quality degradation were found in total nitrogen, total amino acids, tannin, caffeine, chlorophyll and fatty acids. The color changes of gieeness were -16.43 in one month and -10.11 in five months, respectively. Alumininum packing in vacuum was showed extention of storage period above one month.

Properties of Korean Traditional Pepper Pickle Made by Different Preheating Temperature Treatments (전처리 온도를 달리하여 제조한 고추장아찌의 품질 특성)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of preheating temperature on the properties of the Korean traditional pepper pickle. In experimental groups, the pepper was heated in the warm water at 40, 60, 80$^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes while the control group was not heated. The contents of chlorophyll and vitamin C in treated pepper were evaluated. The contents of chlorophyll were 30.96$\∼$31.13 mg$\%$ at the initial stage of 0 day and 0.76$\∼$2.34 mg$\%$ for 60 days of storage. The vitamin C contents were increased until storage 6 days and then were decreased. Pickles treated at 60$^{\circ}C$ showed the highest score on hardness after 60 days of storage followed by 40$^{\circ}C$>no-heat treatment (NH)>80$^{\circ}C$. The yellowness on the surface of brined pepper peels was increased with preheating temperature increased. Activities of pectinesterase were the highest at 60$^{\circ}C$ followed by 40$^{\circ}C$>80$^{\circ}C$>NH treated. Activities of polygalacturonase were lower than that of NH group.

Effect of Gamma Irradiation on the Quality of Cooked Spinach During Storage (방사선조사가 시금치 나물의 저장성 연장에 미치는 효과)

  • This study investigated the effects of gamma irradiation on microbial, physical, and sensory qualities as well as the antioxidant activity of cooked spinach. At 3 kGy of gamma irradiation, microbial growth was inhibited until 4 weeks and 5 days at storage temperatures of 4 and $25^{\circ}C$, respectively. The dose of 2 kGy did not significantly affect hardness; however, Hunter color system values for lightness, redness, and yellowness were changed. Low dose gamma-irradiation (up to 2 kGy) did not significantly affect the antioxidant activity of the cooked spinach. Also, based on a triangle sensory test, the gamma-irradiated cooked spinach was not significantly different from the control. These results, suggest that applying gamma irradiation to cooked vegetables at doses lower than 2 kGy can be recommended to extend shelf-life and maintain quality.
