In order to know the species and frequency of human parasitic infection diagnosed by biopsy, 149 cases (0.18%) of parasitic infection were reviewed, which were selected from 80,947 biopsied materials submitted for routine histopathological examination during a period of 10 years from 1980 to 1989 at Department of Pathology, Chonnam National University Hospital. They consisted of 112 cases of cysticercosis, 17 paragonimiasis, 7 clonorchiasis, 4 amebiasis, 1 sparganosis, 1 enterobiasis, 1 anisakiasis, and 1 fascioliasis respectively Based on morphological preservation of cysticercus, they could be divided into mild (20.2%), moderate (40.4%), and severe (39.4%) degeneration. Except 2 cases biopsied at the lungs, 15 cases of ectopic paragonimiasis were located at abdominal cavity (8 cases) and central nervous system (7 cases). One case of intrahepatic fascioliasis was observed. This is the 13th human fasciollasis reported in Korea. From the above results, the frequency of parasitic infections found in biopsied specimens was on the decrease as the year passed by, but biopsy is very useful diagnostic method on tissue parasites such as cystlcercosis and ectopic paragonimiasis.
Rice (Oryza sativa) is the most important staple crop in Korea. With its small genome size of 389Mb, rice is a model plant for genome research. We analyzed expressed sequence tag (EST) clones from immature seeds of rice (cv. Ilpum) at 20 days after heading. The 25,668 EST clones were clustered by using SeqMan program and 7,509 clones were selected as unique clones. We compared the 7,509 unique genes with KOME database including the 32,127 FL-cDNA in rice. Finally, 4,990 clones were homologous and 2,519 clones non-homologous to FL-cDNA clones. In addition, we mapped the 7,509 cDNA clones by using TIGR rice pseudomolecule version 5. Ultimately, 7,347 clones were matched to be significant clones related to the TIGR rice pseudomolecules, but 162 clones were unmapped. For the clustering of orthologous group genes, we further analyzed the 7,509 EST clones from immature seeds using NCBI clusters of orthologous groups database. Among the clones, 4,968 clones were categorized into information storage and processing, cellular processes and signaling, metabolism and poorly characterized genes, proportioning 799 (14.89%), 1,536 (28.3%), 1,148 (21.2%) and 1,936 (35.7%) clones to the previous four categories, respectively.
This study was conducted to improve quality of takju where natural honey is used to control the ripening fermentation and the amount of sediment derived from takju mash. A koji was prepared using rice starch and Aspergillus awamori var. kawachii. Takju mash was prepared by alcohol fermentation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae and a 3-step addition of steamed rice. The clean part of the mash (CPM) was separated from the sediment at $5^{\circ}C$ and 5% (w/v) of natural honey was added and then ripened for 23 days at 5, 10, or $15^{\circ}C$. Temperature, pH, acidity, and total sugar content showed no significant differences, but a 0.2 percent reduction in alcohol content occurred during storage. However, CPM ripened with honey had a comparatively higher score on sensory evaluation than did immature CPM with added honey added. Takju with 8% alcohol content was prepared by mixing the water from the mixed CPM ripened with honey together with 100, 50, and 25% of the frozen sediment. Several quality characteristics of the takju were checked over 37 days of fermentation at $10^{\circ}C$. The pH was sustained between 4.1 and 4.3, and changes in the number of viable yeast cells, acidity, total sugar amounts, and alcohol content showed similar patterns but differences in scale. Smaller amounts of sediment affected the stability of the takju. Mixing the CPM ripened with natural honey at low temperature moderately reduced the amount of sediment in the mash and resulted in a highly flavorful takju with an extended shelf life.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of immersion period after tumbling on the physicochemical properties of boiled pork loin with soy sauce. After the samples were tumbled for 30 min with soy sauce (1.5% salt concentration), they were immersed for 1, 5 or 10 days. Boiled pork loin was cooked at an internal temperature to $75^{\circ}C$. Cooking yields of boiled pork loin were significantly increased with increasing immersion period. The reduction in diameter and thickness for pork loin were significantly decreased with increasing immersion period, but moisture content and water holding capacity were increased. Shear force in the immersed samples after tumbling was significantly lower than in the control. In sensory evaluation color, flavor, texture, and juiciness of boiled pork loin immersed after tumbling should higher ratings than those of control.
