  • In this paper, we have measured the fundamental properties of chime stone for Pyeongyeong. The properties are measured by wave propagation in the stone without destroying the stones, the measured properties are the chime stone density, natural frequencies of extensional wave and bending wave, and Young's modulus which is calculated by the measured properties. To find a value for Young's modulus, the fundamental frequencies which are obtained through spectrum analysis of extensional wave and bending wave are used. We calculated Young's modulus of chime stone by theoretical study and measurement on extensional wave and bending wave of the beam. As a result, we obtained Young's modulus by the fundamental frequencies of extensional wave and bending wave which deviation is within 2%.

  • Tire noise is a major noise source at high speeds. One of the noise source is controlled by pattern and structure. Pattern noise is effected by the shape of tread. And the bending stiffness of tire is influenced to the resonance of tire‘s belt. But in high frequency region, FEA is not appropriated with application. So this paper discusses about wave propagation of tire. There has been much effort to verify the flexural wave velocity with structure design specification.

  • A bar with periodically nonuniform material properties is selected as a one-dimensional model of a flat-panel speaker. This paper describes a theoretical approach to the bending waves propagating i n the nonuniform bar. The phase speed of the wave is obtained using perturbation techniques for small amplitude, sinusoidal modulation of the flexural rigidity and mass density. It is shown that the wave speed is decreased due to the nonuniformity of the material properties by the amount proportional to the square of the modulation amplitude. The resonance occurring when the wavelength is half of the period of the material properties is analyzed by the method of multiple scales. It is also shown that the wave speed at the resonance mode is decreased by the amount proportional to the modulation amplitude but the wave of this mode does not propagate far enough due to attenuation.

  • A time-frequency analysis method was developed to analyze the dispersive waves caused by impact loads in structural members such as beams and plates. Stress waves generated by ball drop and pencil lead break were recorded by ultrasonic transducers and acoustic emission (AE) sensors. Wavelet transform (WT) using Gabor function was employed to analyze the dispersive waves in the time-frequency domain, and then to find the arrival time of the waves as a function of frequency. The measured group velocities in the beam and the plate were compared with the predictions based on the Timoshenko beam theory and Rayleigh-Lamb frequency equations, respectively. The agreements were found to be very good.

  • A fuel specific detonation wave in a pipe propagates with a predictable wave velocity. This internal detonation wave speed determines the level of flexural wave excitation of pipes and the possibility of resonant response leading to a large displacement. In this paper, we present particular solutions of displacements and the resonance conditions for internally loaded pipe structures. These analytical results are compared to numerical simulations obtained using a hydrocode(multi-material blast wave analysis tool). We expect to identify potential explosion hazards in the general power industries.

  • Elastic dynamic responses analysis program for ship hulls considering slamming impact loads due to the voyage in large amplitude waves is developed. Ship hull structures are modeled by a thin-walled beam model in order to consider effects of shear deformation. The momentum slamming theory is used to derive nonlinear hydrodynamic forces considering intersection between wave particles and ship section. For the validation of the developed computer program, motions of a V-shaped simple section model and S-175 standard container model are calculated and analyzed. In each numerical example, time histories of relative displacement, velocity and vertical bending moment of a ship section are derived, considering the effect of slamming impacts in various wave conditions.ures near the free surface as well as the wake of the hydrofoil.

  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and interferential current therapy were applied to the plantar flexor of the stroke patients, and the immediately effects on gait and ankle ROM were investigated. TENS group (n=15) and ICT group (n=15) were applied to the paretic side plantar flexor, respectively. After 60 minutes of application, evaluation of the gait and passive ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM) using smartphone. After 60 minutes of application, immediate post evaluation was carried out. Two electrotherapy methods showed a significant increase in gait speed, cadence, and ankle ROM. Two electrotherapy methods were intervention methods that could increase the gait and ankle ROM of stroke patients. More subjects will be needed to pinpoint differences between the two electrotherapy methods.

  • In order to design a safe and economic catamaran, it is of clime importance to rigorously estimate the dynamic loads on the catamaran in waves. In this paper, the 2-D strip method by Lee et al.[3] is. extended to a 3-D method which can estimate the dynamic loads(horizontal and vertical shear forses, and bending and torsional moments) acting on the center of the cross deck of the catamaran travelling in an arbitrary wave heading angle. The computational results are compared with Wahab et al's experimental data[2], and also 2-D and 3-D numerical results published. It is found that in general, the 3-D method give much improved correlations with the experimental data compared with 2-D methods, but there are some discrcrepancy between the same 3-D results used by the same theory. In order to improve the accuracy, the effect of the viscous flow and the rigid consideration of the forward speed effect seem to be necessary.

  • In this paper, the method calculating hydroelastic responses of very large floating structure close to a breakwater in waves is presented. The source-dipole distribution method is used to calculate the generalized radiation problem considering breakwater effects and the diffraction problem is analyzed by using the source-dipole distribution andvelocity potential continuation method. The response of a VLFS is approximated by anexpansion in terms of a free-free beam. Calculated model is a VLFS with 1000m in length in a sea with a straight breakwater. The vertical displacements and bonding moments around a VLFS are calculated by variations for distance between a VLFS and a breakwater and incident wave angle to know the effect of a breakwater.
