  • This study aimed to understand the differences in general characteristics, principal diagnosis, injury-related characteristics, and types of transportation accidents between young-old and old-old patients who were hospitalized owing to injury based on data from the Korean National Hospital Discharge In-Depth Injury Surveys. We used a complex sample cross tabulation analysis (chi-square test) and complex sample generalized linear model (t-test). Therefore, the primary focus of healthcare professionals working with the old-old should prevent falls in the home and increase the available medical care, financial aid plans, and psychosocial support for aging. Additionally education on traffic accident prevention and road safety is particularly important for old-old patients.

  • Accidents of worker that occur in isolated places are difficult to rescue, unlike general construction accidents. There is a problem of communication limitation when an accident occurs in an isolated place. Also, it is difficult to search the accident place due to the absence of CCTV. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposes a device that combines IoT technology with a safety helmet, which must be worn in the workplace. The proposed device additionally designs and implements a real-time PPG(Photoplethysmography) sensor, body temperature sensor, accelerometer sensor and a camera sensor on the helmet. The proposed helmet system allows the user and the control center to monitor the state of the worker. In addition, when an abnormal biological signal or fall occurs to the worker, the image is transmitted to the control center. By using the proposed system, it is possible to check the status of the worker in real time, so that it has an advantage that it can cope with the accident quickly.

  • Purpose: This study aims to identify the effect of pediatric fall prevention education with leaflets and picture books on the fall-related knowledge and preventive behaviors in caregivers of inpatient children. Methods: This study is a non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design. It divided 62 caregivers of inpatient children aged 5 and under into an experimental group and a control group in P general hospital located in B City. Results: Fall related knowledge score in the experimental group was increased by 2 points after the intervention and the score in the comparison group was increased by 0.1 points. The difference after the intervention in fall related knowledge scores between the two groups was statistically significant (t=7.67, p<.001). The fall related prevention behavior score of the experimental group increased by 9.3 points after the intervention, and the score of the comparison group increased by 2.5 points. The difference in the scores of fall related prevention behaviors between the two groups was statistically significant (t=5.71, p<.001). Conclusion: Pediatric inpatient fall prevention education using leaflets and picture books can improve caregivers' fall-related knowledge and preventive behaviors. In turn, this can reduce children's falls in pediatric wards in general hospitals.

  • As we are turnning into the aged society, accidents by falling down are increasing in the aged people's group. In this paper, we design the system with the 3-Axis acceleration sensor which is composed by a single chip. The body activity signal is measured with the signal detector and RF communicator in this proposed system and the and falling by the entering signal pattern analysis with 3-Axis acceleration sensor. For the RF communication, we are using nRF24L01p and 8bits ATmega uC for the processor. The error of energy expenditure estimation between motor driven treadmill and proposed a body activity module was 7.8% respectively. Human activities and falling is monitored according to analyze and judge the critical value of the Signal Vector. as falled down if they don't turn off the alarm after specific period and the aged person's after falling down activities are their position and more.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify nurses' experience of falls by inpatients. Methods: From December 30, 2015 to February 22, 2016 data were collected through in-depth individual interviews and analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological method. Participants were 11 clinical nurses and 2 head nurses. Results: Nurses' experience related to inpatients' falls were categorized as follows: 'emotional impact after falls', 'responsibility for falls', 'changes after experience of falls', 'burden of reporting falls', 'difficulty in preventing falls', 'seeking new strategies for fall prevention' Conclusion: The findings from this study suggest that there is a need to develop programs to help nurses overcome the emotional impact of falls. Also education should be provided to patients, caregivers and health providers in order to prevent falls and improve patient safety.

  • This paper presents an implementation of detecting whether a helmet is worn and there is a fall accident through individual image analysis in real-time from extracting the image objects of several workers active in the industrial field. In order to detect image objects of workers, YOLO, a deep learning-based computer vision model, was used, and for whether a helmet is worn or not, the extracted images with 5,000 different helmet learning data images were applied. For whether a fall accident occurred, the position of the head was checked using the Pose real-time body tracking algorithm of Mediapipe, and the movement speed was calculated to determine whether the person fell. In addition, to give reliability to the result of a falling accident, a method to infer the posture of an object by obtaining the size of YOLO's bounding box was proposed and implemented. Finally, Telegram API Bot and Firebase DB server were implemented for notification service to administrators.

  • Both cardiovascular diseases caused by decreased body composition and arterial compliance and falling induced by loss of muscle mass are frequent occurrences in the elderly. Therefore, elderly people are advised to perform elastic band resistance exercises to improve their body composition and arterial compliance. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine the effects of 12 weeks of elastic band resistance training on the body composition, arterial compliance and falling index in elderly females (> 65 years). The elastic band resistance exercise program was administered 3 times per week for 60 minutes each time for 12 weeks. In addition, the exercise intensity was set to 11-14 on the Borg scale (6-20). Before and after the training period, the body composition (body weight (BW), muscle mass, % body fat, body mass index (BMI)), arterial compliance (ankle brachial index (ABI) and pulse wave velocity (PWV)) and risk of falling index were determined. (After the program?), the BW (p=.003), BMI (p=.002), PWV (p=.017) and risk of falling (p=.037) in the exercise group were significantly reduced, whereas the BW (p=.009) and BMI (p=.009) in the control group were significantly increased. In conclusion, the body weight, BMI and arterial compliance of elderly females were positively changed by the elastic band resistance training. Thus, the elastic band resistance exercise may be useful for elderly people to prevent metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases and to reduce their risk of falling.
