The advent of Large Jar coffin Tombs in Yeongsangang River Valley (영산강류역(榮山江流域) 옹관고분(甕棺古墳) 발생(發生) 배경(背景))

  • Large Jar had been manufactured and used broadly in Mahan area from late second century. At first, it was used for various purposes, for example storing utensils at household and religious service at tombs. But it's usage was shifted with the political expansion of Baekje. In late third century, large jar coffin appeared in tombs as an important burial unit at Yeongsangang river valley. It has specific traits such as saw blade-shaped design etc. That style is distinguished from Baekje's. Unification of form and style of large jar coffin signify the socio-political distinction between Yeongsangang river valley and Baekje. Large jar coffin was used emblemic style for this purposes by the political elites of the Yeongsangang river valley. This process was caused by political reason, that is, need for integration of the Yeongsangang river valley communities against the territorial expansion of Baekje state.

  • N-p-nitrophenyl poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) was obtained from treatment of poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) with sodium hydride in dimethyl sulfoxide followed by the addition of 1-fluoro-4-nitrobenzene in 43 wt% yield. Its inherent viscosity was 0.606 g/cm${\cdot}$sec determined from a solution of 0.125 g of the above polymer dissolved in 25 ml of 98% sulfuric acid at $30^{\circ}C.$ In order to synthesize poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide), 1,3-phenylenediamine is allowed to react with isophthaloyl chloride in chloroform in the presence of triethylamine and added triethylamine hydrochloride. The value of inherent viscosity is 0.560 g/cm${\cdot}$sec measured at the same condition. The substitution ratio of N-p-nitrophenyl poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) was to be 16.7∼47.0% by using the $^1H-NMR$ integration. When the higher inherent viscosity of poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) was used, lower substitution ratio would be calculated.

  • The polymeric titania sol was prepared via partial hydrolysis of titanium isopropoxide and its characteristics were investigated. The effect of solvent, catalyst and water content on the sol stability was investigated. The shear viscosities of sol solution at different temperatures were measured to determine the gel time. Employing the spin coating technique, optically clear and transparent titanium oxide thin film was fabricated. Even after doped with second-order nonlinear optical(NL0) active monomers, the film quality was maintained very homogeneous. The film was corona-poled under 3~ 5kV at 50~$100^{\circ}C$ range. The electro-optic coefficient, $r_{33}$ was measured to be 1.5~5pm/V using the wavelength, 632.8nm from He-Ne laser.

  • The microscopic origin of nonlinear optical properties of quinoline derivatives have been investigated theoretically using MOPAC-AM1 method. In order to prepare promising nonlinear optical active polymers of polyquinoline derivatives, the optimized positions of strong electron donor and electron acceptor are determined in the heterocyclic ring for the energetically favorable structures. For each compound, the effect of the substituted positions on the microscopic nonlinear coefficients were investigated. Polyquinoline was already evaluated to have outstanding physical and mechanical properties so that its monomeric analogues were designed and synthesized for developing new second and third order nonlinear optical main chain polymers. Using the MOPAC-AM1 method, properties calculated include the intrinsic ground-state dipole moments, the polarizabilities, first and second hyperpolarizabilities under the condition of finite-field $(\omega$ = 0).

  • The tomb is an important clue for understanding the ancient society of Namwon (南原). In order to establish local identity through the burial mounds and appropriately preserve and utilize it, basic investigation should be conducted to grasp the current situation of the burials. Additionally, excavation surveys and research are needed to understand the nature of the tombs. Based on this activity, local people should be informed about the importance of the tombs and participate in the preservation and utilization activities together. Preservation and utilization should be of the complex type. However, it should be improved systematically based on the fact that the tombs have not been properly investigated. In order to do this, the related organizations and budgets should be allocated at all times in Namwon City.

The Change of Management Methods on Iksan and the rearrangement of Sabi by Baekje (백제의 익산 경영 방식의 전환과 사비(泗沘) 재정비)

  • In this article, I examine the transformation of the Iksan Royal Palace into a temple. And it was considered to mean a change in the way Iksan was managed by Baekje. The Iksan Royal Palace was converted into a temple between the establishment of Mireuksa Temple and Stone Pagoda. As a result, the transfer of the capital to Iksan was not achieved, and Iksan was transformed into a temple-centered city. In connection with this, the need to re-establishment the urban system in Sabi was increased, as it suffered a great flood in the Muwang era. As a result, the scope of the royal palace was expanded, the secondary palace was built, and the urban district was expanded throughout the capital city. It is presumed that King Mu gave a divine nature to Iksan and discriminated against Sabi. Accordingly, it is believed that the King Mu or King Uija stopped developing the city in Iksan and focused on the rearrangement of Sabi.

