Countries of the world are competing for the collection and utilization of genetic resources, which is a resource of value-added industrialization. We are building database of silkworm and mulberry resources with morphological, genetic characteristics data etc. Moreover, recent bioactive compound has been receiving increasing attention. So we analyzed 1-deoxynojirimycin(1-DNJ) content as a this item in addition to the basic information using 363 strains(varieties) of mulberry genetic resources. They were grown under the same environment and conditions. Mulberry leaves were collected and then freeze-dried and powdered for 1-DNJ test. As a result, 1-DNJ mean content of 363 mulberry strains was $0.176{\pm}0.077%$, and the coefficient of variation (CV) was 43.5%. The variation between the strains was greatly severe. Among the tested strains, 'C1D89/29' was showed the highest content of 0.47%, whereas 'Pumbo 24' and 'Turkey E' were showed the lowest content of 0.05% respectively. The content of 1-DNJ of 16 mulberry varieties for silkworm rearing were compared. Average concentration was $0.17{\pm}0.04%$, and the coefficient of variation (CV) was 22.8%. Variation among cultivars was not significant. Finally we selected 1-DNJ high-containing 11 strains. They are as follows. 'C1D89/29', 'Hiihak', 'Jeokasibmunja', 'Gweonchil', 'Botongsibmunja', 'Jeokchuk', 'bulguksang', 'Geunsookgojo', 'Busanggeum', 'Guksang 20' and 'Taekwang' which are more than twice of the overall average content.

The variation between the strains was greatly severe. Among the tested strains, 'Buyoungsang' was showed the highest content of 1.37%, whereas 'Cheongeunsipmunja' and 'Mujeonsipmunja' were showed the lowest content of 0.06% respectively. The content of rutin of 16 mulberry varieties for silkworm rearing were compared. 'Cheongolppong' was showed the highest content of 0.69%, whereas 'Cheongilppong' was showed the lowest content of 0.14 %. Finally we selected rutin high-containing 9 strains. They are as follows. 'Buyoungsang', 'Yeulbon', 'Dangsang 5', 'A8', 'Aja', 'Seongsu 5', 'Sawonppong 12', 'Hwanyoupjosaengnosang' and 'Hwansipjosaeng' which are more than twice of the overall average content.
A study was carried out to test sex ratio of the progeny that were induced by the artificial fertilization between normal female and gynogenetic diploid eggs and sex-reversed gynogenetic diploid male sperm. Sex reversed gynogenetic diploid males were produced successfully in gynogenetic diploid female by immersion treatment with $17{\alpha}$-methyltestosterone at the concentration of 10 pub from $13.5{\pm}0.22$ mm to $57.6{\pm}5.1$ mm in total length. In $F_1$ progeny test, matings between normal females and sex-reversed gynogenetic males were not produced all female, but matings between gynogenetic diploid females and sex-reversed gynogenetic males were produced all female populations in six out of eight groups and two lots produced $96.9\%$ and $95\%$ female. These data showed that all-female populations were produced by crossing between gynogenetic diploid female and sex reversed gynogenetic diploid male.