This study was conducted to evaluate exposure level and risk of heavy metals in livestock foodstuffs and Korean foods. Based on the "Food Intake Data," a part of the 2005 National Health & Nutrition Survey and the "2005 Seasonal Nutrition Survey", 113 Korean foods items were selected. 3 samples from different manufacturers of each 113 items of Korean foods were purchased on summer and fall, so total 678 samples were used. The food groups were classified into 15 categories. For the livestock foodstuffs category, meats and poultry (chicken, pork, pork belly, beef, beef feet soup), milks and dairy products (milk, ice cream, liquid yoghourt, sherbet), eggs (egg) were selected. It was found that the daily amount of heavy metals intake (mg/person/day) from livestock foodstuffs is 0.00020 arsenic, 0.00000 cadmium, 0.00020 lead, and 0.00006 mercury, and the daily amount of heavy metals intake (mg/person/day) from Korean foods is 0.0265 arsenic, 0.0083 cadmium, 0.0067 lead, and 0.0028 mercury. Daily amount of heavy metals intake from livestock foodstuffs was low among the food groups. For risk assessment, PDI (Probable Daily Intake) was calculated and compared with PTWI (Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intake) of JECFA (Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additive). Relative hazard of these livestock foodstuffs was 0.006% in arsenic, 0.000% in cadmium, 0.085% in lead, and 0.149% in mercury. Relative hazard of Korean foods was 0.941% in arsenic, 14.676% in cadmium, 3.319% in lead, and 6.860% in mercury. Thus, livestock foodstuffs and Korean foods were as safe as satisfied with the recommended standards of JECFA.

The domestic standards which used the standards of Road Association of Japan standards presents the distances of between jet-fans by the caliber of jet-fan. However, the Permanent International Association of Road Congress (PIARC) encourages it to be ten times a diameter of the tunnel. The distance of jet-fans installed in bases of two standards differs as much as two times, as so the proper basis after analysis of internal air current is needed since such difference can lead to disadvantage for selection of ventilation configuration. Based on Froude modeling theory, 1/40 scale acrylic model of a tunnel (215mm in diameter and 6.9m in length) and jet-fan (26.3mm and 31.6mm in caliber) was made for the measurement of changes in pressure and velocity due to the extension of tunnel for analysis of internal air current. And we measured the changes in pressure of surroundings of a jet-fan for confirmation of recirculation due to the exterior airs when the jet-fan is on. The results of the model test show that internal air current was not influenced by the caliber of jet-fan and its changes in pressure and velocity were stable in the point where it was nine times of diameter of the tunnel. Also the recirculation when the jet-fan is on could be verified. According to such results, in the cases of installing jet-fan in tunnels, the distances between jet-fans needs to be more than nine times the diameter.
The purpose of this study was to explore five-year-old popular child's behavior patterns through participant observation and to analyze the collected data with qualitative method. One popular child was selected from D child care center of P city in Kyeonggi province. Peer-nomination method was used to select the popular child. Participant observation was conducted from April to November in 2017 through 36 observations in free choice activities. As well as observation records, formal and informal interview records with parents and teachers, parent counseling journals, observation journals, and child's personal records were used to understand the popular child. Three steps, including recording, coding, and making themes, were conducted to analyze the data. The main results of the research were as follows: The behavior patterns of popular child in this study presented both positive and negative sides. The positive behavior patterns included consideration, responsibility, high concentration, and a sense of humor. The negative behavior patterns showed control and exclusion. This study has implications for development of educational program and environment to enhance positive peer relationship.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the self-expression level of dental hygiene students related to communicative competence and their stress during clinical practice and what affected their stress. The subjects in this study were 125 dental hygiene students in W college, on whom a survey was conducted from September 18 through 30, 2006. After the collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 10.0 program, the following findings were acquired: 1. When a factor analysis was made to evaluate the self-expression of the students, there appeared three different categories of self-expression: voice/content, facial expression/attitude and sentiment. The three made a 58.1% prediction of their self-expression. As for overall reliability, they turned out highly reliable(Cronbach'a = .881). 