  • In computer vision analysis of detecting concrete slab surface cracks, there are many difficulties to overcome. Target images often have defamations due to the light condition and other external environment. Another difficulties in detecting concrete crack image is that there is no clear distinction in intensity between the crack and the surface since the surface is often irregular. In this paper, we apply ART2 based quantization in order to classify target concrete slab surface images into several areas with respect to the light intensity. From those quantized areas, we investigate the distribution of real cracks and noises. Then, we extract candidate crack areas after applying noise removal process to areas which have be th oracle and noises. Finally, crack areas are recognized by using morphological features of cracks from such candidate areas. In experiment with real world concrete slab structure images, our algorithm has advantage in recognizing accuracy of cracks to other algorithms especially in relatively brighter areas of concrete surface.

  • Eventhough the productivity has been improved remarkably by introducing automatic facilities, the 100% inspection is necessary because the possibility to produce large amount of defective goods is also increased. Since it is extremely unreasonable that workers inspect very large amount of products as 100% inspection, there has been many researches for the automatic inspection system. In this thesis, we develop an automatic detection system of suspension insulator's minutes cracks System The automatic detection system of suspension insulator's minute cracks: To detect the minute cracks of suspension insulators, images of the insulator are acquired with a progressive scan camera, rotating a suspension insulator on a turning table. And after the shadow and noises are eliminated by preprocessing techniques, we detect minute cracks using the features of them.

  • The classical approaches to detect cracks are performed by experienced inspection professionals by annotating the crack patterns manually. Because of each inspector's personal subjective experience, it is hard to guarantee objectiveness. To solve this issue, automated crack detection methods have been proposed however the methods are sensitive to image noise. Depending on the quality of image obtained, the image noise affect overall performance. In this paper, we propose crack detection method using a convolutional encoder-decoder network to overcome these weaknesses. Performance of which is significantly improved in terms of the recall, precision rate and F-measure than the previous methods.

  • Concrete sleepers, installed on majority of railroad track in this nation can, if not maintained properly, threaten the safety of running trains. In this paper, an algorithm for automatically identifying cracks in a sleeper image, taken by high-resolution camera, is developed based on Adaboost, known as the strongest adaptive algorithm and most actively utilized algorithm of current days. The developed algorithm is trained using crack characteristics drawn from the analysis results of crack and non-crack images of field-installed sleepers. The applicability of the developed algorithm is verified using 48 images utilized in the training process and 11 images not used in the process. The verification results show that cracks in all the sleeper images can be successfully identified with an identification rate greater than 90%, and that the developed automatic crack identification algorithm therefore has sufficient applicability.

  • This study detected SCC defects of dissimilar metal welded(STS304 and SA106 Gr. b) pipes using the ultrasonic infrared thermography method and the lock-in image treatment method among infrared thermography method. The infrared excitement equipment has 250 Watt of output and 20 kHz of frequency. By using the ultrasound infrared thermography method, the internal defects of dissimilar metal weld joints of pipes used at nuclear power plants could get detected. By an actual PT test, it was observed that the cracks inside the pipe existed not as a single crack but rather as a multiple cracks within a certain area and generated a hot spot image of a broad area on the thermography image. In addition, UT technology could not easily defects detected by the width of $10\;{\mu}m$ fine hair cracks. but, ultrasound infrared thermography technique was defect detected.

  • RCCA(rod cluster control assembly) End-Tip suffers from neutron irradiation and constant vibration due to high-speed internal flow of primary coolant during plant operation. Such operating conditions cause the RCCA end-tip crackings around tile circumferential weldment of the end-tip, and in some cases, the defective end-tips were completly broken loose. However, no reliable inspection techniques for end-tip crackings were developed in the past, although some techniques exist for inspecting RCCA control rod wears. Therefore, NDE group at KEPRI has developed an ECT technique for the detection and the sizing of the end-tip crackings. The technique uses a specially designed surface-riding probe that can detect size of circumferential crackings with an accuracy of ${\pm}5.31%$ RMS error. This paper describes the ECT instrumentation including the ECT probes, calibration bars, as well as technical approaches.
