  • The parametric analysis of vertically braced steel pipe arch ribs was performed to evaluate their in-plane buckling strengths and ultimate load-carrying capacities. The elastic and plastic behavior of braced arch ribs, unlike those of the usual single arch ribs, are affected by such factors as the flexural rigidity of the brace member, brace and pipe ribs spacing, loading situation, and arch curvature. To analyze these effects, several parameters were included, such as the rise-to-span ratio, the second moment of the inertia ratio of the rib to the brace member, the space ratio of the brace, the space ratio of the upper and lower ribs, the initial crookedness, the slenderness ratios of the braced arch ribs, and the loading conditions were considered with live-load-to-dead-load ratios. Based on the results of the parametric analyses, a proper profile of the braced arch rib was proposed. A large-scale structural experiment was also performed to evaluate the ultimate strength of the braced arch rib. The test results were determined to reasonably coincide with the analytical ones.

  • In this paper, a X-Band T/R-module for SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) systems based on active phased array antennas is designed and fabricated. The T/R modules have a and width of more than 800 MHz centered at X-Band and support dual, switched polarizations. The output power of the module is 7 watts over a wide bandwidth. The noise figure is as low as 3.9 dB. Phase and amplitude are controlled by a 6-bit phase shifter and a 6-bit digital attenuator, respectively. Further the fabricated T/R module has est and calibration port with directional coupler and power divider. Highly integrated T/R module is achieved by using LTCC(Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic) multiple layer substrate. RMS gain error is less than 0.8 dB max. in Rx mode, and RMS phase error is less than $4^{\circ}$ max. in Rx/Tx phase under all operating frequency band, or the T/R module meet the required electrical performance m test. This structure an be applied to active phase array SAR Antennas.

  • This study examined a pile foundation using a spiral pile. To maintain the structural safely, a foundation for connecting the ground and the ground structure is needed. On the other hand, noise and vibration, etc. cause problems when constructing a foundation on adjacent structures or urban areas. A study of the spiral foundation of a new shape with low vibration and noise was carried out to solve these problems. A study of pile foundations was carried out on a scaled model test and compared with the results of Meyerhof's bearing capacity theory. The scaled model test results showed that the bearing capacity increases with increasing pitch angle and length of the spiral pile. To verify the measured bearing capacity in a test with theoretical results, the bearing capacity of the actual spiral pile and scaled model pile were examined and compared. The ultimate bearing capacity of the spiral pile can be increased by increasing the foundation length and pitch angle. This study complements existing foundation construction problems and contributes to a better effect and safety.

  • In medical image processing, if new technologies arc developed, they arc applied to real clinical cases. The results are to be analyzed by doctors to improve the new technologies. So, it is important for doctors to have a tool that helps the doctors in applying the new technologies to clinical cases and analyzing the clinical results. In this paper, we design and implement a visual programming environment where non-programming experts, such as medical doctors, can easily compose a medical image processing application program. A set of image processing functions are implemented and represented as icons. Thc user selects functions by clicking correslxmding icons. The users can easily find necessary' functions from the visualized library. A user selects a function from the visualized library and [Jut the function node into a canvas of Visual Programming Interface. The user connects nodes to compose a dataflow diagram. The connected dataflow diagram shows the now of the program. Hyperbolic Tree is helpful in visualizing a set of function icons in a single screen because it provides both the whole stmcture of the function Iihrary and the details of the focused functions at the same time. We also developed a CUI builder where the user interfaces of the medical image processing applications are composed. Therefore. non'programming experts such as physicians can apply new medical image processing algorithms to clinical cases without performing complex computer programming procedures.

