Graphene has recently received high attention as a promising material for various applications, and many related studies have been undertaken to reveal its basic mechanical properties. However, the tribological properties of graphene film fabricated by the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method are barely known. In this study, the contact angle and frictional wear characteristics of graphene coated copper film were investigated under room temperature, normal air pressure, and no lubrication condition. The contact angle was measured by sessile drop method and the wear test was carried out under normal loads of 660 mN and 2940 mN, respectively. The tribological behaviors of a graphene coating layer were also examined. Compared to heat treated bare copper foil, the graphene coated one shows a higher contact angle and lower friction coefficient.

Oil contained in domestic and industrial wastewater or marine spilled oil gives rise to severe environmental pollution issues such as water pollution and ecosystem destruction. The membrane filtration method as one of representative oil/water separation strategies has technological challenges such as membrane fouling and low separation rate. In this work, we devise a 3D-printed microhydrocyclone for oil/water separation by utilizing a digital lighting processing-based 3D printer. We demonstrate that the 3D-printed microhydrocyclone can effectively separate oil and water phases from oil-in-water emulsion.

Mobile robots are effectively used in industrial fields that require flexible manufacturing systems. Mobile robots have to move with mechanical loads such as product parts along the specified paths, and are usually equipped with kinematic controllers. When the loads and nonlinear frictions are too high, satisfactory control performances can not be expected with the kinematic controllers, so some dynamic controllers have been developed. Conventional dynamic controllers require the exact weights and locations of the loads; however, the loads are frequently changed and unknown so that the control performances of the conventional controllers are limited. This paper proposes an adaptive PD control method using gradient descent learning to have sufficient dynamic control performance for unknown loads. Simulation studies have been conducted for various load conditions to verify that the adaptive PD control method have much broader convergence region than the convention method.

In this paper, the total procedure for composite laminate mechanical joint (ASTM D5961 Proc. A, B) from fixture design to test analysis was showed. Composite laminate mechanical joints were analyzed using the FEM(Finite Element Method) and compared to test results. A progressive failure analysis was applied to FEM to analyze the failure behavior of test specimens. Three failure theories - maximum stress, maximum strain, and Tsai-Wu were applied to FEM to predict test failure load. General parameters for composite laminate joints were reviewed and the differences of bearing strength were compared with major parameters.
