Cracked teeth are a common problem with incomplete fracture that typically shows pain on biting and temperature stimuli. The most common cause of crack is known to be the masticatory accident. Predisposing factors were aging, old restoration, and iatrogenic stress concentration, etc. Accurate diagnosis is needed for detecting the extent of crack and pulp vitality. There are many diagnostic tools like bite test, direct observation with transillumination, dye penetration, and radiographs. Immediate treatment for pain relief and occlusal adjustment would be needed. Composite resin and bonded amalgam showed favorable prognosis. Moreover, cusp protection is reliable permanent treatment for cracked teeth. The purpose of this article is to review the literature about the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for cracked teeth.

Primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) instances have been reported in the Alloy 600 reactor pressure vessel head penetration nozzle and the Alloy 82/182 dissimilar metal butt weld nozzle in several PWRs. Therefore, in-service inspection programs have been adopted worldwide to prevent failure at the weld region. If a PWSCC is observed at the dissimilar metal weld region during inspection, its structural integrity should be evaluated; however, this requires considerable time and effort, and this might lead to a decrease in the plant utilization coefficient. To prevent this, KHNP-CRI have established integrity assessment criteria and developed a computer program for the fast evaluation and judgment of PWSCC. In this paper, the results and current status of the same are presented. Through this study, criteria for the structural integrity evaluation of PWSCC have been established, and a computer program has been developed to realize technical means for the evaluation of PWSCC structural integrity.
The mechanical hehavior of relIlforced concrete beams with steel fibers is investigated 111 the present study.
An expenmental program was set up and several series of rem forced concrete beams have been tested, including two senes of singly-reinforced concrete beams and one senes of doubly-reinforced concrete beams. It was found from th, :se measurements that the crack widths lIlcrease almost llIlearly With the lIlcrease of steel stress and that the crack Widths at the same loadlJ1g stages are greatly reduced as the contents of steel fibers increase. The present study also IJ1chcates that the ductiiIty and the ultJmate resistance are remarkably enhanced due to the addition of steel fibers. A theoretical mex1e1 for the flexural analysis of fiber-reinforced concrete beam which takes into account the effects of fibers JS also proposed.
The fracture behavior of $Si_3N_4N$, coated $Si_3N_4N$-BN composite was studied by the Hertzian indentation technique. New types of contact-induced cracks were found, and it was confirmed that these cracks have cone crack geometry. Contact damage was distributed in the substrate layer, which can absorb energy, as well as in the coating layer, so the propagation of initiated cracks in the coating layer were suppressed.
In recent years, the subject of remaining life assessment has drawn considerable attention in power plants, where various structural components typically operate at high temperature and pressure. Thus a life prediction methodology accounting for high temperature creep fracture is increasingly needed for the components. Critical defects in such structures are generally found in the form of semi-elliptical surface crack, and the analysis of which is consequently an important problem in engineering fracture mechanics. On this background, we first develop an auto mesh generation program for detailed 3-D finite element analyses of axial and circumferential semi-elliptical surface cracks in a piping system. A high temperature creep fracture parameter $C^{\ast}$-integral is obtained from the finite element analyses of generated 3-D models. Post crack growth module is further appended here to calculate the amount of crack growth. Finally the remaining lives of surface cracked pipes for various analytical parameters are assessed using the developed life assessment program.

Three Surface cracks are among the more common flaws in aircraft and pressure vessel components. Accurate stress intensity analyses and crack growth rate data of surface-cracked components are needed for reliable prediction of their fatigue life and fracture strengths. Three Dimensional finite element method (FEM) was used to obtain the stress intensity factor for surface cracks existing in structures. A geometry model, i.e. a solid containing one or several 3D cracks is defined. Nodes are generated by bucket method, and quadratic tetrahedral solid elements are generated by the Delaunay triangulation techniques. To examine accuracy and efficiency of the present system, the stress intensity factor for a semi-elliptical surface crack in cylindrical structures subjected to pressure is calculated. Analysis results by present system showed good agreement with those by ASME equation and Raju-Newman's equation.
