Tour Program in Archives: Case Study for the Presidential Archives (기록관의 견학 프로그램 - 대통령기록관을 사례로 -)

  • Archives should promote services to users using various outreach service methods. Although the archives' tour program is one of the effective means of services, there has been few studies on the archival tour program. This study investigated archival tour programs and tried to suggest a desirable tour program, with the Korean Presidential Archives as a case. For this study, four U.S. Presidential Libraries' tour programs were investigated and analyzed. Also, tour programs offered in similar organizations in Korea, such as Kim Daejung Library, Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and National Library of Korea, were analyzed. Current tour programs offered by the Korean Presidential Archives were also analyzed and some limitations were identified. Based on the characteristics of the Korean Presidential Archives, which will be moved to independent building in Sejong City soon, desirable direction to organize tour programs for various user groups were suggested.

User Information Needs Analysis based on Search Terms Log of the Presidential Archives Portal (대통령기록포털 검색어 로그 분석 기반 이용자 정보요구 분석)

  • In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the importance of curation services that analyze user information requests to provide tailored information within extensive information resources. This study aims to identify user information needs by analyzing search term logs from the Presidential Archives Portal to enhance the utilization value of presidential records, which possess high historical significance. In addition, by evaluating the portal's search performance, this study seeks to determine whether the Presidential Archives Portal is providing archival information services that meet users' information needs and to suggest areas for improvement through digital record curation services. To achieve these objectives, topic analysis and word network analysis were conducted based on search term logs spanning the past eight years. The search quality of the Presidential Archives Portal was evaluated from an accuracy perspective, focusing on areas with high user demand, and recommendations were drawn based on the results of the analysis. As a preliminary study for digital record curation of presidential records, this study is significant because it identifies specific user information needs and quantifies the search quality of archival portal sites to improve user satisfaction.

A Study on Users' Perception of Reference Services in National Archives of Korea (국가기록원 기록정보서비스에 대한 이용자 인식에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated the perception and experience of users who visited in Seoul office of the National Archives, a branch of the National Archives of Korea(NAK). For collecting data, the study utilized the Researcher Survey Toolkit developed by Archival Metrics Project and revised the questionnaire to reflect services of NAK. Questionnaires completed by 47 users were collected and analyzed, and interviews with one survey respondent and two staff were performed. It was found that the purpose of the visit is mostly to identify records that prove land ownership of users' ancestors. Types of records frequently used were also those concerning lands and forests. User feedback on the staff was generally positive, and users perceived them to be helpful and kind. However, there was an opinion that the staff did not provide accurate information about whether NAK hold records that the user wanted to find. The staff also said that it was challenging to confirm where requested records are located when providing services for users. User evaluation on the usefulness and the ease of use of NAK portal services was not very positive, and it was perceived to be very inconvenient to search in the portal. Overall, users were satisfied with the services of NAK, although some users suggested that services need be provided efficiently, and NAK must clarify the criteria for the non-disclosure of public records.

Composition and Development of Archival Content Service for Teaching-learning Materials (교수·학습자료용 기록정보 콘텐츠 서비스의 구성 및 개발)

  • Nowadays Korean main archives and manuscript repositories are planning to develop archival information service for students and teachers in their web sites. This study is aimed at discovering main issues of developing archival information service for students and teachers and finding a solution. The goal of archival information service for students and teachers is the promotion of use through launching service and the gradual growth of archival management program. The customer group is segmented into the students and teachers who are learning and teaching Korean history in classroom. As a result of analyzing curriculum and educational environment, the archival information must be developed into teaching-learning materials. And the processing archival information into archival content is needed. Consequently the character of archival information service for students and teachers is conceptualized as archival content service for teaching-learning materials. At every step of developing archival content service for teaching-learning materials, the next main points are considered and achieved. First, the strategy of customer-focused service must be the same from beginning to end. Second, the growth of traditional archival management(e.g. classification, description and finding aids) must be contributed. Third, the collaboration system leading by professional education staff must be organized. Fourth, the archival information must be related with teaching-learning activities. Fifth, the quality of content is more important than the quantity of it. Sixth, the networking with another agencies for cooperation must be considered.

A Study on the Record Usage of the Internal Users of the Local Government in Seoul Metropolitan Area (수도권 기초자치단체 내부 이용자들의 기록 이용에 관한 연구)

  • This study recognized the public servants of the local governments as the principal users of the records centers. It also attempted to identify their records usage behavior and the requirements of record usage so that records and services that meet their needs as the main users would be met. Therefore, the researchers identified through an information disclosure request the highly ranked departments that use records more than the others based on their usage frequency of the records centers and the standard records management system (standard RMS) during the third quarter of 2017. A questionnaire survey was subsequently conducted to the public servants of the local governments in the metropolitan area. The questionnaire identified the users' opinion on general usage behavior, usage of standard RMS, and usage of the records center. Based on the survey results, improvements in the management of the records centers the record management system, and the record services of the local governments were suggested.

