The dynamic behavior of elastic columns under the action of the subtangential force is studied in this paper. The subtangential force is the combination of the tip mass dead load and pure follower thrust. In this study, the tip mass is assumed to be a rigid body rather than a point mass. The equations of motion are derived based on the extended Hamilton's principle and the finite element method. Then the equations of motion are trasformed into a dimensionless form, and several parameters are identified. It is found that the critical subtangential force can be changed subtangentially by considering the parameters related to tip mass. It is also shown that the nonconservativeness of the applied force has a significant effect on the type of instability. The influence of the self-weight of the column on the variation of the critical force is also investigated.
Gear pump has a simple structure high reliability, easy operation and maintenance, widely used as a source of hydraulic system of hydraulic. In general, the gear pump was designed using variety of variables, the variables through the analysis of the mass flow rate and efficiency. In this paper, three-dimensional flow of the gear pump, in order to produce the optimal design of product, analysis was performed by using commercial software ANSYS v15.0 CFX. And then, combination of design parameters selected by ANSYS was carried out to confirm the simulation result. The efficiency and mass flow rate of the gear pump were studied by varying its rotational speed and the clearance between the gear tip and the housing. In the simulation results, as the rotational speed were increased, the average mass flow rate and efficiency increased. Furthermore, as the clearance between the gear tip and the housing was increased, the average mass flow rate and efficiency decreased.

Investigation is performed on the stability of nonlinear system under turbulent fluid motion modelled as white noise random process, which is a preliminary result in the course of research on the characteristic and nonlinear control of the stochastic system. Adopted physical model is beam-type structure with tip-mass and main base mass. The governing equation is derived via F-P-K approach in stochastic sense. By means of Gaussian Closure method infinite dynamic moment equations due to system nonlinearity is closed to finite one. At the best of authors' knowledge, it is the first trial to design nonlinear controller by using of sliding mode technique in stochastic domain and control performance and effect in stochastic domain is studied.

This study proposes a piezoelectric vibration energy harvester composed of two diagonally segmented energy harvesting units. An auxiliary structural unit is attached to the tip of a host structural unit cantilevered to a vibrating base, where the two components have beam axes in opposite directions from each other and matched short-circuit resonant frequencies. Contrary to the usual observations in two resonant frequency-matched structures, the proposed structure shows little eigenfrequency separation and yields a mode sequence change between the first two modes. These lead to maximum power generation around a specific frequency. By using commercial finite element software, it is shown that the magnitude of the output power from the proposed vibration energy harvester can be substantially improved in comparison with those from conventional cantilevered energy harvesters with the same footprint area and magnitude of a tip mass.
In this study, as part of the development of an autonomous flying personal aircraft, an equivalent model of the main wing assembly of an Optionally Piloted Personal Air Vehicle (OPPAV) was developed. Reliability of the developed equivalent model was verified by eigenvalue analysis. The main wing assembly consisted of a main wing, an inboard pod, and an outboard pod. First, for developing an equivalent model of each component, components to produce the equivalent model were divided into several sections. Nodes were then created on the axis of the equivalent model at both ends of each section. In addition, static analysis with unit force and unit moment was performed to calculate the deformation or the amount of rotation at the node to be used in the equivalent model. Equivalent axial, bending, and torsional stiffness of each section were calculated by applying the beam theory. Once the equivalent stiffness of each section was calculated, information of a mass and moment of inertia for each section was entered by creating a lumped mass in the center of each section. An equivalent model was developed using beam element. Finally, the reliability of the developed equivalent model was verified by comparison with results of mode analysis of the fine model.

Experimental studies on the adaptive multi-mode vibration control of composite beams have been performed using neuro-controller. Neuro-controllers require too much computational burden, which blocks wide real-time applications of neuro-controllers. Therefore, in this paper, an adaptive notch filter is proposed to separate a vibration signal into each modal vibration signal. Two neuro-controllers with fewer weights are connected to the corresponding modal signals to generate proper modal control forces. The vibration controls using the adaptive notch filter and neuro-controllers have been performed for two specimens. A and B, which have different natural frequencies because of different positions of tip masses. Significant vibration reduction has been observed in both cases. The vibration control results show that the present neuro-controller has good adaptiveness under the system parameter variations.
This study is on a seismic analysis of absorber rod in KMRR Reactivity Control Mechanism. The model being studied is two coaxial tubes(control absorber rod and flow tube) immersed in the water and partially coupled(overlap) by water gap. The hydrodynamic mass effects by the water in each surrounding conditions are considered in the model. The natural frequencies, stresses and displacements of the system due to Safe Shutdown Earthquake are computed in the cases of in-phase modes and out-of-phase modes of two coaxial tubes. The results show that maximum stresses are well below the allowable limit but the maximum displacements at the ends of both tubes are so much that the absorber rod contacts with the flow tube(or surrounding wall).

We consider the simultaneous slewing and vibration suppression control problem of an idealized structural model which has a rigid hub with two cantilevered flexible appendages and finite tip masses. The finite clement method(FEM) is used to obtain linear finite dimensional equations of motion for the model. In the linear quadratic regulator(LQR) problem, a simple method is introduced to provide a physically meaningful performance index for space structure models. This method gives us a mathematically minor but physically important modification of the usual energy type performance index. A numerical procedure to solve a time-variant LQR problem with inequality control constraints is presented using the method of particular solutions.

Based on the structural analysis of cantilever and the piezoelectric effect, we propose a new design of piezoelectric cantilever to harvest maximum vibration energy. Geometric parameters of piezoelectric cantilever are optimized according to two different types of cantilever structure. The main factors that affect the harvesting performance of the cantilever was the shape of the cantilever and the load at the free end. The amount of charge is affected by piezoelectric constant and mechanical strain of the cantilever.

A cantilever beam with a mass and a spring at the end can be use to model a miniature flexible arm. It is necessary to know the natural frequencies and mode shapes to discuss its free vibration, especially when modal analysis is employed. A beam is clamped-free. In this paper we look at the lateral vibration of beams that have step changes in the properties of their cross sections. The frequency equation is derived by Bernoulli-Euler formulation and is sloved by the separation of variable. The parameters of the beam, 'mass and spring stiffness' are defined as nondimensionalized parameters for wide application of the results. According to the change of eigenvalues and mode shape are presented for this beam. The results presented are the eigenvalues and the natural frequencies for the first three modes of vibration. Results show that the parameters have a significant effect on the natural frequency.
