A primary benefit of flight at high angle-of-attack conditions is to be able to reduce the speed of flight and maneuvers, which can enhance the capability of sensing and obstacle avoidance for a small UAV. The flight at high angle-of-attack conditions, however, is easy to be beyond stall which is characterized by substantial flow separation over an airfoil. Current numerical analysis was conducted on the capabilities of three representative turbulence models to predict the aerodynamic characteristics of a typical airfoil at angle-of-attack conditions. The investigation shows that these turbulence models provide good comparison with experimental data for attached flow at moderate angle-of-attack conditions. Calculation by current turbulence models are, however, not appropriate at high angle-of-attack conditions with flow separation.
An numerical analysis of sediment-laden flow is carried out, and results are compared with the experiments of Coleman(1981, 1986) that included the several cases varying sediment size and quantity in open channel flow. K-$\omega$ turbulence model is selected for the fully turbulent flow field, and the concentration equation considering the fall velocity is adopted for the concentration field. The model of Einstein and Chien(1955) is applied to couple the velocity field and the concentration field. Most of researches have been carried out without considering the bed-load thickness, but it is found that the bed-load thickness cannot be ignored in case of a large amount of sediment or a large size of it. The bed-load thickness and surface roughness are considered in this study. Here, $\beta$ value, which is defined by the reciprocal of turbulent Schmidt number and is related with the concentration profile, is found to be varied according to the sediment size and quantity. Even though most of researchers have insisted that $\beta$ had always larger than 1.0, it may be concluded that $\beta$ can have smaller value than 1.0, that is coincident with the report of recent research.
The present experimental and numerical investigations are performed on the characteristics of transitional flow in a concentric annulus with a diameter ratio of 0.52, whose outer cylinder is stationary and inner one rotating. The pressure losses and skin-friction coefficients have been measured for the fully devel-oped flow of water and that of 0.2% CMC-water solution at a inner cylinder rotational speed of 0∼600 rpm, respectively. The transitional flow has been examined by the measurement of pressure losses to reveal the relation of the Reynolds and Rossby numbers with the skin-friction coefficients. The occurrence of transition has been checked by the gradient changes of pressure losses and skin-friction coefficients with respect to the Reynolds numbers. The increasing rate of skin-friction coefficient due to the rotation is uniform for laminar flow regime, whereas it is suddenly reduced for transitional flow regime and, then, it is gradually decreased for turbulent flow regime.
The present paper describes the flow analysis of the flows around the multicopter for the selection of optimal position of air data sensor. For the flow analysis, the commercial fluid dynamics solver, STAR-CCM+ was used with polygon mesh and k-w SST turbulence modeling options. For the simulation of each rotating 4 propellers, unstructured overset mesh method was used. Hovering, forward flight, ascending and descending flight conditions are selected for the analysis and airspeed and flow angle errors were investigated using the CFD results. Through the flow field analysis, sensor location above one propeller diameter distance from the propeller rotating plane showed airspeed error less than 1m/s within the typical flight conditions of multicopter except descending.
Recently, a lot of studies have been made about the methods used to generate turbulent velocity fields stochastically in order to effectively predict broadband flow noise. Among them, the FRPM (Fast Random Particle Mesh) method which generates turbulence with specific statistical properties using turbulence kinetic energy and dissipation obtained from the steady solution of the RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) equations has been successfully applied. However, the FRPM method cannot be applied to the flow noise problems involving intrinsic unsteady characteristics such as centrifugal fan. In this paper, to effectively predict the broadband noise generated by centrifugal fan, U-FRPM (unsteady FRPM) method is developed by extending the FRPM method to be combined with the unsteady numerical solutions of the unsteady RANS equations to generate the turbulence considered as broadband noise sources. Firstly, an unsteady flow field is obtained from the unsteady RANS equations through CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). Then, noise sources are generated using the U-FRPM method combined with acoustic analogy. Finally, the linear propagation model which is realized through BEM (Boundary Element Method) is combined with the generated sources to predict broadband noise at the listeners' position. The proposed technique is validated to compare its prediction result with the measured data.
A comparative study on the turbulent flaw simulation and the potential flaw analysis has been performed. A law Mach number preconditioned Navier-Stokes solver, using the multi-block grid method and a panel method based on the velocity potential, have been developed and validated by comparison to the experimental data. The present numerical analysis methods are applied to the ground effect problem around the NACA 4412 airfoil. It has been confirmed that the potential flaw analysis on the ground effect, using the image method, is consistent, to some degree, with the viscous calculations for high Reynolds number flows.

The effectiveness of passive control techniques for reducing the pressure oscillation generated in a supersonic cavity flow was investigated numerically and experimentally, respectively. The control device includes a sub-cavity installed in the upstream edge of a rectangular cavity. Time-dependent supersonic cavity flow characteristics with turbulent features were examined by using the three-dimensional, mass-averaged Navier-Stokes computation based on a finite volume scheme and large eddy simulation. The results show that the pressure oscillation near the trailing edge dominates overall time-dependent cavity pressure variations. Such an oscillation can be attenuated more significantly in the presence of the sub-cavity compared with the cavity without sub-cavity, and a larger sub-cavity leads to better control performance.

A thermo-fluid dynamic analysis was performed through the numerical simulation of a missile canister. Calculation was made in a fixed analytical volume and fully evaporated water was used as a coolant. To analyze the interaction among the hot gas, coolant, and mixture flow, Realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence and VOF(Volume Of Fluid) model were chosen and parametric study was performed with the change of coolant flow rate. It could be found that the pressure on the canister top nonlinearly increased with the increase of coolant flow rate. Temperature and coolant distribution were closely related to the flow behavior in canister. Temperature on the canister bottom indicated a decrease being proportional to coolant flow rate in early times but after a specific time, the temperature increased with the tendency being reversed. In addition, the early part of temperature showed a fluctuating phenomenon because of the overall circulatory flow of mixture gas.
The characteristics of turbulent flow and mixing in a small can type combustor are investigated by means of Large Eddy Simulation (LES). Attention is paid for a combustor having a baffle plate with oxidant injection and fuel injection holes and study is made for three cases of different baffle plate configurations. From the result, it is confirmed that mixing is promoted by interaction between the jets during their developing process and large vortical flows generated in the vicinity of the combustor wall or fuel jet front. This particular flow feature is effective to accelerate the slow mixing between fuel and oxidant suffering from low Reynolds number condition in such a small combustor. In particular, the vortical flow region ahead of fuel jet plays an important role for rapid mixing. Discussion is made for the time and space averaged turbulent flow and scalar quantities which show peculiar characteristics corresponding to different vortical flow structures for each baffle plate shapes.

This paper addresses influence on the flow field by varying the length of DPF Inlet pipe in 5 ways. Numerical analysis is carried out by using PIV and commercial code and as a result, PIV and commercial code shows correlation correspond to 87%. Furthermore, in the same velocity condition, as stable and high pressure value is shown when the Inlet pipe length is 20mm, particulate filtering rate can be increased.
