It was attempted in the present study to determind the effect of Korean ginseng on acute viral(B type) hepatitis by double blind test clinically and the results were as follows. 1. The double blind test of 4 week period showed no statistical significance of the effect of ginseng on the disease. 2. The double blind test of 2 week period, however, showed a significant effect in such clinical symptoms as appetite, stomach ache, headache, chillness dizziness, nausea and vomitting, stool habit change and jaundice. Improvement of the blood serum level of transaminases, bilirubin. alkaline phosphatase and cholesterol Chillness feeding period was observed.

후천성 면역결핍증(AIDS)이 전 세계적으로 문제가 된 질병으로 인식된 이래 AIDS의 치료를 위한 새로운 치료제의 개발이 전 세계적으로 중요한 목표가 되어 왔다. 수많은 개발된 물질 중에서 lymphocytes와 macrophage에서의 면역결핍성 바이러스(HIV)에 의한 급성간염을 억제하거나 제거하는데 있어 뉴크레오사이드 유도체들이 아주 중요한 역할을 해오고 있다. 지금까지 개발된 새로운 뉴크레오사이드 유도체중에서 현재 4종류의 뉴크레오사이드 유도체가 FDA에 꼭해 공인이 되어 AIDS환자의 치료에 사용되고 있다.

Pleural effusion represents a rare complication of acute hepatitis A infection. Twelve year-old girl was admitted with complaints of general weakness, nausea and icteric sclerae. She also complained of right chest pain. Right decubitus view of chest radiograph showed pleural fluid accumulation. Laboratory findings were as follows: AST/ALT 1692/1970 IU/L, total/direct bilirubin 4.48/3.66 mg/dL and HA IgM Ab (+). On the seventh day of hospitalization, her general condition was much improved and chest radiography showed resolved pleural effusion.

The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effectiveness of Korean medicine, especially Galhwahajung-tang and Yijintang-gamibang on patient with acute alcoholic hepatitis and renal dysfunction. The patient in this case had suffered from pantalgia and dizziness with nausea. He was diagnosed as acute alcoholic hepatitis. Based on related symptoms and blood-test, we could diagnose acute alcoholic hepatitis. We treated him with Korean medicine, involving herbal decoction, acupuncture, moxibustion and cupping. We used visual analogue scale and blood-test for assessment. After 31 days of treatment, the pantalgia and dizziness with nausea were disappeared and liver function test was in the normal range. According to this study, Korean medicine, including Galhwahajung-tang and Yijintang-gamibang are an effective treatment for the cure of acute alcoholic hepatitis with renal dysfunction which occurs on crapulence.

Acute liver failure is a devastating disease in children. Most cases of acute liver failure in children are indeterminate; however, metabolic liver disease is one of the main causes in the pediatric age group. Though a major symptom of acute liver failure is hepatic encephalopathy, this is very difficult to diagnose, particularly in younger children. Liver transplantation has improved the chances of survival dramatically; however, it is not known which patients are ideal candidates for liver transplantation. Because patients may deteriorate rapidly, arranging care in a center with expertise will secure the best possible outcomes.

It has been well recognized that the various cutaneous manifestations associated with the liver diseases. A clinical study was made of 255 patients (AVH 84, LC 70, HC 41, CAH 26, CPH 23, AH11) with the liver diseases at Yeungnam University Hospital during the periods from May to November, 1985. The authors classified the cutaneous manifestations into 7 groups according to pathogenesis, and compared them with other reports. The results were as follows; 1. In 255 patients with various liver diseases, 161 patients (63%) showed the various cutaneous manifestations. 2. The various cutaneous manifestations were jaundice and/or pruritus (43.1%), vascular changes (39.6%), allergic manifestations (10.6%), nail changes (5.1%), hormone-induced changes (4.3%), pigmentary changes (3.5%) and others (2.4%) in that order. 3. Cutaneous manifestations were associated most frequently with liver cirrhosis (1.6 groups) and the least with chronic active hepatitis (0.7 group). 4. Allergic manifestations were seen mainly in patients with acute viral hepatitis. Three patients showed the serum sickness-like prodrome. 5. The other cutaneous manifestations were seen mainly in patients with chronic liver diseases.

In Korea, most hepatitis A virus is the IA genotype, but reports of other genotypes have increased recently. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to conduct a genotypic analysis of acute hepatitis A virus. From April 2010 to April 2011, clinical specimens from 20 patients hospitalized with acute hepatitis A and 36 sera positive for anti-HAV IgM were obtained, and the genotype of the VP1/P2A region was analyzed. RNA sequences of the VP1/P2A junction region were amplified using RT-PCR, and the sequences were compared. From 50 sequences amplified, 4 sequences (8%) belonged to genotype IA. The remaining 46 (92%) belonged to genotype IIIA. The results indicate that the genotype of the hepatitis A virus has changed from IA to IIIA in Korea.

The toxic effect of carp bile is well documented since earlier times but its exect mechanism of toxicity is unclear till now. Recently we have experienced a case of acute fenal failure with toxic hepatitis in a 32-year -old man who ingested raw carp bile. He suffered from abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, which occured 3 hours after the ingestion of raw carp bile Juice, Hematuria, proteinuria, oliguria and Jaundice developed subsequently. 9 times of hemodialyses was performed and hepatitis was treated by conservative measure. The patient was discharged after 17 days of hospitalization. About 1 month after carp bile ingestion, no sequelae was detected. The authors report a case of acute renal failure due to carp bile juice ingestion With review of literature. Further study is needed as to the toxic substances of carp bile and pathogenesis.
