This study aims to develop a wireless communication system for long-term monitoring of high-level radioactive waste disposal facilities. Conventional wired sensors can lead to a deterioration in buffer quality and management difficulties due to the use of cables for power supply and data transmission. This study proposes the adoption of a wireless communication system and compares the received signal strengths within bentonite using modules such as WiFi, ZigBee, and LoRa. Increases in dry density of bentonite and distance between transceivers led to reduced received signal strength. Additionally, using the low-frequency band exhibited less signal attenuation. Based on these findings, a conceptual design for a wireless network-based THM integrated sensor system was proposed. Results of this study can be used as foundational data for long-term monitoring of disposal facility.

A damage estimation method for monopile support structure of offshore wind turbine using modal properties and committee of neural networks is presented for effective structural health monitoring. An analytical model for a monopile support structure is established, and the natural frequencies, mode shapes, and mode shape slopes for the support structure are calculated considering soil condition and added mass. The input to the neural networks consists of the modal properties and the output is composed of the stiffness indices of the support structure. Multiple neural networks are constructed and each individual network is trained independently with different initial synaptic weights. Then, the estimated stiffness indices from different neural networks are averaged. Ten damage cases are estimated using the proposed method, and the identified damage locations and severities agree reasonably well with the exact values. The accuracy of the estimation can be improved by applying the committee of neural networks which is a statistical approach averaging the damage indices in the functional space.

These days news about natural disaster caused by earthquake, typhoon is broadcasted frequently. At this moment, structure' healthy is threatened by natural disaster, only way to minimize the casualties and property damage is doing accurate alert. In this research, I designed Expert system to reduce wrong-alert and elevate the accuracy. The expert system put many sensors close to each other as a one group. We focus on elevating reliability of monitoring system by comparing each nearby sensor's state not one single sensor. Providing accurate data which can decide safe to structure manager can minimize current damage by early response, also has advantage that can prevent additional damage can be occur in the future.
The purpose of this study is to provide appropriate methodology to ensure the safety and integrity of the production riser in offshore structure. In order to select integrity estimation methodology for production riser, level I and II Non-destructive Damage Evaluation (NDE) methods that were applied to existing structures are classified and reviewed. Numerical analysis is performed to verify the applicability and capability on damage detection of reviewed methods. As a result, the damage detection methodology using modal strain energy is more sensitive in detection of the damage than other methods. In practice, the number of sensors is limited due to the environmental and financial conditions. The impact on damage detection performance by reducing the number of sensors is systematically investigated through a series of numerical analyses and the results are discussed. The optimal number of sensor for the integrity estimation of production riser is recommended.

Pipeline structure is one of core underground infrastructure which transports primary sources. Since the almost pipeline structures are placed underground and connected each other complexly, it is difficult to monitor their structural health condition continuously. In order to overcome this limitation of recent monitoring technique, recently, a Ubiquitous Sensor Network (USN) system based on on-line and real-time monitoring system is being developed by the authors' research group. In this study, real-time pipeline health monitoring (PHM) methodology is presented based on electromechanical impedance methods using USN. Two types of damages including loosened bolts and notches are artificially inflicted on the pipeline structures, PZT and MFC sensors that have piezoelectric characteristics are employed to detect these damages. For objective evaluation of pipeline conditions, Damage metric such as Root Mean Square Deviation (RMSD) value was computed from the impedance signals to quantify the level of the damage. Optimal threshold levels for decision making are estimated by generalized extreme value(GEV) based statistical method. Throughout a series of experimental studies, it was reviewed the effectiveness and robustness of proposed PHM system.

The structural deformed shape is important information to structural analysis. If the sufficient measuring points are secured at the structural monitoring system, reasonable and accurate structural deformation shapes can be obtained and structural analysis is possible using this deformation. However, the accurate estimation of the global structural shapes might be difficult if sufficient measuring points are not secure under cost limitations. In this study, SFSM-LS algorithm, the economic and effective estimation method for the structural deformation shapes with limited displacement measuring points is developed and suggested. In the suggested method, the global structural deformation shape is determined by the superposition of the pre-investigated structural deformed shapes obtained by preliminary FE analyses, with their optimum weight factors which lead minimization of the estimate errors. 2-span continuous bridge model is used to verify developed algorithm and parametric studies are performed. By the parametric studies, the characteristics of the estimation results obtained by the suggested method were investigated considering essential parameters such as pre-investigated structural shapes, locations and numbers of displacement measuring points. By quantitative comparison of estimation results with the conventional methods such as polynomial, Lagrange and spline interpolation, the applicability and accuracy of the suggested method was validated.

In this paper, a new load monitoring system for military aircraft is introduced. This system consists of sensors, an onboard device and an ground analysis equipment. The sensors and onboard device are mounted on the aircraft and the ground analysis equipment is operated on the ground. Through this system, structural static load can be estimated with flight parameters and structural responses can be measured by sensors due to static load, dynamic load and unexpected events. Especially, optical fiber sensors with mutiplexing capability are utilized. The onboard device was specially designed for complying the requirements of relevant military specifications and was verified through a series of the environment tests. This system was used and evaluated through ground structural tests before flight tests. In the near future, this system will be applied to military aircraft as a structural load monitoring system after flight test evaluation.

This study was performed for application of Structural Health Monitoring system of Jamsil Lotte World Tower. Axial stresses of mega column and core wall are measured in the past 29 months for axial stress monitoring and evaluating predicted self weight. We use the midas gen program(FEM analysis program) with construction stage analysis mode to predict axial stress. 8 mega column axial stressmeters are installed at 21st floor and 4 core wall stressmeters are installed at 38th floor. Measurement data was obtained without creep and shrinkage effect.