Dentinogenesis imperfecta is an example of an inheritable dentinal defect originating during the histodifferentiation stage of tooth development, with involvement of the primary and permanent teeth. Shields, Bixler and El-Kafrawy proposed three types of Dentinogenesis imperfecta : Type I, II, III. Witkop reported a prevalence of 1 in 8000 with the trait, and no significant difference between male and female. Affected teeth have red-brown discoloration often with distinctive wearness of occlusal surface of posterior teeth and incisal surface of anterior teeth. Once enamel seperated from underlying defective dentin, the dentin demonstrates significantly acclerated attrision. Radiographically, the teeth have thin roots, bulbous crown, cervical constriction, and obliteration of the root canals and pulp chambers. In primary dentition periapical lesions or multiple root fractures are often observed. In successive generations the phenotypes of discoloration and wearness of teeth occurred, and one of the patient's subships, 10 year-old sister, showed general discoloration of her teeth and mild wearness. In this case, a 4 year-old male reported to the Yonsei University Pedodontics clinic, with a chief complaint of discolored teeth. The teeth showed generally yellowish-brown discoloration and moderate wearness. In radiographic features, obliteration of pulp, bulbous crown, and short roots were observed. It was diagnosed as Dentinogenesis imperfecta. The posterior teeth were restored with Stainless Steel Crown, and defective incisors including left upper primary central incisor which was extracted due to a root fracture with Open-faced Stainless Steel crown.
New technologies will have a large impact on the discovery of new herbicide site of action. Genomics, combinatorial chemistry, and bioinformatics help take advantage of serendipity through tile sequencing of huge numbers of genes or the synthesis of large numbers of chemical compounds. There are approximately $10^{30}\;to\;10^{50}$ possible molecules in molecular space of which only a fraction have been synthesized. Combining this potential with having access to 50,000 plant genes in the future elevates tile probability of discovering flew herbicidal site of actions. If 0.1, 1.0 or 10% of total genes in a typical plant are valid for herbicide target, a plant with 50,000 genes would provide about 50, 500, and 5,000 targets, respectively. However, only 11 herbicide targets have been identified and commercialized. The successful design of novel herbicides depends on careful consideration of a number of factors including target enzyme selections and validations, inhibitor designs, and the metabolic fates. Biochemical information can be used to identify enzymes which produce lethal phenotypes. The identification of a lethal target site is an important step to this approach. An examination of the characteristics of known targets provides of crucial insight as to the definition of a lethal target. Recently, antisense RNA suppression of an enzyme translation has been used to determine the genes required for toxicity and offers a strategy for identifying lethal target sites. After the identification of a lethal target, detailed knowledge such as the enzyme kinetics and the protein structure may be used to design potent inhibitors. Various types of inhibitors may be designed for a given enzyme. Strategies for the selection of new enzyme targets giving the desired physiological response upon partial inhibition include identification of chemical leads, lethal mutants and the use of antisense technology. Enzyme inhibitors having agrochemical utility can be categorized into six major groups: ground-state analogues, group specific reagents, affinity labels, suicide substrates, reaction intermediate analogues, and extraneous site inhibitors. In this review, examples of each category, and their advantages and disadvantages, will be discussed. The target identification and construction of a potent inhibitor, in itself, may not lead to develop an effective herbicide. The desired in vivo activity, uptake and translocation, and metabolism of the inhibitor should be studied in detail to assess the full potential of the target. Strategies for delivery of the compound to the target enzyme and avoidance of premature detoxification may include a proherbicidal approach, especially when inhibitors are highly charged or when selective detoxification or activation can be exploited. Utilization of differences in detoxification or activation between weeds and crops may lead to enhance selectivity. Without a full appreciation of each of these facets of herbicide design, the chances for success with the target or enzyme-driven approach are reduced.

Many constructed wetlands have been installed in dam reservoirs nationwide for ecological purification of watershed pollutants, but aging and reduced efficiency are becoming issues. To improve the management of constructed wetlands, an objective evaluation of structural suitability is required. This study evaluated 39 constructed wetlands of 15 dams. First, through fogus group interview(FGI), survey analysis, and analytic hierarchy process(AHP), eight evaluation items in the physical and vegetative aspects were selected and the evaluation criteria applied with weights were prepared. Second, as a result of the structural suitability evaluation, the average score of the overall constructed wetlands was 80.8, with 10 sites rated as 'good grade(91~100)', 22 sites rated as 'normal grade(71~90)' and 7 sites rated as 'poor grade(70 or less)'. The average score of physical structure evaluation was 52.6, with 14 sites rated as 'good', 21 sites as 'normal' and 4 sites as 'poor'. The suitability of location was good level in most constructed wetlands, but the water supply system, depth of water, ratio of length-to-width, and slope of flow channel were evaluated as 'normal' or less in constructed wetlands of 50% or more. Therefore, it was found that overall improvement was necessary for stable flow supply and flow improvement in the constructed wetland. The average score of vegetative structure evaluation was 28.2, and about 84% of them were identified as 'normal' or lower. As a result of analyzing the Spearman's correlation coefficient between the physical structure evaluation score and the vegetation structure evaluation score, there was a significant correlation(r = 0.728, p < 0.001), and it was found that each evaluation factor also influences each other. As a result of the case review of 6 constructed wetlands, the appropriateness of the evaluation results was confirmed, and it was found that the location, flow rate supply, and type of wetland had a great influence on the efficiency and operation of the wetland. Through this study, it will be possible to derive structural weaknesses of constructed wetlands in dam reservoirs as a nature-based solution, to prepare types and practical alternatives for improved management of each constructed wetland in the future, and to contribute to enhancing various environmental functions.
Eggs are an important source of protein for the human diet. Consumers want fresher, more delicious and more sanitary eggs. In Korea, the Shell Egg Grading system (EGS) was employed in 2001. The portion of graded shell eggs has increased every year, but graded shell eggs account for only 6% of all eggs. The EGS should satisfy producers, distributors and consumers. However, the EGS does not have an official function because of many problems. Consumers cannot select various graded shell eggs in the market, and producers do not receive enough profit even though they produce top-quality graded shell eggs. There are few studies on the EGS, Therefore, this study was performed to improve the EGS. We surveyed the EGS, GP Centers and farmers. Large companies (farmers) are more satisfied than small companies with the EGS. There was a high tendency for the companies (farmers) that are not involved with the EGS to think that graded and ungraded shell eggs are similar, in contrast to the companies (farmers) connected to the EGS. We should have to change the grading system of grade shell eggs, establish of the cold chain system, change of the law for the school meals, minimize payment for the grading shell eggs for developing EGS. Based on this study, the egg industry can benefit through the improvement of the EGS.