The Establishment Year of 'Jeongnimsa' Temple in Buyeo (백제(百濟) '정림사(定林寺)'의 창건연대(創建年代))

  • This paper investigated the construction year of 'Jeongnimsa(定林寺)temple in Buyeo(扶餘) through the recent archaeological records. First, the composition of land for the construction of temple was linked with Gwanbukri(官北里) sites which is estimated as palace. The composition of land for the palace was formed at late 6th century. Second, the several furnace sites was discovered under the foundation soil layers for the construction of temple. Reference to the pottery excavated from the previous surface indicates that the workshops having been operated a period of time after the transfer of the capital to Sabi(泗?). These workshops having been operated before the construction of roof-tile buildings which were followed by the large-scale composition of land for the palace at Gwanbukri sites adjacent to the north of 'Jeongnimsa. The pottery, roof-tiles and chinese porcelain which were included in the earth laid on the ground for the construction of temple also indicates that the construction year of temple do not go up to shortly after the transfer of the capital to Sabi. This is related with that wooden pagoda would have been present before stone pagoda and the foundation of the wooden pagoda would have soared into the ground. Last, the building layout of temple is familiar to Iksan(益山) Mireuksa(彌勒寺址) temple site than the temples of Buyeo such as Wangheungsa(王興寺址) temple site. This imply that Jeongnimsa temple was not constructed shortly after the transfer of the capital to Sabi like the opinion of the existing. Jeongnimsa temple was probably constructed at late 6th century when composition of the Sabi city was actively made.

A Study on the Yocoanabo (Cave Tombs) of the Baekje Kingdom (백제(百濟) 횡혈묘(橫穴墓)의 특징과 의미에 대하여)

  • In this paper, the features and meanings of the Yocoanabo (cave tombs) excavated in the Gongju and Buyeo regions were examined. The creation of the Yocoanabo in the Korean Peninsula was related to the situation in which the powers of the Northern Kyushu (九州) and Yeongsangang (榮山江) River Basin played certain roles and maintained power in the interactions of Wa and Baekje in the late 5th century until the early 6th century. The people buried in the Yocoanabo in the Gongju and Buyeo regions are most closely related to the Buzen (豊前) area in northern Kyushu. They also interacted with the Yeongsangang River Basin communities. The Yocoanabo in Gongju and Buyeo confirms the settlement of the Wa people. There were collective settlements such as the Danjiri (丹芝里) site on the outskirts of Woongjin (熊津). However, most of them were mixed with small local groups located on the main roads connecting Woongjin and Sabi (泗?) through the Geum River and land routes. Unlike the keyhole-shaped tombs of the Youngsangang River Basin, the Yocoanabo was not built until the 7th century. This explains differences in the backgrounds of the two types of graves. The people buried in the Yocoanabo are considered to have settled in the Baekje Kingdom and to have been responsible for practical work in the political and economic negotiations between Baekje and Wa. They came to the Baekje Kingdom collectively in connection with certain historical events. However, it had been presumed that most of the people came individually and dispersed to the local communities of Gonju and Buyeo.

The Growth and Locality of Mahan(馬韓) Seen through the Pottery in Tombs (분묘 출토 토기로 살펴본 마한의 성장과 지역성)

  • This article deals with some issues with respect to the Mahan pottery excavated from the tombs. Pedestal jars with cover, small round-bottom jars, cylindrical pottery etc. had appeared in the interaction with the northern region in the dimension of the southern Korean peninsula. Especially, these relics had an important role at the route connecting the midwest region, Chungcheong(忠淸) inland and Yeongnam(嶺南) region. By this stage, the iron culture was similar to each other in the southern Korean peninsula. In addition to the inland route, the coastal passage along the west coast seems to have been used. Such signs are found in cylindrical pottery and Pedestal jars with cover. It was probably a natural phenomenon that the most powerful forces of Mahan appeared at this crossroad of cultural exchange. The unique style of Mahan pottery such as double-rim pottery had been established since the third century. After the third century, Mahan pottery varied by region depending on the tomb style. The difference roughly matches with the variations of the tomb style. But at the region of Bungumyo(mounded tomb), specific pottery such double-rim pottery had been prevalent than in other regions. And a specific style had been used in a narrow range. The pottery spread to the neighboring regions in the course of interaction and were also used in ritual practices.

  • This article examined the burial type, wooden coffin and its historical significance of Iksan Ssangneung, the royal tombs of Baekje. Ssangneung was found to be the royal tombs of King Mu(武王) and queen through the burial type, wooden coffin, articles such as chinese jade ornaments and the deep relationship between King Mu and Iksan region. The reason of constructing Baekje royal tombs in Iksan region can be examined at many aspects. First, Iksan was a very important place for King Mu. Because Iksan was the basis of his political growth. Also, Iksan was a important geopolitical location in relation with Silla(新羅). For this reason, Iksan was developed in earnest. The construction of major facilities such as royal palace and temples in Iksan suggest the transfer of the capital from Sabi(泗?) or the preparation and partial execution at least. However, the transfer of the capital was not completed. It can be seen as the incomplete city. However, even after King Mu Iksan was maintained as the important region by King Euja(義慈王). It can be seen through the maintenance of great temples such as Jeseoksa(帝釋寺) and Mireuksa(彌勒寺) built at later period of King Mu and royal palace area, even though royal palace had turned into the temple. These inherited consciousness may have been embodied in the act of building royal tombs of King Mu and queen.
