The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of dual-task training on balance and upper extremity function with chronic stroke. For seventeen persons with chronic stroke, we executed dual-task training for 4 weeks, five times per week, and 30 minutes each time. Before and after the dual-task training, the patients were tested with Berg Balance Scale(BBS) and BTS FreeEMG 300(BTS FreeEMG 300, BTS, Italy). After the dual-task training, the subjects showed significant changes in the score of BBS(p<.05). And, the subjects' shoulder and elbow movement had negative values of change after the intervention, indicating that there was a positive change. The results of this study show that dual-task training for persons with chronic stroke is a useful therapeutic approach by enhancing the their quality of life through improving balance and upper extremity function.

In previous studies, the dynamic exercise equipment just focused on the trunk stabilization exercise. However, our study is targeted at evaluation for the impact on the postural balance of those researches. Twelve male and twelve female subjects were volunteered for the balance training using this system. They had no medical history of backpain for the past six months. Trunk Stability and postural balance training was performed for 15 minutes a day, three times a week duing four weeks. To evaluate characterization of the postural balance using Balance System SD, Evaluation consist of the postural stability test and the postural limit test. As a result, this training with 3D dynamic exercise equipment help subjects improve the postural balance. These results are expected for using basic materials to the elderly with a high risk of falling and trained athletes needed to be a postural control.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of functional electrical stimulation (FES) with mirror therapy on balance and gait ability in chronic stroke patients. Thirty-five subjects who met the inclusion criteria were randomly allocated into three groups: the functional electrical stimulation with mirror therapy group(FMT group, n=11), mirror therapy group(MT group, n=12), and control group (n=12). The exercises were conducted for 30 min per day, five, per week for four weeks. Balance and gait ability were examined at baseline and after 4 weeks of intervention. After training, the FMT group showed significant improvement in berg balance scale (BBS), center of pressure (COP) length, affected step length (ASL), Cadence and average gait speed (AGS) compared MT group and control group(p<0.05). This findings show that FES and MT convergence can be an effective intervention for stroke patients balance and gait ability. Continued development of convergence interventions for stroke patients with balance and gait ability in practice, are suggested.
This study aimed to examine the changes in dynamic balance exercises after performing lunge exercises on unstable surfaces and on the ground. Participants were divided into a BOSU training group, a balance pad training group, and a ground training group, and performed lunge exercises. As a result, the functional reach test significantly increased in both the BOSU training group and the ground training group, while the Y-balance test significantly increased only in the balance pad training group. No significant differences were found between the groups. Through this study, it was confirmed that although differences between lunge exercises on the ground and on unstable surfaces were not identified, lunge exercises do influence balance ability.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of therapeutic climbing training on postural alignment and balance of normal adults and to suggest possibilities for clinical intervention. The study investigated 30 normal adults who were randomly assigned to either a training group or a control group (n= 15 each). The training group performed climbing training on the climbing wall three times a week for 6 weeks for a total of 40 minutes, while the control group did not perform any training. Biorecue was used to evaluate balance ability, while formetric was used for evaluation of postural alignment. The results showed that there was a significant difference in body slope between the groups in posture alignment (p<.05), as well as in balance ability (p<.05) and time and group interaction (p<.05). In this study, climbing training affected the posture alignment of normal adults, increased the left and right torso tilt and positively affected balance ability. Therefore, these findings confirm that training using climbing is valuable for rehabilitation and clinical application intervention of the general public and patients.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the convergence effectiveness of treadmill training in patients with chronic stroke through a meta-analysis. After searching the literature based on the patients, intervention, comparison, outcome criteria, and study desigan, a total of 22 studies related to "stroke" and "treadmill" were eligible for inclusion. Effect size was calculated using the comprehensive meta-analysis program for the meta-analysis. Based on the forest plot results, the overall effect size of treadmill training was 0.661 (95% confidence interval: 0.456-0.865), which was statistically significant with a medium effect size (p < 0.05). The effects of treadmill training on patients with stroke were separated by dependent variables of interest-plantar pressure (1.147), lower limb muscle function (0.875), and balance (0.664). The effect sizes were evaluated for the subdomains of timed up and go test (0.553), Berg Balance Scale (0.760), and static balance index (0.654) for balance. Therefore, treadmill training can be expected to have a positive impact on improving the quality of life of patients with chronic stroke. This meta-analysis of treadmill training may the lead to an industry paradigm shift toward healthcare convergence of information, communication, and medical technology.

Objective : The aim of this study was to identify the effect of visual feedback on balance and ADL in patient with cerebellar ataxia. Method : Between May of 2013, visual feedback applied to cerebellar ataxia patient. The visual feedback applied five times a week for two weeks to patient who are inpatients of Dae-jeon. To assess changes in balance, we performed the LOS, Romberg, BBS, We also assessed ADL using Canadian occupational performance measure(COPM). Result : For the patient of cerebellum ataxia, we can confirm the limitation of stability, and after the intervention, we can check out the changes which are maintained at Romberg test and Berg Balance Scale. In terms of daily activities, such as taking bath, moving to somewhere, using transportation, doing the laundry, and meeting activity, the level of performance and satisfaction has increased in all five fields. Conclusion : After the visual biofeedback training, patients with cerebellar Ataxia showed more increase in balance and ADL.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of dual task training on postural stability and balance in chronic stroke patients. A total of 25 ambulatory hemiplegic stroke patients were recruited into this study and randomly assigned into two groups, the dual task training group (n=13) and control group (n=12). Both groups received general physical therapy for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week during 6 weeks. In addition, dual task training group received dual task training programs for 50 minutes a day, 3 days a week during 6 weeks. The scores of Trunk Impairment Scale (TIS), Postural Assessment Scale for Stroke (PASS) and postural sway with eye opened and eye closed on the Force Plate were assessed before and after intervention. Postural stability and balance significantly improved after training in the dual task training group(p<0.05). The result suggests that dual task training is feasible and suitable for individual with chronic stroke.

Objectives : This study aimed to determine whether Variability of Walking Environment Training can improve gait and balance in stroke patients. Methods : Twenty-four stroke patients are randomly assigned to experimental group 1 (n=8), experimental group 2 (n=8) and control group (n=8). Experimental group 1 performed unexpected obstacle walking training, experimental group 2 performed fixed obstacle walking training and control group performed non obstacle walking training for 12 minutes per session, 5 times a week for 4 weeks. The gait analyzer G-walk were evaluated using gait cadence, gait velocity, and stride length, balance was evaluated using FES-K and BBS. Results : In within-group comparison of gait cadence, gait velocity and stride length of change, the experimental 1,2 groups showed significant improvements post intervention (p<.05) but control group showed no significant improvement. In between-groups comparison there was significant difference in the change of gait cadence, gait velocity and stride length pre and post intervention. In within-group comparison of FES-K and BBS scores, the experimental 1,2 groups showed significant improvements post intervention (p<.05) but control group showed no significant improvement. In between-groups comparison there was significant difference in the change of FES-K and BBS scores pre and post intervention (p<.05).
