  • Small hydro power, among other renewable energy resources, has been evaluated to have enough development value because it is a clean, renewable and abundant energy resource. In addition, small hydro power has the advantage of low cost development by using existing facilities like sewage treatment plants, water works and similar resources. But in the case of small hydro power systems, there are problems with degraded operation efficiency of turbine due to changes in flow rates. In order to overcome this, variable speed control can be achieved by using the power rectifier and permanent magnetic synchronous generator(PMSG) as a possible method to respond to the changes in flow rates. In this study, a commercial ANSYS CFD code was used to analyze the performance of 10kW class propeller hydro turbine and to also investigate flow characteristics at variable flow rates and runner vane.

  • The present study has been carried out to develop a computational procedure for the analysis of the off-design performance in centrifugal compressors with vaneless diffusers by integrating empirical loss models and analytical equations. Losses in centrifugal compressors stem from a number of sources and their exact calculation is not yet possible. This study investigates several modeling schemes and shows that a fairly good prediction can be achieved by a proper selection of the most important flow parameters resulting form a meanline one-dimensional analysis. The performance maps for compressors are calculated and compared with measured performance maps. The off-design performance characteristics in terms of the pressure ratio vs. mass flow produced have generally correct forms. However, no universal means have been found to predict accurately the onset of surge. The prediction method developed through this study can serve as a tool to ensure good matching between parts and it can assist the understanding of the operational characteristics of general purpose centrifugal compressors.

  • Design analysis and grow1d test on propellers for 50 m-long airship propulsion were conducted. The design analysis code developed by adopting the vortex-blade-element theory was applied to the design of optimum propeller at the condition of maximum flight speed at sea level. In order to validate the performance of the propeller, ground test of the propeller was performed, and thrust and torque were measured for several different pitch angles at static condition. The power coefficients and thrust coefficients obtained by the test compared well with the analysis results.

  • Numerical analysis has been performed to investigate the rotor speed and pitch range variations when the airspeed is increased in autorotation. Transient Simulation Method(TSM) was used to obtain the steady states of autorotation. The rotor blade was analyzed by the two-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes solver in order to adapt to the airspeed increase and the results were used in the transient simulation method. Meanwhile, the Pitt/Peters inflow theory was used to supply the induced velocity fields. For the prescribed torque equilibrium state, the combinations of velocity, shaft angle, and pitch angle were produced to investigate the rotor speeds and variable ranges. The rotor tip Mach number and rotor speed were correlated and the trim range of pitch angle was observed with respect to the shaft angle decrease.

  • The flapping characteristics and advance ratios at torque equilibrium state of autorotation were investigated when the airspeed, shaft angle, and pitch angle were varied. To simulate the airspeed increase, the aerodynamic data analyzed by using the compressible Navier-Stokes solver and Pitt/Peters inflow theory were used. Transient Simulation Method(TSM) was used to catch the torque equilibrium states. The maximum flapping angles at torque equilibrium state were correlated to the airspeed, shaft angle, and pitch angle. By comparing flapping behavior to the variation of advance ratio, the phenomenon that the extension of reverse flow area of retreating blade affects the characteristics of autorotation was qualitatively considered.

  • A surface piercing propeller (SPP) in tunnel has been proposed recently as a new propulsion system for a high speed air cavity ship. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the characteristics of the SPP in tunnel through a series of model tests. A model propulsion system is placed on a dummy body made of Acrylics. The tunnel is divided into two regions by a guide vane extending from the inlet to the center of the propeller shaft. Air has been supplied from an air nozzle placed at the bottom of the dummy body and the changes in propeller performances caused by the air flow are investigated. The measurements are done for open water and in-tunnel conditions, both for fully and partially submerged propeller. The influence of the guide vane configurations on the propeller performance is also studied. The experiments are performed at the variable pressure circulation water channel of Inha University.

  • The performance of in-line duct fan depends on the design parameters of impeller and guide vane such as sweep back angle of impeller hub, guide vane angle etc. In this study four kinds of impellers having different sweep back angles, $0^{\circ}$, $17.5^{\circ}$, $35^{\circ}$, $52.5^{\circ}$ with 8 guide vanes, and different guide vane angles, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ were selected and their performance measured to investigate the effects of design parameters. The results show that both sweep back angle of impeller hub and the guide vane angle have large effect on the efficiency. Especially, it was found that the mixed flow impellers having sweep back angle between $17.5^{\circ}$ and $35^{\circ}$ gave good performances for in-line duct fan.

  • In the cavitation tunnel, the first corner playes role for the flow direction to execute 90-degree turn. So, energy loss is serious, and the cavitation phenomena well occur in the guide vane surface. In this paper, the flow in the first corner was numerically calculated. From the calculation result, cavitation phenomena mainly occurred in the suction side of the last guide vane and vicinity that vane and tunnel wall adjoin each other. And bubbles occurred from all guide vanes if the flow velocity in the test section reaches the any critical value. We could analogize with our experience in the water tunnel that bubbles that occurred in time not vanish, and become miniature in the flow although the pressure recover. So, they circulate with flow in the tunnel, and come into view in the test section. Therefore, first corner must be designed for bubbles not to appear in the test section according to the flow condition like velocity and pressure demanded by the experiment. We analyzed flow in case that the first elbow configuration was redesigned and some of the existing guides vanes were eliminated. And we presented that first elbow can be easely designed for the improvement of tunnel performance through the computational analysis.

  • This study is based on the observation of women's Jangui in 17th centuries. As we observed, Jangui in seventeenth century was shown the same style. They were not headdress but coat. The characteristics of shape are Mokpankit, double-seop, straight sleeve, triangle moo, sam-su(which is attached to the end of sleeves) and a little coat string etc. There is no specific mode difference with the change of times. However, the straight sleeve is shown straight line in the early Chosun dynasty. Jangui in seventeen century are all oblique line sleeve except Jangui of Jin-ju Ha's family. Jangui put on coat do not seem clear-cut difference with the change of times. From Jangui of Yang-chun Hu's family in 14th centuries till An-dong Kim's family, the special features of Jangui are the same style. In addition, The double-seop in 17th centuries was not completely symmetry. However, after 19th centuries, Jangui for headdress was shown perfectly symmetry.

  • In this paper, various shapes of collar of the casual Korean dress at present are analyzed and are also surveyed the origins from which such designs are derived. Collars of the casual Korean dress are to be classified into Round-collar, Mokpan-collar, Dangco-collar, Knife-collar, Baja-collar, Danryoung-transfer-collar, Double-collar, Transfer-collar, and so on. Round-collar, Mokpan-collar, Dangco-collar, Knife-collar, Baja-collar, Danryoung-transfer-collar, Double-collar, Transfer-collar are motivated from the classical types of collar during the dynasty of the Choxian and adopted without any modifications. However, modifications to meet modern sense with the basic motif on the classical types of collar are applied to Transfer-collar where all kinds of collar shapes since ancient times are referred for modifications. In addition, collars such as Double-collar, Hi-neck-collar, which are not found in the classical Korean dress, could be said to be created only for the casual Korean dress From the above, it could be seen that most collars of the casual Korean dress are based on the shapes of the classical Korean dress. Therefore, it could be also confirmed that the casual Korean dress design has its identity originated from the classical Korean dress since the ancient times.
