An On-chip Cache and Main Memory Compression System Optimized by Considering the Compression rate Distribution of Compressed Blocks (압축블록의 압축률 분포를 고려해 설계한 내장캐시 및 주 메모리 압축시스템)

  • Recently, an on-chip compressed cache system was presented to alleviate the processor-memory Performance gap by reducing on-chip cache miss rate and expanding memory bandwidth. This research Presents an extended on-chip compressed cache system which also significantly expands main memory capacity. Several techniques are attempted to expand main memory capacity, on-chip cache capacity, and memory bandwidth as well as reduce decompression time and metadata size. To evaluate the performance of our proposed system over existing systems, we use execution-driven simulation method by modifying a superscalar microprocessor simulator. Our experimental methodology has higher accuracy than previous trace-driven simulation method. The simulation results show that our proposed system reduces execution time by 4-23% compared with conventional memory system without considering the benefits obtained from main memory expansion. The expansion rates of data and code areas of main memory are 57-120% and 27-36%, respectively.

  • It is difficult to think of any behavioral process that is more intrinsically important to human beings than social attachment. Feeding, sleeping and locomotion are all necessary for survival, but humans are 'a social animal' and it is our social attachment that we live for. One of the early pioneers in this area, Harry Harlow, described the different behavioral processes that are involved in the formation of parent-infant, filial and pair(male-female) bonds. Each of these involves multi-sensory processing and complex motor responses. Over the past decades, studies in a range of vertebrates, including humans, have begun to address the neural basis of attachment at a molecular, cellular and systemic level. This review describes some of important insights from these works, involving three different areas:1) Neurobiological research of infant-parent, parent-infant attachment, 2) Animal studies regarding attachment, 3) Neurobehavioral studies of maltreatment/deprivation causing serious breakdown of attachment relationship in humans.

  • 전기공학은 그 분야가 광범위하면서 세분된 여러 소분야로 구성되어 있기 때문에 이를 간단한 몇마디로 표현하기는 불가능하다. 그러나 전기기술자는 전하를 위시하여 전하간의 힘 및 전하간의 에너지 교환에 관하여 주로 관여하게 된다. 즉 전기기술자는 전기적 에너지 및 정보의 발생, 전송, 기억 및 제어를 최적화할 책임이 있고, 그 분야는 부단히 팽창일로에 있으며 변해가고 있다. 즉 학문적인 기초이론 뿐만아니라 실제 응용분야인 산업분야에서도 눈부신 발전과 변화를 가져왔다. 현대산업 및 기술구조의 질적개선은 기술 반감기의 감소, 막대한 양의 정보처리, 시스템의 대형화, 복잡화 현상을 가져왔으며 기술자체가 사회경제활동에 미치는 영향을 극대화시켰다. 그러므로 오늘날의 모든 전기기술자들은 신뢰성을 고려한 보다 넓은 의미에서의 책임을 느껴야 한다. 조국의 근대화와 방위산업육성 과정에서 중추적 역할을 담당할 이러한 전기공학분야의 중견연구원 및 기술자를 양성하는 공과대학전기공학과의 교과과정 역시 부단히 변하는 각종 환경에 적응될 수 있는 dynamic한 것이 되어야 한다. 즉 공과대학 전기공학과이 교과과정은 어떤 특정되고 고정된 기술 또는 설계에 대한 교과목으로 치우치는 것보다 수명이 길고 강력한 응용력과 창의력을 발휘하여 우리의 기술을 토착화하여 이를 우리의 것으로 만들 수 있는 것이 되어야 한다. 이러한 국내외적인 현실을 고려하여 당학회에서는 1974년도 조사연구사업의 일환으로 교과과정조사회를 구성하여 국내의 여러대학의 전기공학과 교과과정편성에 다소의 도움을 주고저 일차적인 시안으로서 다음과 같은 특징을 갖는 교과과정을 작성하였다.{3}$N$_{4}$등의 산화물 및 질화물로 대표되는 분자성 비정질 물질로서 금지대는 2eV보다 큰 세종류로 크게 분류할 수 있다. 분류할 수 있다. 한다. 단 개개의 문제에 관한 구체적인 해석 또는 검토에 관하여는 다음 기회에 미루기로하고, 우선 여기서는 당면문제로서 대처하지 않으면 안될 자동주파수제어문제및 계통의 경제운용문제만에 한정하여, 이것을 우리나라의 현상과 관련시켜 개설하고, 이들의 자동화에 관한 기본적인 문제를 간단히 적어 보겠다. 가능하다. 제작완료된 ASIC은 기능시험을 완료했으며 실제 line-of-sight(LOS) 시스템 구현에 적용중이다. 시대를 살아 갈 회원들이다. 유리반도체

