  • In this paper, the planar waveguide slotted array antenna is presented, which has the 3-layered structure of feeding networks for a high gain. Due to the ionosphere which generates 'Faraday rotation', the skew is happened between the signal radiated from an artificial satellite and the receiving antenna. This causes a polarization loss. In this paper, to remove this polarization loss, the dumbbell shaped linear polarizer using a single layer film is proposed. The gain of proposed antenna is 29.4dB.

  • In this paper, a dual-fed small ICS repeater antenna with high isolation is designed, fabricated, and measured. Bandwidth and gain are optimized by changing the stub lengths near main patch and power divider, and also by changing the size of parasitic patch. To improve the isolation characteristic of the antenna, a dual-feeding method is applied in designing the antenna. The fabricated antenna has a VSWR less than 2, a gain over 7 dBi, and an isolation between the donor and the server antennas less than -65 dB from 1,920~2,170 MHz for 3G mobile communication.

In stead of the microstrip patch array antenna having a dielectric loss and a feeding loss, the proposed antenna has the 3-layered waveguide feeding network structure for assembling easily. Also this antenna can receive mechanically both RHCP and LHCP transmitted from a satellite using a polarizer made from a thin single layer film. The Gain of the proposed 4X8 array antenna is 27.5dB and the gain of 8X16 array antenna is 32dB.

  • This paper describes a design for the circularly polarized microstrip EMC cross dipole array antenna with the wide bandwidth. To realize the characteristics of wide bandwidth and circular polarization, the electromagnetic-coupled cross dipole element is proposed. The optimum design parameters of a circularly polarized EMC cross dipole element are calculated by the FDTD and the Ensemble. To obtain the uniform aperture illumination of electric field in an array, offset technique that the cross dipole elements are alternatively arranged on center of the microstrip feed line is adopted. In 20-element array design, the calculated axial ratio and gain are about 0.1dB and 9.9 dBi at 12 GHz, respectively, The frequency characteristics of a fabricated 20-element array antenna are measured. The calculated results agree well with the measured ones.

  • This paper presents a capacitor loaded tunable bandpass chip filter using multiple split ring resonators (MSRRs) with two transmission zeros. To obtain high selectivity and minimize the chip size, asymmetric feed lines are adopted to make a pair of transmission zeros located on each side of passband. Compared with conventional filters using cross-coupling or source-load coupling techniques, the proposed filter uses only two resonators to achieve high selectivity through a pair of transmission zeros. In order to optimize selectivity and sensitivity (insertion loss) of the filter, the effect of the position of asymmetric feed line on transmission zeros and insertion loss is analyzed. The SOI-CMOS switched capacitor composed of metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitor and stacked-FETs is loaded at outer rings of MSRRs to tune passband frequency and handle high power signal up to +30 dBm. By turning on or off the gate of the transistors, the passband frequency can be shifted from 4GH to 5GHz. The proposed on-chip filter is implemented in 0.18-${\mu}m$ SOI CMOS technology that makes it possible to integrate high-Q passive devices and stacked-FETs. The designed filter shows miniaturized size of only $4mm{\times}2mm$ (i.e., $0.177{\lambda}g{\times}0.088{\lambda}g$), where ${\lambda}g$ denotes the guided wave length of the $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line at center frequency. The measured insertion loss (S21)is about 5.1dB and 6.9dB at 5.4GHz and 4.5GHz, respectively. The designed filter shows out-of-band rejection greater than 20dB at 500MHz offset from center frequency.

  • In this paper, the design and the fabrication of dual bandpass filter using heterogeneous resonators is presented. Each resonator would not have an effect on each resonant frequency. Two types of resonators are designed to have different fundamental resonant frequencies, one for the lower passband and the other for the upper passband. In the lower band, half and quarter wavelength resonators were used. In the upper band, a dual-mode resonator was used for adjusting bandwidth. In the upper pass band frequency, resonators of lower passband acts as the input and output. For WLAN, Proposed filters with different second passband frequencies at 2.45/5.2 GHz and 2.45/5.8 GHz are designed and fabricated.

  • In this paper, a compact rectenna system is designed using a circular sector antenna with harmonic-rejecting characteristics and a direct impedance matching method. The system is designed with bandpass filtering performed by the harmonic-rejection of the circular sector antenna and without impedance matching circuit for the diodes by the direct impedance matching technique. Therefore, while the rectifying circuit of the proposed system can be implemented without a bandpass filter and a impedance matching circuit, it is integrated on the back side of the antenna using precise fabrication techniques for coaxial feedings without degrading the system performances corresponding to the feeding points. From the experimental results, the optimized rectenna system has presented excellent performances of a conversion efficiency of more than 52 % and a conversion voltages of more than 1.5 V at 2.5 GHz.

  • Leaky wave radiation and surface wave launching problems in a dielectrically covered and periodically slitted parallel-plate waveguide(PPW) are considered for the TEM wave incidence case. Both the infinite and finite periodic geometries are analyzed by use of the method of moments. Some numerical results for the reflected and transmitted powers in the PPW, radiation efficiency into the free space, surface wave launching efficiency into the slab, antenna gain, and radiation patterns against dielectric thickness are presented to show the effect of the dielectric cover on the performances of the slitted leaky wave antenna. In addition, the method for improving surface wave launching efficiency using the proposed periodic geometry is described and maximum launching efficiency of 97.5% is obtained theoretically. So this structure is thought to be promising as an efficient feeder of dielectric grating antenna as well as image guide.