  • The Presidential Archives collects and manages both the presidential records and historical archives related to the president which it subsequent provides to the people. Regardless of these special duties that meet the people's right to know, its awareness and study on the Presidential Archives has not been thoroughly satisfied. It is time to focus on providing service to share and utilize records and archives, as well as for preservation and management purposes. Therefore, this study proposes exhibition methods through storytelling, which is well-known, as it pursues the importance of developing various services for a more efficient usage and promotion of the Presidential Archives. This helps raise awareness about the Presidential Archives, attract group visits of children, and provides a good example for collecting archives and planing exhibitions.

  • PDA나 핸드폰 같은 이동단말기기의 빠른 보급과 이동 네트웍 서비스의 증가로 다양한 컨텐츠가 제공되고 있다. 그러나 PDA 사용자는 현재의 서비스 보다 더욱 단순한 규칙과 쉬운 사용방법을 제공하고, 실생활에 빈 번히 적용되는 컨텐츠를 원한다. 본 논문에서는 클라이언트-서버 모델을 기반으로 이동 네트웍 환경에서 식당의 음식 메뉴를 주문 예약하고, 결제 내용을 확인하는 PDA를 위한 임베디드 소프트웨어 시스템 PDA-MENU 의 설계와 구현을 기술한다 이러한 PDA 시스템은 고객의 주문 상세내용 기록, 신속한 주문확인, 고객과의 결제를 통하여 서비스의 효율성을 높이고, 운영비의 감소를 지원할 수 있으며, 재고 관리 등에 활용할 수 있다.

  • 제안하는 서비스는 OCR(Optical Character Recognition, 광학문자인식)과 딥러닝 패턴분석 알고리즘을 활용하여 문서를 효율적으로 관리하는 서비스로 필기를 많이 하는 사용자를 위한 기능을 제공한다. 최근 다양한 분야에서의 머신러닝 기반의 OCR의 활용이 증가했지만 기존의 애플리케이션은 패턴 분석 알고리즘과 통계 기반의 OCR을 혼합하여 사용하기 때문에 필기체에 대한 인식률이 높지 않다. 이에 본 논문에서는 OCR과 패턴분석 알고리즘을 활용하여 필기체에 대한 높은 인식률을 제공하는 서비스를 제안한다.

  • 다양한 의료서비스를 정형화되고 효율적인 방법으로 제공하기 위하여 최근 의료기관의 EMR(Electronic Medical Record; 전자의무기록) 시스템의 도입이 급속도로 확산되고 있다. 그러나 국내에서 구축되고 있는 EMR은 초기에 기대했던 EMR의 도입목적을 중분하게 달성하지 못하고 있다. 이는 근본적으로 EMR의 방향성과 구조에 한계를 지니고 있기 때문이다. 국내에서 구축되고 있는 대부분의 전자의무기록시스템은 자료수집원 지향 의무기록 (Source Oriented Medical Record; SOMR) 방식으로 개별 사실을 수집하고 제시하기 위한 관찰자 중심, 서식중심의 시스템이며 차트 이송과 종이를 없애는 것이 주목적이다. SOMR 방식은 EMR의 다양한 도입목적, 특히 임상자료의 효과적 활용을 충족시킬 수 없는 태생적인 한계를 지니고 있기 때문에 문제지향 의무기록 (Problem Oriented Medical Record; POMR) 방식의 EMR과 적절한 혼용전략 (Hybrid Strategy)이 절실히 요구된다. 본 연구의 목적은 SOMR 시스템과 POMR 시스템이 보완적으로 결합된 하이브리드 EMR 아키텍처를 제시하고 아키텍처를 구성하는 데 필요한 기술적 요소들과 그들간의 상호관계 틀 파악한 후 이를 기반으로 개발방법론을 도출하는 것이다. 또한 만성신부전증 환자 사례를 이용하여 앞서 제시된 개발방법론에 따라 프로토타입을 개발하였다. 본 연구는 EMR 시스템이 SOMR 구조에만 편향됨으로써 발생될 수 있는 다양한 문제들을 해결함으로써 진료의 품질 항상, 임상연구의 활성화, 조직적이고 과학적인 진료계획의 수립과 같은 소외되어 왔던 EMR의 목표를 실현할 수 있을 것으로 기대 된다.