  • 반도체와 그의 응용소자는 지난 20여년간 눈부식 발전을 이룩하였다. 이는 주로 단결정의 제작기술 진보에 의한 것으로 본다. 그러나 최근 단결정과는 전연 다른 유리질반도체가 국제회의에서도 그 우수성을 의논하기에 이르렀다. 유리질 반도체가 주목을 끌게 된겻은 1968년 Ovshinsky가 "무질서 구조에 있어서 가역적 스위칭현상"이라는 논문이 발표되고 유리질 반도체를 사용한 Ovonic 스위칭 소자의 출현에 기인된다. 유리질 반도체가 전기스위칭 작용, 기억작용을 나타낸다고 하는 Ovshinsky의 발표는 전자제치로서의 응용에 대해 찬반되는 의견이 있었지만 물성적 연구의 교량적인 역할을했다고 할 수 있다. 이런 반도체에 속하는 재료는 호칭도 여러가지로 유리질반도체, 비정질반도체 무정형반도체등으로 불리어진다. 단결정체가 각 격자간에 장거리질서를 갖는 반면 유리질 반도체는 무질서한 구조로 각 격자간에 단거리 질서를 갖는 것이 단결정과는 본질적으로 다른 점이라 본다. 유리 반도체의 종류는 첫째, 원소성 유리반도체로서 Ge, Si, Se, Te 들과 같이 단일원소로 된 겻과, 둘째 IV, V, VI족 원소로 된 공유결합 합금인 As$_{2}$Se$_{3}$-As$_{2}$Te$_{3}$ 계 Ge Si As Te계등의 칼코게나이드 유리등으로 금지대는 어느 것이나 2eV이하이다. 셋째 이론결합인 SiO $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$ Ta$_{2}$O$_{3}$Si$_{3}$N$_{4}$등의 산화물 및 질화물로 대표되는 분자성 비정질 물질로서 금지대는 2eV보다 큰 세종류로 크게 분류할 수 있다. 분류할 수 있다. 한다. 단 개개의 문제에 관한 구체적인 해석 또는 검토에 관하여는 다음 기회에 미루기로하고, 우선 여기서는 당면문제로서 대처하지 않으면 안될 자동주파수제어문제및 계통의 경제운용문제만에 한정하여, 이것을 우리나라의 현상과 관련시켜 개설하고, 이들의 자동화에 관한 기본적인 문제를 간단히 적어 보겠다. 가능하다. 제작완료된 ASIC은 기능시험을 완료했으며 실제 line-of-sight(LOS) 시스템 구현에 적용중이다. 시대를 살아 갈 회원들이다. Convergent Web-based Education Program to Prevent Dementia (웹기반의 치매 예방용 융합교육 프로그램 개발)

  • The purpose of the present study was to develop a convergent education contents for dementia prevention, operating on the web network applying modern information technology(IT). At the preparation stage, local and worldwide literatures related to dementia were analyzed followed by surveying industry demands, based on which the program was designed and developed. In the following enhancement stage, the program was modified as much as possible by advices obtained from experts in various fields. Development results of the present program are summarized as follows. Firstly, 645 intellect development model to prevent dementia was established through peer review and verification of convergent education theories by expert groups. This model was named as "Garisani" meaning "cognition capable of judging objects" in the Korean language. Secondly, 'Find a way' and 'Connect a line' modules were developed in the numeric field as well as 'Identify a letter(I, II)' modules, in the language field for web-based left brain training program. Thirdly, 'Find my car' and 'Vision training' modules in the attention field and 'Object inference' and 'Compare pictures' modules in the cognition field were developed for web-based right brain training program. Fourth, 'Pentomino' and 'BQmaze'(Brain Quotient and maze) modules in the space perception field and 'Visual training' in the memory field were developed for web-based left and right brains training. Fifth, all results were integrated leading to a 52 week Garisani convergent education program for dementia prevention.

Energy-efficient Correlated Data Placement Techniques for Multi-disk-based Mobile Systems (다중 디스크 기반 모바일 시스템 대상의 에너지 효율적인 연관 데이타 배치 기법)

  • Hard disks have been the most prevalent secondary storage devices and these days their usage is becoming more important in mobile computing systems due to I/O intensive applications such as multimedia applications and games. However, significant power consumption in the disk drives still limits battery lifetimes of mobile systems critically. In this paper, we show that using several smaller disks (instead of one large disk) can be an energy-efficient secondary storage solution on typical mobile platforms without a significant performance delay. Also, we propose a novel energy-efficient technique, which clusters related data into groups and migrates the correlated groups to the same disk. We compare this method with the existing data concentration scheme, and also combine them. The experiments show that our technique saves the energy consumption up to 34% when a pair of 1.8' disks is used instead of a single 2.5' disk with a negligible increase in the average response time. The results also show that our method also saves up to 14.8% of disk energy consumption and improve the average I/O response time by up to 10 times over the existing scheme.

