Slip coefficient, whose value is dependent on the condition of contact surface at the friction joint of high tension bolt, is determined by slip load. Because contact area affects slip load, contact area that varies with bolt hole size is also related to the slip coefficient. In this study, we manufactured 32 specimens and performed bending and tension tests in order to examine changes in slip coefficient and load with material type, bolt diameter, and size of bolt hole. Slip load of specimens with oversize bolt hole had strength that was more than 80% higher than the slip load of specimens with standard bolt hole, and it also exceeded the design slip strength. In addition, we observed significant correlation between net-section ratio and slip ratio of specimens with oversize and standard bolt hole. However, some differences between the specimens are thought to have been caused by reduction in initial axial force of high tension bolt, which is an important parameter of slip coefficient. It is self-evident that increased bolt hole size would lead to decrease in design strength as it reduces both slip coefficient and bolt axial force. Nevertheless, we suggest that some flexibility in regulation of bolt hole, as long as it does not threaten the structural stability, may be a positive factor in terms of workability and efficiency.

A beam with web opening may reduce the cost of steel and the height of multistory steel buildings. Bower's analysis based on the theory of elasticity and Vierendeel analysis had evaluated the normal stresses around the holes, but these analyses have difficulties for practical uses because of complexity and the limitation for their application. In this study, it is shown that the finite element method, using smaller number of isoparametric elements by taking only a part of the beam which includes the hole, can diminish defects of the above two methods and it may represent more satisfactorily the distribution of the local stress concentration around the hole than the other methods which employed linear elements such as in the analysis by Samuel or Redwood. This study presents the effects of moments, shears, and eccentricities of a hole on the distribution of the normal stresses calculated by using the proposed finite element method. Consequently, it is found that the variations of shear force and hole depth give significant effects on the normal stresses around a hole, while the variations of eccentricities of the hole provide a little effect on them. The regression coefficients resulted from the multiple linear regression may be used for estimating the normal stresses around any arbitrary hole in the web of a beam, since the normal stresses guessed by this regression coefficient equation match well the results by the finite element method except the case of large eccentricity.
The purpose of this study is to optimize a parallel-hole collimator for small gamma camera having the pixellated crystal array and evaluate the effect of crystal-collimator misalignment on the image quality using a simulation tool GATE (Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission). The spatial resolution and sensitivity were measured for the various size of hexagonal-hole and matched square-hole collimators with a Tc-99m point source and the uniformity of flood image was estimated as a function of the angle between crystal array and collimator by misalignment. The results showed that the spatial resolution and sensitivity were greatly improved by using the matched collimator and the uniformity was reduced by crystal-collimator misalignment.
In this paper we propose a plasmonic color filter with a novel nanopattern. The suggested pattern, called a "polyperiodic hole array" (PPHA), is introduced to solve the angle dependence of the optical response that originates from the periodic structure. We set the diameter and period of the hole to make a green color filter, and set the unit-cell size and metal and dielectric thicknesses in consideration of the propagation length and skin depth. The periodic hole arrays are locally rotated to make a PPHA pattern, resulting in a globally aperiodic yet partially periodic pattern. As a result, compared to a general pattern, the PPHA nanostructured color filter has a maximum 40% improvement in spectral shift when the angle of incidence is increased from 0° to 30°. Transmittance reduction was also alleviated by 30%. This work will improve the performance of nanostructured color filters and help with nanotechnology being applied industrially to imaging devices, including displays and image sensors.
A coded aperture camera has been developed to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) while keeping the spatial resolution of a pinhole gamma camera. The purpose of this study was to optimize a coded aperture camera and to evaluate its possibility for thyroid imaging by Monte Carlo simulation. A clinical gamma camera, a pinhole collimator with 1.0 mm hole diameter, and a $79{\times}79$ modified uniformly redundant array (MURA) mask were designed using GATE (Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission). The penetration ratio, spatial resolution, integral uniformity and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) were simulated and evaluated as a function of the mask thickness. The spatial resolution of the coded aperture camera was consistent with the various mask thickness, SNR showed a maximum value at 1.2 mm mask thickness and integral uniformity was improved by increasing mask thickness. Compare to the pinhole gamma camera, the coded aperture camera showed improved SNR by a factor of 30 while keeping almost the same spatial resolution. In this simulation study, the results indicated that high spatial resolution and ultra-high SNR of the thyroid imaging are feasible using a coded aperture camera.

