  • This is a study for the improvement of the defected elevator spar in operating aircraft. The elevator spar web holes were analyzed to find out the cause of the cracks. The fatigue striations were observed and the cracks occurred by the repetitive stresses during the elevator works. Also the outboard connection structure of the elevator and horizontal stabilizer was more weak shape than the inboard. The design changes were recommended and the analyses were performed to verify the improvement of the changed shapes.

  • Cymopterus melanotilingia (Apiaceae) was reviewed by external morphology and cross-section of leaf-margin and mericarp, and the taxonomic position of species and genus was reexamined. Based on these results, the description and adistribution map of C. melanotiligia were obtained. The leaf-margin forms a collenchymatous ridge by projecting toward the lower part. One mericarp has 2-lateral ribs and 2-intermediate ribs and the other mericarp has 2-lateral ribs and 1-dorsal rib, suggesting each of them is asymmetric. These characters show that this species does not belong to the genus Ostericum s.s., but should be treated as the genus Cymopterus.

  • Nonlinear aeroelastic characteristics of a two dimensional typical section model with bilinear plunge spring are investigated. Doublet-point method(DPM) is used for the calculation of supersonic unsteady aerodynamic forces which are approximated by using the minimum-state approximation. For nonlinear flutter analysis structural nonlinearity is represented by an asymmetric bilinear spring and is linearized by using the describing function method. The linear and nonlinear flutter analyses indicate that the flutter characteristics are significantly dependent on the frequency ratio. From the nonlinear flutter analysis, various types of limit cycle oscillations are observed in a wide range of air speeds below or above the linear flutter boundary. The nonlinear flutter characteristics and the nonlinear aeroelastic responses are investigated.

  • In this study, we performed three-dimensional CFD analysis to investigate the effect of the rotor blade sweep of a partial admission supersonic turbine on the stage performance and the flow field. The computations are conducted for three different sweep cases, No sweep(NSW), Backward sweep(BSW), and Forward sweep(FSW), using flow analysis program, FLUENT 6.3 Parallel. The results of the BSW model show reduced mass flow rates of tip leakage and increased total-to-static efficiency. The strength of leading edge bow shock was decreased a little with BSW model. And the BSW model also shows a good performance around the hub region compared to other models.

  • Recently, carbon fiber-reinforced composite is widely used in many aerospace applications. Among most of the aerospace vehicles, human-powered aircraft essentially uses it for minimizing the weight of the vehicle and gaining high stiffness to increase its efficiency. In this paper, main wing spar of the human-powered aircraft is investigated. Finite element models were created based on the baseline model built in 2013 to make analysis of cross-section of the spar with varying ply angles of each layer of the spar. Objective function, which is affected from bending rigidity, torsional rigidity, and strength ratio, was evaluated for every cases. The model of 2013 and present cases were put into comparison by values evaluated from objective function. From the comparison, it was concluded that there are more chances to improve the baseline model to make the vehicle better in stiffness and weight than the model of 2013.

  • This paper examined the goblin characters in Japan animation. The meaning of the goblin in this paper is not a just monster. They have a spirit. This concept is based on animism in japanese mind. I attempted a chase of goblin character's making methods. My theoretical approaches lean on the concepts "inter-textuality" of Julia Kristeva and "text" of Roland Barthes. First of all, I compared some beings of the old chinese myth-geographical book with some characters of Japan animation . The making method of goblin characters is two. One is 'Hybrid', the other is 'Mutant'. And than I appled to Japanese traditional image, "Baek-kuy-ya-hang-do"(hundreds of goblins' parade). The making method of goblins is combined to a inter-textual way as hybrid or mutant.

  • Some wingless species have evolved take-off behaviors that enable them to become airborne. We examined aerodynamic attributes of dispersal relative to the body size and standing vs. walking postures for three phytoseiids that were suspected to have different take-off behaviors and dispersal abilities, Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot, Neoseiulus fallacis (Carman) and N. californicus (McGregor). The average vertical profile of Pp in the walking position was significantly higher than those of Nf and Nc when in walking position. The body height of Nf in the standing posture was significantly greater than the body height of Pp when in the walking position. Cross-section areas also showed similar patterns of difference. Nf in the standing posture would have more than twice the drag force than in walking posture because of more fluid momentum in the wind boundary layer However, Pp in the walking position would have similar drag to Nf in the standing posture because of a higher vertical profile and larger size. Thus we add the scientific evidence of presence and absence of take-off behavior of some phytoseiid mites and evolutionary aspects of aerial dispersal are further discussed.

  • Fiber-reinforced composites not only have a direction of thermal expansion coefficient, but also inevitably suffer thermal stress effects due to the difference between the manufacturing process temperature and the actual use temperature. The damage caused by thermal stress is more prominent in the case of thick composite laminates, which are increasingly applied in the aerospace industry, and have a great influence on the mechanical function and fracture strength of the laminates. In this study, the dimensional reduction and thermal stress recovery theory of composite beam structure having high slenderness ratio is introduced and show the efficiency and accuracy of the thermal stress comparison results between the 3-D finite element model and the dimension reduction beam model. Efficient recovery analysis study will be introduced by reconstructing the thermal stress of the composite beam section applied to the thermal environment by constructing the dimensional reduction modeling and recovery relations.

  • The Kyemyeongsan area of Chungju in the NE part of the Ogcheon metamorphic zone, Koera, consists mainly of the Ogcheon Supergroup(Taehyangsan Quartzite, Hyangsanri Dolomite and Kyemyeogsan Formation) and the MeSozoic Chungju granite. The Kyemyeongsan Formation is composed mainly of metamorphic rocks of various grades derived from conglomeratic, basic, acidic, pelitic and psammitic rocks. The basic and acidic rocks show alternated or interfingered appearence, indicating that they were derived form bimodal type of magmatism in rift environment. Conglomeratic rocks overlie acidic volcanic rocks in geneal, but are underlain by both acidic plutonic and volcanic rocks. This indicaties that the acidic magmatism before the formation of conglomeratic rocks was different from that during or after the formation of conglomeratic rocks in its occurrence mode. The geological structure of the Ogcheon metamorphic zone in the Kyemyeongsan area, Chungju was formed at least by three phases of deormation. The first phase deformation(D1) formed a regional-scale sheath-type fold(F1) closed into the east. Its axial phane(S1) strikes NNW to NW and dips WSW to SW. The stetching lineation(L1), related to the sheath-type fold, plunges westward. The second phase deformation (D2) formed asymmetric fold(F2) of ESE-to SE-vergence with NNE to NE striking axial plane(S2) and $20~45^{\circ}/210~230^{\circ}$ plunging axis(L2). The F2 fold reoriented the original westward plunging L1 into northwestward plunging L1 in its lower limb(overturned limb). The third phase of deformation(D3) was recognized as chevron-type fold(F3) with $45^{\circ}/265$^{\circ}$ plunging axis. The F3 fold was formed by the compression of N-S direction, resulting in the reorientation of the original $20-45^{\circ}/210~230^{\circ}$ plunging L2 into mainly $35~45^{\circ}/260~280^{\circ}$ and subsidiarily $30~45^{\circ}/135~165^{\circ}$ plunging L2. After this deformation, open fold with NS striking and steeply E or W dipping axial plane is formed by the compression of E-W direction.