An Analysis of High School Student's Understanding Level about Basic Concepts of Special Relativity through in-depth interview (심층 면담을 통한 고등학생들의 특수 상대론 기초 개념에 대한 이해 수준 분석)

  • The Purpose of this study was an analysis of high school student's understanding level about concepts of special relativity through in-depth interview. The 8 participants were 10th grade students in H high school in Ulsan city, who were interviewed and analyzed in the results of the interview about basic concepts of special relativity using achievement checklist in 6 situations(principle of constancy of light velocity, principle of relativity, relativity of simultaneity, garage paradox, rocket paradox). As results of the checklist, the participants showed high achievement in the content level of simple phenomena and simple concepts related to special relativity. But they showed low achievement in the concept level for fundamental understanding of special relativity. As results of the interview, it was found that the participants decided the order of events depending on their intuition and had a difficulty to apply the coordinate system to real situation, even though they mathematically understood it. In addition, some participants who could not understand the inertial coordinate system explained paradoxes of relativity depending on their intuition and had learner's chaos. Finally, though high school students usually being in formal operational stage, some students had difficulty to draw phenomena of space and time in two dimensional plane.

  • It is necessary to develop methodologies for the application of artificial neural network into hydrologic rainfall-runoff process, although there is so much applicability by using the functions of associative memory based on recognition for the relationships between causes and effects and the excellent fitting capacity for the nonlinear phenomenon. In this study, some problems are presented in the application procedures of artificial neural networks and the simulation of runoff hydrograph experiences are reviewed with nonlinear functional approximator by artificial neural network for rainfall-runoff relationships in a watershed. which is regarded as hydrdologic black box model. The neural network models are constructed by organizing input and output patterns with the deserved rainfall and runoff data in Pyoungchang river basin under the assumption that the rainfall data is the input pattern and runoff hydrograph is the output patterns. Analyzed with the results. it is possible to simulate the runoff hydrograph with processing element of artificial neural network with any hydrologic concepts and the weight among processing elements are well-adapted as model parameters with the assumed model structure during learning process. Based upon these results. it is expected that neural network theory can be utilized as an efficient approach to simulate runoff hydrograph and identify the relationship between rainfall and runoff as hydrosystems which is necessary to develop and manage water resources.

The Image of Science Teachers suggested by Pre-service Science Teachers (예비 과학 교사가 보유한 과학 교사에 대한 이미지)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the image as science teachers recognized by pre-service science teachers. The data was collected from 312 pre-service science teachers from Kyungpook National University in Daegu and participants were asked to write about the image of science teachers they liked most and least in their secondary school years freely. The result of this research was as follows. The image as science teachers categorized 2 factors: science instructional situation, image of science teacher. Each factor was subdivided into more detailed ones. First of all, 'science instructional situation' category subdivided into lesson style, teaching-learning materials, teaching methods, and class atmosphere. In lesson style, 'experiment' and 'observation' gained the most favorable comments, and questioning-answering gained the least. In teaching-learning materials, print materials such as handouts, worksheets, reports were the most liked, and 'writing on the blackboard' was the least liked. In teaching methods, the 'detailed and systematic explanation of the theory and concepts' was preferred to rote learning and memorization lacking explanation. In class atmosphere, friendly and free atmosphere was the most preferred, and uncomfortable, boring one was the least preferred. Secondly, in 'image of the science teachers' category and 'quality as the teachers' sub-category, thoughtful and considerate teachers who respect students' personality was the most preferred. On the contrary, they didn't prefer teachers who were indifferent and humiliated students. Finally in 'characteristics of the teachers' sub-category, the participants liked clear, energetic voice, and mild expression, and they didn't like formal style, overly fancy clothes, etc. Based on the result of this study, more empirical study on the teachers' image is needed, and the thoughts of educational administrators, students, parents, and teachers should be reflected because an undesirable teacher can be advised and get opportunity to be a better teacher.

Fabrication and Evaluation of NMOS Devices (NMOS 소자의 제작 및 평가)

  • Using N_ Ch silicon gate technology . the capacitors and transistors with various dimenssion were fabricated. Although the applied process was somewhat standard the conditions of ion implantation for the gate were varied by changing the implant energies from 30keV to 60keV for B and from 100 keV to 175keV for P . The doses of the implant also changed from 3 $\times$ 10 /$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 5 $\times$ 10 /$\textrm{cm}^2$ for B and from 4$\times$ 10 /$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 7 $\times$ 10 /$\textrm{cm}^2$ for P . The D. C. parameters such as threshold voltage. substrate doping level, the degree of inversion, capacitance. flat band voltage, depletion layer width, gate oxide thickless, surface states, motile charge density, electron mobility. leakage current were evaluated and also compared with the corresponing theoretical values and / or good numbers for application. The threshold voltages measured using curve tracer and C-V plot gave good agreements with the values calculated from SUPREM II which has been developed by Stanford University process group. The threshold vol tapes with back gate bias were used to calculate the change of the substrate doping level. The measured subthreshold slope enabled the prediction of the degree of inversion The D. C. testing results suggest the realized capacitors and transistors are suited for the memory applications.