  • With the rapid increases of the amount of data and computing, the parallelization of the computing algorithm becomes necessary more than ever. However the parallelization had been conducted mostly in a super-computer until the rod 1990s, it was not for the general users due to the high price, the complexity of usage, and etc. A new concept for the parallel processing has been emerged in the form of K-clustering form the late 1990s, it becomes an excellent alternative for the applications need high computer power with a relative low cost although the installation and the usage are still difficult to the general users. The mapping algorithms (cut, join, resizing, warping, conversion from raster to vector and vice versa, etc) in GIS are well suited for the parallelization due to the characteristics of the data structure. If those algorithms are manipulated using PC-clustering, the result will be satisfiable in terms of cost and performance since they are processed in real flu with a low cos4 In this paper the tools and the libraries for the parallel processing and PC-clustering we introduced and how those tools and libraries are applied to mapping algorithms in GIS are showed. Parallel programs are developed for the mapping algorithms and the result of the experiments shows that the performance in most algorithms increases almost linearly according to the number of node.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the structure and heat generation mechanism of low voltage switches used to turn on or off the power supply to an indoor lighting system and investigate how the fixtures and movable contacts of the switches are damaged depending on the types of energy sources in order to secure the judgment base for expected PL disputes. Based on the Korean Standard (KS) testing method for incombustibility, this study applied a general flame to the switch. In addition, current was supplied to the switch using the PCITS (Primary Current Injection Test System). The ambient temperature and humidity were maintained at $22{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ and 40~60% respectively while performing the test. It is thought that the switch generated heat due to a defective connection of the wire and clip, insulation deterioration and defective contact of the movable contact, etc. The surface of the switch damaged by the general flame was uniformly carbonized. When the flame source was removed, the fire on the switch was extinguished naturally. From the result obtained by disassembling the switch carbonized by the general flame, it could be seen that fixtures and movable contacts remained in comparatively good shape but the enclosure, clip support, movable contact, indicating lamp, etc. showed carbonization and discoloration. In the case of the switch damaged by overcurrent, the clip connecting the wires, clip support, etc. showed almost no trace of damage, but the fixtures, movable contact, indicating lamp, etc. were severely carbonized. That is, the sections with high contact resistance were intensively damaged and showed a damage pattern indicating that carbonization progressed from the inside to the outside. Therefore, it is possible to judge the initial energy source by analyzing the characteristics of the carbonization pattern and the metal fixtures of damaged switches.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a high conversion and isolation characteristic V-band quadruple sub-harmonic mixer monolithic circuit which is designed and fabricated for the millimeter wave down converter applications. While most of the sub-harmonic mixers use a half of fundamental frequency, we adopt a quarter of the fundamental frequency. The proposed circuit is based on a sub-harmonic mixer with APDP(anti-parallel diode pair) and the 0.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ PHEMT's (pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistors). Lumped elements at IF port provide better selectivity of IF frequency and increase isolation. Maximum conversion gain of 0.8 ㏈ at a LO frequency of 14.5㎓ and at a RF frequency of 60.4 ㎓ is measured. Both LO-to-RF and LO-to-IF isolations are higher than 50 ㏈. The conversion gain and isolation characteristic are the best performances among the reported quadruple sub-harmonic mixer operating in the V-band millimeter wave frequency thus far.

  • In this paper we investigate context dependent acoustic models to improve the performance of the Korean speech recognition . The algorithm are using the Korean phonological rules and decision tree, By Successive State Splitting(SSS) algorithm the Hidden Merkov Netwwork(HM-Net) which is an efficient representation of phoneme-context-dependent HMMs, can be generated automatically SSS is powerful technique to design topologies of tied-state HMMs but it doesn't treat unknown contexts in the training phoneme contexts environment adequately In addition it has some problem in the procedure of the contextual domain. In this paper we adopt a new state-clustering algorithm of SSS, called Phonetic Decision Tree-based SSS (PDT-SSS) which includes contexts splits based on the Korean phonological rules. This method combines advantages of both the decision tree clustering and SSS, and can generated highly accurate HM-Net that can express any contexts To verify the effectiveness of the adopted methods. the experiments are carried out using KLE 452 word database and YNU 200 sentence database. Through the Korean phoneme word and sentence recognition experiments. we proved that the new state-clustering algorithm produce better phoneme, word and continuous speech recognition accuracy than the conventional HMMs.

  • By studying 'Sauidangzi' written by Honggyungmo(1774~1851), this paper shows on the location, the space organization, and the landscape culture of 'Sauidang' which was upper class's house in late period of the Joseon. Sauidang was the residence of about 530 kan(about $1,750m^2$) which was given to Jeongmyunggongju(daughter of Sunzo) by Injo when she married with Hongjuwon, located at the good place where Mt. Mokmyuk, Mt. Dobong, Mt. Inwang, and Janwon peak are harmonized all together. The residence was on the foothill of Mt. Mokmyuk, facing to the northeast. The main house was facing to the east with the inner and back yards, and the separate house(Sauidang) was facing to the west with the garden, and a vegetable field was set in the outer yard where is connected with a main road where willow trees were lined up, 'Sauidang' was called as "the garden of princess", and a stair-shaped flower garden was made to the south, and one could look down the Hanyang castle as a whole. In the garden, there were trees and house plants enriching one's mind to wish an eternal life with oddly shaped stones or flowers, and symbolizing a fairly land. There were 38 types of trees that were planted either on the ground or in pots as various bundles like 1 tree, 2 trees, 3 trees, 4 trees, 5 trees, 8 trees, and 9 trees. Taehosuk, oddly shaped stones, stone panels, stone pillars, jade panels, sundial, walls and fences, stone stairs, steppingstones, and buildings were set for the landscape. Also, the residence had rare luxuries of landscaping culture like Wangheeji's Nanjungsoogyeseo, Sosik's Cheeongjeongi, Jomangboo's Jeokbyukboo, and Anpyungdaegoon's Behaedangcheop.