2. The dental hygiene students got a mean of 3.58 out of possible five points in self-expression, which indicated that they expressed themselves relatively well. Concerning connections between their general characteristics and self-expression level, those who were inactive during clinical practice got a mean of 3.28, whereas the others who were active got a mean of 3.85. It implied that those who took a more active attitude to clinical practice expressed themselves better(p < .01). The person with whom they found it hard to get along made a statistically significant difference to their self-expression(p < .05). The students who didn't fare well with dental hygienists got the best score(3.70). The second best group(3.53) didn't get along with dentists, followed by assistant nurses(3.46) and patients/caregivers(3.31). As for the impact of the field of dream job, the students who hoped to work or study overseas(4.21) excelled in self-expression those who wanted to be hired in a general hospital, to go onto a school of higher grade and to work in a public dental clinic(p < .05). Among the general characteristics, satisfaction level with major, health status and motivation of choosing dental hygiene made no statistically significant differences to their self-expression. 3. Regarding relations between self-expression level and stress about clinical practice, those who didn't express themselves properly in terms of sentiment scored higher in stress level(3.65). Their stress was statistically significantly different according to self-expression level (p < .05). 4. As for the influence of self-expression and general characteristics on stress with clinical practice, sentiment was selected from among the self-expression categories as a decisive factor to affect stress. Their stress varied statistically significantly with that(p < .05). In contrast, their demographic variables made no statistically significant difference to that, which made a 79.2% prediction of it.

An experimental study in a recirculating water channel was carried out to investigate the effect of large coherent structures to the skin friction on a flat plate. Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique was used to quantify characteristic features of coherent structures growing to the boundary layer. In the PIV measurement, it is difficult to calculate the friction velocity near the wall region due to laser deflection and uncertainty so that Clauser fitting method at the logarithmic region was adopted to compute the friction velocity and compared with the one directly measured by the dynamometer. With changing the free-stream velocity from 0.5 m/s to 1.0 m/s, the activity of coherent structures in the logarithmic region was increased over three times in terms of Reynolds stress. The flow field was separated by Variable Interval Time Averaging (VITA) technique into the weak and the strong structure case depending on the existence large coherent structures in order to validate its effectiveness. The stream-wise velocity fluctuation was scanned through at the boundary thickness whether it had a large deviation from background flow. With coherent structures connected from near-wall to the boundary layer, mean wall shear stress was higher than that of weak structure case. Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) analysis was also applied to compare the energy budget between them at each free-stream velocity.
The aim of this study was to evaluate prospectively the impact of the red ginseng extract on circulating interleukin (IL) 2 and 10 in advanced gastric cancer during chemotherapy after operative treatment. Analysis of circulating IL-2 and 10 was performed in 50 patients with advanced gastric adenocarcinoma who underwent a curative surgery or with an unresectable gastric adenocarcinoma by using ELISA and monoclonal antibodies at preoperative day 1, postoperative months 1, and 3. Twenty-five patients as the control group, twenty-six patients as the non-ginseng (NG) group, and twenty-four patients as the ginseng (G) group were eligible in this study. All plasma IL-2 of the NG and G groups was significantly lower an that of the control group on preoperative 1 day. These values of the G group were more increase than these of the NG group during the postoperative chemotherapy. The mean value of serum IL-10 of the control group (0.608pg/ml) was significantly lower than that of the advanced gastric cancer patients including the NG (12.015 pg/ml) and G group (9.409 pg/ml) (p<0.001). These values of the G group were reduced progressively during the postoperative chemotherapy. The mesh value of the G group were only close to that of the control group on postoperative months 3 (p=0.003). The number of patients who were enrolled in this study was relatively small to fully evaluate the immunologic effects of the red ginseng extract on circulating IL-2 and 10. Despite this limitation, these results suggest that the post-operative intake of the red ginseng extract have potential to improve earlier anti-cancer immunity with recovering IL-2 and reducing IL-10 from the depressed IL-2 and elevated IL-10 by gastric cancer during the postoperative chemotherapy. This study will be based on the future study to evaluate the anti-immunity of the red ginseng extract.
