  • The right to be forgotten is a world-wide issue after the decision of the European Court of Justice which accepted that right. This essay discusses about the guide lines for protecting the right to delete, a category of the right to be forgotten. I classified those guide lines as follows : (1) sensitiveness of the personal information, (2) offensiveness to reasonable and ordinary people, (3) intention of writing the article, (4) value of historical record, (5) importance of privacy comparing with right to know with time flow, (6) public figure, (7) article based on fact or opinion. To effectively protect right to be forgotten and delete, we have to consider Privacy Impact Assessment, using blind system, unification of multiple institutions, and reforming press arbitration system.

  • This study examined the application of the FRBR model to newspapers and news articles. In order to meet the purpose that was mentioned above, we analyzed data items based on the level of newspapers and articles and discussed how the FRBR model may be applied. In terms of the level of a newspaper, each of newspapers, morning/evening paper, issue and edition are regarded as an individual work, and the relationship among them are considered to be the 'whole-part relationship'. Each article on the level of article basis was considered to be a work and was in a relationship of 'whole-part relationship' with the edition of each level of newspapers. Newspaper articles can be represented as texts, photographs, graphics, and tables, etc., and regarded as an individual work. Each work can be a part of the article on a newspaper or can be an independent article itself. Moreover, a uniform heading of each boxed article and running story is included in the work of each article and is forming a 'whole-part relationship'. Because of the changes of the newspaper name, the uniform title of each name regarded as a single binding. It is called the superwork and it is forming 'whole-part relationship' with each name.

  • This study aims to examine the trend and characteristics of newspaper articles concerned with fine particle matter. Newspaper articles since 1995 collected from Bigkinds were analyzed using text mining techniques, sentiment analysis and regression analysis. Air pollution measurement and domestic pollutants appeared frequently previously, but "China" became the keyword in the 2010s along with political action, the effects on the health, AD/PR, and domestic pollutants. Korea JoongAng Daily, Hankyoreh and Kyunghyang Shinmun have had more focused on political regulations whereas most regional daily newspapers on emission sources and reduction measures at the regional level. The results of this study are expected to be used as a reference for understanding the trend of newspaper articles. Future work includes further analysis and discussion of fine particle pollution condition and news reports in the post-COVID era.

  • What is an appropriate length of an article in the mobile era producing new tastes of contents combining computing and mobile communication? Is it still valid to have a lengthy article as high level journalism even in the mobile era? Is there any possibility to have a short article combination to give us readability and the amount of information? This study aims to find some answers to these questions. The length of articles were controlled with a field experiment; from an article of 346 syllables(including spaces between syllables) which does not need finger scrolling on a mobile phone to articles of 633, 1033, 1368 syllables(including spaces between syllables) which frequently appear in newspapers and broadcasting news program. All the main themes were same for 4 articles which have different length. Three hundred and eighty four students viewed one of the 4 articles through mobile phone or newspaper. Each participant checked their preference and evaluated quality on the article, were asked to recall contents of the article. In newspaper group, articles with 346 or 1033 syllables were highly evaluated. Mobile group seemed to prefer articles of 346 or 633 syllables. In conclusion, we need to consider various strategies shortening the length of an article into 346 or 633 syllables as a basic format to meet the neEds of mobile era.

For the research, Chosun Ilbo, Hankyoreh Shinmun, The New York Times and The San Francisco Chronicles are selected. • This study investigated news comprehension via the social media by comparing the reading of a news story on the news paper. A news story on the social media was suggested to present information in a conversational form, which differs from a traditional reporting style. To compare the different forms of news information presentation, two conditions were created: in a control condition, a news story was written in a traditional reporting form. In the experimental condition, the same news story was constructed in a conversational form. Participants were assigned randomly in one of two conditions. They read the news story and afterwards, they were asked to recall firstly, the core idea of the news story, secondly the whole news story, and finally to answer to the 10 questions that assessed how well they learned from the news story. Participants' responses were content-analyzed and produced six variables, the extent to recall the core idea, the extent to recall the whole story, the extent to recall wrong information, the extent to recall additional information, the extent to recall causally related contents in general, and finally the extent to recall causally related contents in story-specific. Analyses on the six variables revealed that the group in the news paper condition recalled more core idea, the whole story, and additional information than the group in the social media. But the news paper condition recalled less of wrong information than the group in the social media condition. Additionally, the news paper condition learned more than the group in the social media. Regarding the recall of causally related contents, the general causal relationships were recalled more in the group in the social media condition but the story specific causal relationships were recalled more in the group in the news paper condition. The findings seemingly indicated that a traditional news reporting contributes to news story comprehension more than the conversational form. Authors however added discussions and advised that the findings needed to be read under caution.

  • Thanks to web development today, we can easily access online news via various media. As much as it is easy to access online news, we often face fake news pretending to be true. As fake news items have become a global problem, fact-checking services are provided domestically, too. However, these are based on expert-based manual detection, and research to provide technologies that automate the detection of fake news is being actively conducted. As for the existing research, detection is made available based on contextual characteristics of an article and the comparison of a title and the main article. However, there is a limit to such an attempt making detection difficult when manipulation precision has become high. Therefore, this study suggests using a verifying article to decide whether a news item is genuine or not to be affected by article manipulation. Also, to improve the precision of fake news detection, the study added a process to summarize a subject article and a verifying article through the summarization model. In order to verify the suggested algorithm, this study conducted verification for summarization method of documents, verification for search method of verification articles, and verification for the precision of fake news detection in the finally suggested algorithm. The algorithm suggested in this study can be helpful to identify the truth of an article before it is applied to media sources and made available online via various media sources.
