Mechanical Properties and Formability of TWB Boron Steel (TWB 보론강의 기계적 특성 및 성형성)

  • The hot-stamping technique is a forming method used for manufacturing high-strength parts, in which a part is cooled rapidly after press forming above the austenite transformation temperature. Boron steel, which contains a very small amount of boron, is one of the materials used for hot stamping. The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical properties of boron steel according to the heat-treatment conditions and the formability by using an Erichsen cupping test. Die quenching from various temperatures was conducted for different elapsed heat-treatment times. Laser-welded boron steel after quenching at 1173 K-0 s has a tensile strength of 1203 MPa. This is 79% of the tensile strength of the base metal (1522 MPa). The formability of boron steel was not significantly different from that at the mold temperature. However, it decreased with increasing forming speed. These properties provide practical information for the use of boron steels for hot stamping.

  • For manufacturing modern cars, so-called multi-materials, such as aluminum alloy with high-strength steels, are used. For obtaining such materials, a new joining method is required to achieve the multi-material design. Mechanical clinching is one of joining methods used to join the dissimilar materials. The objective of this study is to investigate the characteristics of mechanical clinching of Al5052 alloy to high-strength steels (SPFC440, 590, 780). Using FE-analysis and clinching experiment, the joinability of Al5052 alloy to high-strength steel is evaluated by geometrical shape of mechanical clinched joint, such as neck-thickness and undercut. Further, the joint strength is evaluated by performing a single-lap shear test. The upper high-strength steel SPFC780 was not clinched because of the necking of the upper sheet. The joint strength increased with increasing strength of the upper sheet. For the lower high-strength steel sheet, the joinability and joint strength decreased with increasing strength of the lower sheet.

  • The mechanical etching technique has recently been developed to a powder blasting technique for various materials, capable of producing micro structures larger than 100$\mu$ m. This paper describes the performance of powder blasting technique in micro-pocketing of stainless steel and the effect of the number of nozzle scanning and the nozzle height on the depth and width of pockets. Experimental results showed that increasing the no. of nozzle scanning and decreasing the nozzle height resulted in the increase of depth and width in pockets. Increase of width results from wear of mask film.

  • In the present study, a new method of generating boundary-fitted coordinates systems controlled by control function is introduced. Application of the method to a three-dimensional simply-connected region is the demonstrated. The numerical grid generation has following feat ures, (a) The generated boundary fitted coordinates is well concentrated in near wall region and satisfied orthogonality, (b) The grid control function is fully automatic and well controlled in sharp convex boundary.

  • In analyzing the axisymmetric backward extrusion process a new method of analysis using upper-bound theorem is proposed in which the plastic zone and dead metal zone cam be predicted. Experiments are carried out with commercial aluminum. The metal flow on the meridional plane has been visualized experimentally by using the gridded specimens. It is shown that the theoretical results both in extrusion load and deformation pattern are in good agreement with the experimental results and they can be used for effective punch and die design to consider various process parameters in axisymmetric backward extrusion.

  • The improvement of surface roughness of machined cylindrical rods through the plastic polishing process was studied in this paper. The criterion and limits for the plastic polishing process due to the wave motion of the ridge were established with respect to process variables: ridge shape and size, semi-cone die angle as well as friction factor, by the application of the upper-bound approach. The surface roughness of the plastic polished products was measured, and compared with that of the original specimen. Also the depth of the surface deformation layer was tested, and compared those of the theoretical values. Qualitative agreement exists between the experimental plastic polishing loads and theoretical loads. The wave motion of the ridge was mostly occurred within the established limits. The surface roughness of specimens was sufficiently improved through the present process. Also the predicted depth of the surface deformation layer was in good agreement with experimental results.

  • A computer aided design package is developed that can perform such functions as computer aided inputing/drafting/modifying/outputing, automatic determination of volumetric properties, finite element analysis and post processing for the design of axisymmetric shell with slight asymmetry. In order to make the design modification easy and to accelerate the computation time for analysis, developed is a new finite element analysis which utilizes an approximate solution method and a conical ring eleement with slight asymmetry. Also proposed is a computer aided process planning algorithm which is based on the axiomatic approach.