This study analyzed the phenotypes and chemotypes of 74 tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) germplasms using principal component analysis and cluster analysis. The average seed size of tartary buckwheat germplasm was 5.2 × 3.4 mm, which is smaller than the seed size of common buckwheat. The dark browned colored ovate or elliptic shape was mostly observed in collected germplasm. The average content of rutin was 1,393 mg per 100 g dry weight (DW) in tartary buckwheat seed. Similarly, the flavonoid and polyphenol contents ranged from 253 to 2,669 and 209 to 1,823 mg, respectively, per 100 g DW in the collected germplasm. The three components (PC1, 2, and 3) of principal component analysis revealed 68.55% of the total variance of the collected accessions. Cluster analysis using descriptors showed that 74 accessions were clustered into five groups. The study showed that the most interesting resources for functional breeding programs are: Five resources (HLB1004, HLB1005, HLB1007, HLB1009, and HLB1013) due to the rich rutin, polyphenol, and flavonoid.

Perilla is an annual plant in the family Lamiaceae and are widely cultivated in Asian countries. Perilla leaves are important sources of bioactive compounds and are reported to exhibit anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-cancer and antioxidant effects, drawing attention as functional food materials. We examined caffeic acid, rosmarinic acid, total phenol content, and antioxidant activity in the leaves of 18 perilla accessions obtained from the gene bank of the National Agrobiodiversity Center, Jeonju, Korea. The caffeic acid content ranged between 9.86-27.52 mg/g with an average content of 17.75 mg/g while the level of. rosmarinic acid was in the range between 49.14 and 90.30 mg/g with an average content of 61.88 mg/g. The total polyphenol content ranged between 138.39 ㎍ GAE/mg dried extract (DE) and 378.19 ㎍ GAE/mg DE with an average content of 225.93 ㎍ GAE/mg DE. Cluster analysis based on the content of caffeic acid, rosmarinic acid. and antioxidant activity showed that the accessions collections were grouped in two distinct classes. The first group contained six genetic resources with high content of rosmarinic acid, and antioxidant activities respectively. The second group contained 12 genetic resources with high content of caffeic acid. These results could help develop new varieties of nutrient dense perilla resources.

This study explores how the teaching practices of two teachers changed during scientific modeling classes. It also aims to understand these changes in terms of the teachers' modeling pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) development. The study participants were two elementary school teachers and their fifth-grade students. The teachers taught eight lessons of scientific modeling classes about the human body. The data analysis was conducted for lessons 1-2 and 7-8, which best showed the change in teaching practice. The two teachers' teaching practices were analyzed in terms of feedback frequency, feedback content, and the time allocated for each stage of model generation, evaluation, and modification. Teacher A led the evaluation and modification stages in a teacher-driven way throughout the classes. In terms of feedback, teacher A mainly used answer evaluation feedback in lesson 1-2; however, in lesson 7-8, the feedback content changed to thought-provoking feedback. Meanwhile, teacher B mostly led a teacher-driven model evaluation and modification in lesson 1-2; however, in lesson 7-8, she let her students lead the model evaluation and modification stages and helped them develop models through various feedbacks. The analysis shows that these teaching changes were related to the development of modeling PCK components. Furthermore, the two teachers' modeling PCK differed in teaching orientation, in understanding the modeling stages, and in recognizing the value of modeling, suggesting the importance of these in modeling teaching practice. This study can help improve the understanding of modeling classes by revealing the relationship between teaching practices and modeling PCK.