The effect of steel microfibers (SMF) on alkali-silica reaction (ASR) was investigated using two types of reactive aggregates, crushed opal and a pyrex rod of constant diameter. Cracks are less visible in the SMF mortars compared with the unreinforced mortars. Due to crack growth resistance behavior in SMF mortar specimens, the strength loss is eliminated and the ASR products remained well confined within the ASR site. The expansion and the ASR products were characterized by microprobe analysis and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectroscopy. The confinement due to SMF resulted in a higher Na and Si ion concentration of the ASR liquid extracted from the reaction site. The higher concentration reduced the ASR rate and resulted in a lower reactivity of the reactive pyrex rods in SMF mortars.
A large number of grain boundaries were seen to crack in near-eutectic solder joints of leadless ceramic chip carriers (LLCC's) during thermal cycling at temperature ranges from -$35^{\circ}C$ to +$125^{\circ}C$ with lhr time period. One potential explanation for this type of cracking might be the presence of embrittling species on the boundary. Although there do not appear to be any instances reported in the literature of solders being embrittled by small amounts of contaminating species, the possibility of such an occurrence exists. The potential presence of impurities located at crack surfaces was inspected using Scanning Auger Microprobe(SAM) and it was found that intergranular cracking could be accomplished by the oxidation of the grain boundary. A physical model for fatigue crack growth was introduced, in which grain boundary separation took place under oxidation facilitated by sliding.
This study is for the genetic differences of two closed asbestos mines from Jeongjeon and Ocheon areas in Boryoung, Chungnam. They are mined asbestos for past several decades. Host rocks are serpentinites for Jeongjeon mine and dolomites for Ocheon mine. Asbestos samples and their host rocks are collected from the field trips and examined with microscopes and FESEM, and analysed with XRD and EDX to confirm for the type and/or compositions of the minerals. The asbestos occur as layers, cracks and fractures assummed as a pathway of the hydrothermal water, but show different characteristics. The serpentinites from the Jeongjeon mine contain chrysotile, tremolite and actinolite asbestos. Non-asbestos minerals including tremolite and actinolite were also found. The chrysotiles occur as a cross fiber or slip fiber at veins and along cracks of several mm to cm thickness. Tremolite and actinolite asbestos occur along cracks and fractures of several cm to ten cm thickness. It suggests that the asbestos from Jeongjeon area were formed by the reactions between serpentinite and hydrothermal water. The dolomites of the Ocheon mine only contain tremolite and actinolite asbestos. The asbestos occur along layers, cracks and fractures, suggestive of asbestos from Ocheon area formed by the reactions between dolomite and hydrothermal waters influxed along layers, cracks and fractures. Overall results suggest that two asbestos mines showing different host rocks are located in a Boryoung area. They show a different type of asbestos minerals, reflecting variety of petrogeneses.
Purpose: The Seoul Metropolitan Government classifies the cavity risks into emergency, priority, general, and observation grades in consideration of the cavity size, asphalt pavement thickness, and pavement depth based on the cavity management grade criteria of Seoul. In this study, the depth of cracking was measured at 17 cracks identified by checking the pavement condition of the cavity at 265 cavities found in the 2019 cavity investigation service. Method: In the first phase, crack width and depth were measured using a vernier caliper, taper gauge, and depth gauge to check the cracks of the identified cavities. In the second phase, the location of the largest crack in the upper road surface was confirmed, and A.C. was drilled to further measure the crack depth. Results: As a result, the cavity management level was raised in nine of the 17 test cavity identified. Therefore, in case of emergency and priority recovery, the grade should be adjusted according to the depth of pavement crack and the thickness of residual A.C. pavement. Conclusion: In the case of cracks in the upper part of the cavity, the crack progression must be determined through the perforation and the remaining asphalt concrete thickness must be determined to determine the cavity grade.