  • 박(朴)(1982, 1983, 1984 및 1985)이 개발(開發)한 배합사료공장(配合飼料工場)의 투자비용(投資費用) 및 운전비용(運轉費用)의 수학적모형(數學的模型)을 이용(利用)하여, 배합사료공장(配合飼料工場)의 적정(適正) 시스템의 설계(設計)를 예(例)를 들어 소개하였다. 적정(適正)시스템의 설계(設計)를 위(爲)하여 비선형(非線型) 프로그램의 "Single Objective Programming Problem(단일목적함수(單一目的函數))"와 "'Multiple Objective Decision Making Method(다목적함수(多目的函數))"의 2가지 방법(方法)을 적용(適用)하였다. Single Objective Programming Problem에서는 "Generalized Reduced Gradient(GRG) Method"를 이용(利用)하였고, Multiple Objective Decision Making Method(MODM)에서는 "Interactive Nonlinear Goal Program(INGP)"를 이용(利用)하였으며 그 결과(結果)는 다음의 몇가지로 요약(要約)할 수 있다. 1. 박(朴)이 개발(閒發)한 수학적(數學的) 모형(模型)들은 2 가지 방법(方法) 모두 사료공장(飼料工場)의 최적화(最適化) 설계(設計)에 효과적으로 이용(利用)할 수가 있었다. 2. MODM방법(方法)에 의(依)하여 얻어진 최적(最適)시스템은 Single Objective Program Problem에서 구(求)한 결과(結果)보다 균형(均衡)이 있는 시스템이었으며 장래(將來)의 사료원료(飼料原料), 사료구매시장(飼料購買市場), 기타 다른 조건(條件)들의 변화)에 대(對)해서 보다 탄력(彈力)이 있는 시스템으로 나타났다. 3. 엄밀한 의미(意味)에서 절대적(絶對的)인 최적사료공장(最適飼料工場)이란 있을 수 없으며, 주위의 조건(條件), 원료가격(原料價格), 사료가격(飼料價格), 공장주(工場主)의 취향 및 설계조건등(設計條件等)에 따라 최적(最適) 시스템은 각각(各各) 다르게 나타난다.

Analysis of Mateiral Flow in Metal Forming Processes by Using Computer Simulation and Experiment with Model Material (소성가공시 재료유동에 대한 수치해석 및 모델실험)

  • The objective of the present study is to analyze material flow in the metal forming processes by using computer simulation and experiment with model material, plasticine. A UBET program is developed to analyze the bulk flow behaviour of various metal forming problems. The elemental strain-hardening effect is considered in an incremental manner and the element system is automatically regenerated at every deforming step in the program. The material flow behavior in closed-die forging process with rib-web type cavity are analyzed by UBET and elastic-plastic finite element method, and verified by experiments with plasticine. There were good agreements between simulation and experiment. The effect of corner rounding on material flow behavior is investigated in the analysis of backward extrusion with square die. Flat punch indentation process is simulated by UBET, and the results are compared with that of elastic-plastic finite element method.

Hybrid UV Lithography for 3D High-Aspect-Ratio Microstructures (하이브리드 자외선 노광법을 이용한 3차원 고종횡비 미소구조물 제작)

  • Three-dimensional (3D) high-aspect-ratio (HAR) microstructures for biomedical applications (e.g., microneedle, microadhesive, etc.) are microfabricated using the hybrid ultraviolet (UV) lithography in which inclined, rotational, and reverse-side UV exposure processes are combined together. The inclined and rotational UV exposure processes are intended to fabricate tapered axisymmetric HAR microstructures; the reverse-side UV exposure process is designed to sharpen the end tip of the microstructures by suppressing the UV reflection on a bottom substrate which is inevitable in conventional UV lithography. Hybrid UV lithography involves fabricating 3D HAR microstructures with an epoxy-based negative photoresist, SU-8, using our customized UV exposure system. The effects of hybrid UV lithography parameters on the geometry of the 3D HAR microstructures (aspect ratio, radius of curvature of the end tip, etc.) are measured. The dependence of the end-tip shape on SU-8 soft-baking condition is also discussed.
