  • A 2(pedagogical agent: with vs. without) × 2(on-screen text: with vs. without) between-subject design was used in this study to investigate the effects of pedagogical agent and redundant on-screen text on video learning. In the case of the educational video without redundant on-screen text, there was no difference in social presence, satisfaction, and intention to continue learning regardless of the presence of a pedagogical agent. However, when the educational video contained redundant on-screen text, participants who watched educational video with pedagogical agent perceived higher social presence, satisfaction and intention to continue. In terms of academic achievement, no difference was found whether redundant on-screen text was contained or not. It supports some of the previous studies on the reverse-redundancy effects, suggesting that the inclusion of redundant text does not necessarily cause the reduction of learning outcomes. Video learning shows a higher dropout rate than face-to-face learning. Therefore, it is particularly important to understand how to strengthen interactions with learners and motivate them to keep themselves engaged in learning. This study discussed whether pedagogical agent and on-screen text are factors that induce continuous participation of learners in video learning.

  • In the event of a disaster, it is essential to establish a disaster recovery plan and disaster recovery system to minimize disruption to major IT infrastructure and provide continuous business services. In the process of building a disaster recovery system, data replication is a key element of data recovery to provide uninterrupted and continuous business services in the event of a disaster. The data replication method can be determined depending on the system configuration environment and disaster recovery goal level. In this paper, we present a method for determining a data replication method suitable for the configuration environment and disaster recovery target level when building a disaster recovery system. In addition, the replication method decision procedure is applied to build a disaster recovery system and analyze the construction results. After establishing the disaster recovery system, a test was conducted to determine whether the service was transferred to the disaster recovery center in a disaster situation and normal service was provided, and the results were analyzed. As a result, it was possible to systematically select the optimal data replication method during the disaster recovery system construction phase. The established disaster recovery system has an RTO of 3.7 hours for service conversion to the disaster recovery center to provide continuous business services, and the disaster recovery level, which was Tier 2, has been improved to the target level within 4 hours of RTO and RPO=0.

  • With the rapid increase of multicultural families in South Korea due to international marriages and the influx of foreign workers, the number of children from these families enlisting in the military is also rising. It is projected that by 2030, over 10,000 recruits from multicultural backgrounds will join the military annually. This influx can help mitigate the issue of decreasing military resources due to low birth rates and enhance the cultural diversity within the military. However, the lack of multicultural awareness and the presence of discrimination in the military can hinder the well-being of these multicultural soldiers. This study aims to analyze the multicultural phenomenon in the Korean military and explore development strategies to ensure the stable service and healthy military culture for multicultural soldiers. The theoretical background of multiculturalism and diversity in the military is examined, along with the analysis of multicultural military operations in other countries. Management strategies for multicultural soldiers, including leadership and organizational culture innovation, multicultural education and awareness programs, and the establishment of tailored support systems, are proposed. Furthermore, policy recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of multicultural policies in the Korean military are presented. Supporting the successful military service of multicultural soldiers will contribute to the enhancement of military combat power and the acceptance of multiculturalism in Korean society.

  • A systemic review on the factors affecting food catering hygiene was conducted to provide information for risk management of food catering in Korea. In total 47 keywords relating to food catering and food hygiene were searched for published journals in the DBpia for the last decade (2005-2014). As a result, 1,178 published papers were searched and 142 articles were collected by the expert review. To find the major factors affecting food catering and microbial safety, an analysis based on organization and stakeholder were conducted. School catering (64 papers) was a major target rather than industry (5 pagers) or hospitals (3 papers) in the selected articles. The factors affecting school catering were "system/facility/equipment (15 papers)", "hygiene education (12 papers)", "production/delivery company (6 papers)", food materials (4 papers)" and "any combination of the above factors (9 papers)". The major problems are follow. 1) The problems of "system/facility/equipment" were improper space division/separation, lack of mass cooking utensil, lack of hygiene control equipment, difficulty in temperature and humidity control, and lack of cooperation in the HACCP team (dietitian's position), poor hygienic classroom in the case of class dining (students'), hard workload/intensity of labor, poor condition of cook's safety (cook's) and lack of parents' monitoring activity (parents'). 2) The problem of "hygiene education' were related to formal and perfunctory hygiene education, lack of HACCP education, lack of compliance of hygiene practice (cook's), lack of personal hygiene education and little effect of education (students'). 3) The problems of "production/delivery company" were related to hygiene of delivery truck and temperature control, hygiene of employee in the supplying company and control of non-accredited HACCP company. 4) The area of "food materials" cited were distrust of safety regarding to raw materials, fresh cut produces, and pre-treated food materials. 5) In addition, job stability/the salary can affect the occupational satisfaction and job commitment. And job stress can affect the performance and the hygiene practice. It is necessary for the government to allocate budget for facility and equipment, conduct field survey, improve hygiene training program and inspection, prepare certification system, improve working condition of employees, and introducing hygiene and layout consulting by experts. The results from this study can be used to prepare education programs and develop technology for improving food catering hygiene and providing information.

