This study aims to help the creative idea of nail art design and the expansion of artistic realm by presenting nail art applied with dot, line, and plane, which are the basic elements of the sculpture that make up the space for visual expression of nail art. The research method considered the concepts and characteristics of the molding elements through professional books, prior research, and Internet website. Along with various expression techniques, the characteristics of dot, line, and plane were applied to nail art and expressed as visual messages, and a total of six works were produced according to each characteristic. This research aims to find a new perspective on nail art expression by reinterpreting the characteristics of dot, line, and plane, which are formative elements, in an artistic approach, and to contribute to enhancing the infinite possibilities of nail art design by utilizing them.

This study is to understand psychedelic art works and identify their characteristics in order to present a convergent nail art design and find new directions for design ideas. For these purposes, the concepts of psychedelic art and nail art, and expressive techniques were analysed based on results of Internet surfing, previous studies and technical books. For nail art design works with the characteristics of psychedelic art as motivation, hand painting, marble and nail patch techniques were merged to create a total of four design pieces. This study merged psychedelic art with modern sense to reorganize it into a unique design. It is hoped that the designs will be helpful in the development of future nail art designs. Also it is expected that it can become a new cultural trend which can express diverse design works with infinite possibilities in nail art and artistic creativity.

Entering the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, as humans pursue beauty with a differentiated lifestyle and the quality of life improves, nail art is in the spotlight as another art field as part of beauty and jewelry art. In addition, as the rapidly growing and digitalized decorative beauty nail industry has become a major industry in the world, it is expressed as a formative beauty art that requires creative and original decorative expression. Customers who visit nail shops need creative and unique designs, but at present nail artists remain at the level of design imitation, new nail art designs should be developed to satisfy customers. Therefore, this study presented convergent nail art designs using formative art principles which are the basis of all design with the aim of contributing to creative nail art designs. For this purpose, this study investigated specialized books, Internet data and previous studies on the subject, analysed concepts and cases of formative art principles, and the concept of nail art and related expressive techniques to create six convergent nail art designs. As nail art techniques, this study used hand painting, marbling, see-through, etching, embossing, patching and objet. As a result, this study presented unique and creative nail art designs using formative art principles and found the possibility of creating new nail art designs. This study has meaning in that the results of this study are significant as basic data to enhance the design capabilities of nail artists.

This study suggests method of expression of nail art utilizing Salvador Dali's Paranoiac Critical Method and produced the actual works based on discussions on Salvador Dali's painting, Paranoiac Critical Method, Nail Art's artistry and technique of expression. The result of the study is as follows: 1) Characteristic of Dali's painting is a Paranoiac Critical Method. If suggesting this characteristic in a method of expression of nail art, a good work which can be expressed on a small space, a nail, representing Dali is selected and 5 tips which are very similar to the rate of the painting are used in order to obtain an aesthetic effect just like a painting. And after composing on tips using the whole paining or part of painting, actual techniques of expression such as Hand Painting, Protranse or Water Decal are used. 2) the result of nail art produced utilizing Dali's Paranoiac Critical Method is as follows. Most of all, for nail art I with the topic of "The Persistence of Memory" (1931), after giving changes to 5 tips for the watch which is a part of the painting, Hand Painting technique is used using Acrylic Painting with colors which are similar colors to the painting. Then for nail art II which adopted "Slave Market with Invisible Bust of Voltaire" (1940), the whole painting is divided into 5 tips and Protranse technique which attaches printed paper onto nails was used. Lastly, for nail art III with the subject of "The Enigma of Desire My Mother, My Mother, My Mother" (1929), Water Decal which is emphasizing the parts of the painting and composing on 5 tips and copying printed picture onto Water Transfer Paper in order to attach on the nails is used. These nail arts show aesthetic characteristics such as fantasy, unconsciousness, grotesque, infinity, non-realism and horror just like paintings.

The aim of this study is to contribute to the idea of creative design by presenting nail art designs in which neo pop art converges with nail art techniques. For this purpose, this study analysed the artistic worlds of Jean Michel Basquiat and Takashi Murakami as representative artists of neo pop art and used examples of their art as motivation based on Internet data and relevant books. Also this study analysed the concept and expressive techniques used in nail art, and for the nail art techniques of: hand painting, see-through, etching, nail patches, 3D, and airbrushing in order to create six nail art designs using artistic works by three artists as motivation. Based on this, this study presented creative and unique nail designs with artistic works by neo pop artists as motivation. It is hoped that this study will contribute to further use of characteristic and diverse nail designs and is helpful in promoting the capability of nail artists and activate the nail art scene. It is expected that research on nail art design will be expanded and developed through convergence with diverse design areas in the future.
