  • The characteristics of elasto-plastic responses of a gymnasium building which is a steel braced frame with membrane roof is discussed as a basic research on the performance based seismic design of large span structures, in this paper. Under the strong earthquake motions, the formation of plastic hinges on braces attached by the bottom frame make reduce down the stresses and displacements of upper structures, and vertical acceleration of the membrane is tend to increase but maximum response of strain and corresponding stresses are tend to be reduced.

  • The seismic isolation system reduces the seismic vibration that is transmitted from foundation to upper structure. This seismic isolation system can be classified into base isolation and mid-story isolation by the installation location. In this study, the seismic behavior of arch structure with mid-story isolation is analyzed to verify the effect of seismic isolation. Mid-story isolation is more effective than base isolation to reduce the seismic responses of roof structure. Also, this isolation would be excellent in structural characteristics and construction.

Evaluation of Rocking Mechanism for Embedded Shallow Foundation via Horizontal Slow Cyclic Tests (수평반복하중 실험을 이용한 근입된 얕은 기초의 회전거동 메커니즘 평가)

  • Rocking behavior of shallow foundation reduces the superstructure load during earthquake. However, because of deficiency of understanding of rocking mechanism and soil permanent deformation, it has not been applied to real construction. In this study, slow cyclic tests were conducted for embedded shallow foundations with various slenderness ratio via centrifuge tests. From the variation of earth pressure 'soil rounding surface' phenomenon which makes maximum overturning moment equal to ultimate moment capacity was observed. Rocking and sliding behavior mechanism was evaluated. Also, nonlinear behavior and energy dissipation increase as rotation angle increases. And ultimate moment capacity of embedded foundation is larger than that of surface foundation. Finally, adequate ultimate moment capacity can be suggested for seismic design through this study.

  • Up to now, common studies of top base have concentrated upon bearing capacity and settlement by in-situ loading test in Japan and Korea. But most of all preceding study for top base must analyze how to deliver overburden loading on bottom of foundation. Therefore, in this study, the stress delivery mechanism of Top-Base Foundation developed in Japan and Floating Top Base developed in Korea is investigated through numerical analysis and laboratory model test. Analyzing the load delivery mechanism of top base, it was found that the division rate of load reduction of top base for overburden load was largest in peripheral skin friction between the top base and the crushed stone. Further, total stress dispersion angle of Top-Base Foundation including internal stress dispersion effect of top base was $41.8^{\circ}$ and total stress dispersion angle of Floating Top Base was $44.5^{\circ}$.

Case Study on Reliability Analysis of Offshore Wind Turbine Foundation (해상풍력기초 신뢰성해석 사례분석 연구)

  • In this paper, the behavior of offshore wind turbine(OWT) foundation which is modeled by using existing design method and FEM is compared. When the same type of foundation is designed under the same sea and ground condition, the behavior characteristics with each model are compared. As a result, the member forces between apparent fixity and distributed spring type foundation which consider the ground stiffness are not different markedly, while fixed-base type foundation shows relatively lower member forces, which results in smaller safety margin. In other words, considering ground stiffness is reasonable because soil-pile interaction affects significantly on the analysis result. A case study with a monopile shows significant errors between p-y and FEM model at the head and tip of the pile. Also, it shows that the errors at the tip with diameter increase of the pile is larger. Thus, considering ground characteristics and engineering judgment are necessary in practice. A comparison of reliability analysis between tripod and monopile type foundation on the same condition shows larger probability of failure in monopile type and it indicates that the safety margin of monopile type can be lower.

  • This study is on the types and characteristics of foundation and basestone which can be seen in remains of Baekje and Silla in beginning study of them in ancient Korean architecture. This is a close investigation that division of the shape of the basestone and the type of Jeoksim(積心, the supporting part under the basestone) and foundation under the ground. Also it can be seen that the difference of construction technique and the relation with each part. The research objects are the remains of temples which had been excavated or are been excavating now in Baekje area and in Silla from 6th to 8th century. Results of research published in north Korea are quoted for the remains in Goguryeo being unable to be seen as they are in north Korea. If it had been possible to visit the sites, the materials would have been collected from the direct investigation. Otherwise they are collected from the excavaion results published. After that the basestone and the foundation could be divided according to several types. Also each types can be compared and studied according to times and building use. The results are follows. There are some different characteristics between Baekje and Silla in the technique of foundation, jeoksim, and basestone. Through them it is possible that the arhitectural technique of Baekje had been introduced to not only wooden pagoda in the erection of hwangryongsa temple. These results are considered limited in a few remains grasped the characteristics so it should be complemented continuously as the outcome of excavation of architectural remains will be accumulated to.

Economic Feasibility of Bucket Foundation for Offshore Wind Farm (해상풍력발전 버켓기초공법의 경제성 평가)

  • As the turbine capacity and the water depth of wind farms are increasing, the construction cost of substructures and foundations for offshore wind turbines is expected to increase. Since the installation of suction bucket foundation is achieved by both self-weight and applied suction, the construction generally does not require heavy equipment for penetration. This study provides an economic analysis on the tripod which have the bucket foundations and compares that the jacket foundation at 50m water depth on sand layer or soft layer. As the strength of the soil and the number of the foundation is increasing, the construction cost of the tripod with the bucket foundations is more economically feasible than the jacket foundation.

  • In recent days, the foundations of huge structures in general and mega foundations of grand bridges and high-rise buildings in particular are required in geotechnical engineering. This study described 3 dimensional behavior of mat foundation on soft rock based on a numerical study using 3D finite element method. A series of numerical analyses were performed for various soil conditions and mat rigidities under vertical loading. Based on the results of the parametric study, it is shown that the prediction of the settlement, cross sectional tensile stress and bending moments in the mat is overestimated in the analysis without considering interface behavior in comparison with the analysis considering interface between mat and rock mass.

포항제철소 냉연 조질 정정 Line 전산화에 관한 연구

  • 본 논문에서는 자동화 및 전산화가 부족한 포항제철소 내의 기기 중 냉연공장의 #2RCL공정을 대상으로 하여 실제 포항제철의 전산망 구조를 따르는 시스템을 구성하여 보았다. 또한 실험에서는 현재 포항제철소에서 추진 중인 EIC통합안에서 제시하고 있는 VMEbus를 기반으로 하여 하부의 조업 데이타를 수집하는 시스템을 구축하여 보았다. 이러한 시스템의 구성은 향후 EIC통합안의 표준에 따르는 공정 전산망을 미리 실현해 봄으로써 차후 실제 전산망 구축 시에 필요한 기초적인 데이타로서 사용이 가능하리라 사료된다.