  • Even though rarely recognized as a separate approach, the institutional approach in geography is defined as an attempt to seek an explanation of the phenomena of geographical interest through focusing on the effects of institutional structure and actions. It can provide interdisciplinary links with other works and can offer complementary explanations for geographical interests. The concerns for institutions in geography can be found in early studies, the study of the state, the managerial approach, and the regulation approach. The Korean financial systems can provide good examples to apply institutional concepts into creating spatial outcomes, as it has been regarded as a useful tool to promote Korean economic development. Behind the current spatial pattern of financial systems, four different stages of institutional changes are identified in Korea. Each stage has different institutional features reflecting unique spatial implication.

  • Digital records management is one whole system in which many social and technical elements are interacting. To maintain the trustworthiness, the repository needs periodical audit and certification. Thus, individual electronic records management agency needs toolkit that can be used to self-evaluate their trustworthiness continuously, and self-assess their atmosphere and system to recognize deficiencies. The purpose of this study is development of self-certification toolkit for repositories, which synthesized and analysed such four international standard and best practices as OAIS Reference Model(ISO 14721), TRAC, DRAMBORA, and the assessment report conducted and published by TNA/UKDA, as well as MoRe2 and current national laws and standards. As this paper describes and demonstrate the development process and the framework of this self-certification toolkit, other electronic records management agencies could follow the process and develop their own toolkit reflecting their situation, and utilize the self-assessment results in-house. As a result of this research, 12 areas for assessment were set, which include (organizational) operation management, classification system and master data management, acquisition, registration and description, storage and preservation, disposal, services, providing finding aids, system management, access control and security, monitoring/audit trail/statistics, and risk management. In each 12 area, the process map or functional charts were drawn and business functions were analyzed, and 54 'evaluation criteria', consisted of main business functional unit in each area were drawn. Under each 'evaluation criteria', 208 'specific evaluation criteria', which supposed to be implementable, measurable, and provable for self-evaluation in each area, were drawn. The audit and certification toolkit developed by this research could be used by digital repositories to conduct periodical self-assessment of the organization, which would be used to supplement any found deficiencies and be used to reflect the organizational development strategy.

  • Recent massive data generation by genomics and proteomics requires bioinformatic tools to extract the biological meaning from the massive results. Here we introduce ROSPath, a database system to deal with information on reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated cell signaling pathways. It provides a structured repository for handling pathway related data and tools for querying, displaying, and analyzing pathways. ROSPath data model provides the extensibility for representing incomplete knowledge and the accessibility for linking the existing biochemical databases via the Internet. For flexibility and efficient retrieval, hierarchically structured data model is defined by using the object-oriented model. There are two major data types in ROSPath data model: ‘bio entity’ and ‘interaction’. Bio entity represents a single biochemical entity: a protein or protein state involved in ROS cell-signaling pathways. Interaction, characterized by a list of inputs and outputs, describes various types of relationship among bio entities. Typical interactions are protein state transitions, chemical reactions, and protein-protein interactions. A complex network can be constructed from ROSPath data model and thus provides a foundation for describing and analyzing various biochemical processes.

  • In 2002, the 5-day workweek policy was effective in Korea. As we have expected, the 5-day workweek policy has changed people's travel behavior during weekdays and weekends. Several studies have been done to understand these changes and impacts on transportation systems. However, these studies have only focused on travel pattern changes without considering spatial factors. Said in another way, although individual travel pattern changes are usually investigated, indices adopted cannot describe travel pattern changes in a proper way due to lack of the spatial distribution measure. This study aims to analyze travel change since the 5-day work week policy in effect using a new index (i.e. Travel Vector Index) developed in this study, which can explain travel pattern changes in terms of magnitude and spatial point of views. The new index uses a GIS technology and TCS (Toll Collection System) databases in Korea. The results in this study show that the index is very useful and reliable to measure the travel patterns changes. They are applied to TCS data set and the results show that the 5-day workweek policy significantly affects on travel behaviors.

  • It is very difficult assignment that grasp three-dimensional real life in Web base network environment. But, the recent simulation tools embody third dimension elements within 2 dimensions screen that is limited through third dimension implementation technology. Many GIS tools are offering excellent functions for third dimension data creation. But, research about design of third dimension GIS that use virtual reality technique in Web environment is status that is unprepared. So, in this research embodied third dimension topography map using virtual reality modelling language to produce active third dimension VR map that can supply visual information for direction, visual point that want in World Wide Web without support of expensive Map exclusive use program. And these 3D Web-Map is thought that possibility is enough as next generation map medium.