This study covers the nonlinear analysis of anchor head for high strength prestressing strand and presents necessary process in improving the performance of anchor head. The surface of wedge for strand is contacted to the surface of the wedge hole on anchor head when it is fitted into the wedge hole, and the contact condition changes according to the level of load applied through the wedge. In order to analyze detailed behavior, nonlinear material model and contact element were used in analysis. It was found from the analysis that the behavior of anchor head is affected by the interaction with the wedge contacted so that the wedge in FE model should have the same figure as the actual object. Circular array of wedge hole presents better stress distribution than layer array even though the small difference in maximum deformation. Increment of thickness of anchor head and distance of wedge hole also improve the performance of anchor head.
The green algae have cellulose as a main structural component of their cell wall and the cellulose content in green algae is much higher than other marine algae such as brown algae and red algae. Furthermore, green algae do not contain lignin in their cell wall and store starch as food in their plastids. Thus, it was investigated that the effect of hydrothermal pretreatment process utilizing microwave irradiation for Ulva pertusa Kjellman, a division of green algae, which is expected to be utilized for bioenergy production, on the enzymatic hydrolysis. The hydrothermal temperature have an effect on the pretreatment of Ulva pertusa Kjellman, but the effect of power of microwave irradiation is negligible. The rate of enzymatic hydrolysis was increased as the hydrothermal temperature increased until $140^{\circ}C$. The enzymatic hydrolysis of pretreated Ulva pertusa Kjellman under the optimum pretreatment conditions (50 W of microwave irradiation power and $150^{\circ}C$ of hydrothermal temperature) with cellulase, ${\alpha}$-amylase, and Novozyme 188 having ${\beta}$-glucosidase acitivity resulted in the saccharification of 96 wt% of total carbohydrate in Ulva pertusa Kjellman during 3 hrs, while it took 24 hrs for the enzymatic hydrolysis of untreated Ulva pertusa Kjellman. It confirmed that the hydrothermal pretreatment was effective on Ulva pertusa Kjellman for the enzymatic hydrolysis.

This experiment was carried out to investigate the best spray timing for the control of the bacterial shot hole with Bordeaux mixture (6-6) after wintering in the peach orchard. We sprayed Bordeaux mixture (6-6) on 'Mibaekdo', 'Yumyeong' and 'Cheonhong' of peach verities from late-March to mid-April in 2001, 2002 and 2014, and examined how much bacterial shot hole and chemical injure occurred. The infection rate of bacterial shot hole according to spray time was 10.2 to 11.7% at leaves, and 1.7 to 2.2% at fruits in 2002. And Efficacy of the Bordeaux mixture treatment for control of bacterial shot hole at full blooming time 21.2 to 30.4% at leaves, 1.7 to 4.4% at fruits in 2014. The chemical injure occurred slightly for one week hence. The fruit bearing rate was 20.7 to 29.8% at 'Mibaekdo', and 35.4 to 61.9% at 'Yumyeong' peach trees. When the spray at the time of blooming period by bordeaux mixture was investigated the control effect of bacterial shot hole disease. The infected leaves was better than 21 to 25% twice the quantity of finished products and bordeaux self-preparation about 28 to 30% base quantity of finished products, also the control efficacy was higher in infected fruits trends in bordeaux self-preparation method and twice the quantity of finished products.

Experiments were conducted to study the transition of shrinking flame disk to flame hole in counterflow diffusion flames. The studies of transition are well described by varying burner diameters, global strain rate and velocity ratio. It is experimentally verified that radial conduction heat loss is affected at even high strain rate flames for appropriately small burner diameters. It is also shown that flame extinction modes are grouped into three and particularly, hole or stripe is observed in sufficiently high strain rate flames. There exists critical radius according to burner diameter which divide flame extinction modes into three parts.

In this paper, hole expanding tests are carried out in order to identify the effect of the hole process condition on the hole expanding ratio. Specimens with two different hole conditions are prepared: one is produced with punching process; and the other is reamed after punching to get smoother hole surface. The experimental results show that the facture mechanism and the hole expanding ratio are quite different with respect to the hole condition. The hole expanding ratio of a punched specimen is much smaller than that of a reamed one due to the difference of surface roughness and internal defects. For the thorough investigation of those effects, tensile tests of a specimen with a hole are performed. The fracture strain is obtained with different hole conditions and a finite element analysis of the hole flanging process carried out. The experimental results are confirmed and reevaluated by finite element analysis of the hole flanging process with ductile fracture criterion proposed.
