  • This study was conducted to examine the influence of 1-1-9 ambulance crews' empathy ability and compassion fatigue on the quality of life in the COVID-19 situation, and to provide basic data on the specific system to improve the quality of life of 1-1-9 ambulance crews. From March 10 to June 15, 2021, a survey was conducted on 250 1-1-9 ambulance crews in K-do and D-si, and frequency analysis, correlation, and multiple regression analysis were conducted using SPSS/WIN 25.0 for the collected data. As a result of multiple regression analysis, it was found that the relationship between psychological variables related to COVID-19 of 1-1-9 ambulance crews on empathy ability, compassion fatigue, and quality of life had a significant influence on each sub-factor. In this paper, we propose that a system be designed to enhance 1-1-9 ambulance crews' well-being.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the circumstances surrounding collisions involving ambulances with an aim to improving the safe operation of emergency services. Collisions are relatively common within paramedic emergency services. We analyzed the time, injury site, and any other specific factors of 908 collisions occurring within four cities. Within our study 29.6% of paramedics have been involved in accidents while responding to an emergency call, with the main cause of the accident being signal violation (35.7%), and is the other party's negligence (22.2%). 92.1% of these accidents occurred while the emergency lights were being operated. XX% of accidents took place in the afternoon, while xx% took place within the hours of xx:xx and xx:xx, during which time there is generally lower levels of traffic, which can cause severe brain and neck damage of 14.4% but the other part is 62.1%. (Ed note; this is not clear at all. 14.4% of collisions resulted in severe head and neck injuries, while 23.5% of collisions resulted in no injury. According to the respondents, defensive driving (xx%), observance of traffic laws (xx%), safe driving habits (xx%)to paramedics were the most critical factors in evading collision. Signal passes were identified as the most common cause of collision (70.1%). Although the majority of collisions occurred while the emergency lights were operational, the damage can cause severe damage at the time of accident occurred.

  • The purpose of the study is to investigate the intravenous access of paramedics in ambulance. The study consisted of confidence change in pre and post intravenous access by driving condition and speed of the vehicle. The research subjects were 30 119 paramedics (20 level 1 emergency medical technicians, 10 nurses), and 6 ambulance driving conditions were established in order to measure the number of attempts at intravenous access. The data was collected for 9 days from May 18 through May 27, 2017. The results show no disparities in number of attempts in terms of stop conditions and flat section driving conditions(p=.161) although there were significant disparities in unpaved road(p=.003), speed bump(p=.005), curve(p=.022), and slope(p=.003) section driving conditions. Confidence appeared to significantly rise(p=.000) after the experiment. In conclusion, it is recommended that swift intravenous access inside an ambulance while driving is attempted when the vehicle has come to a stop or a flat section and paramedics should maintain their confidence in intravenous access through continued training.

The collected data was analyzed using SPSS 20.0 version, and frequency analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were carried out. First, there was a positive correlation among the QWL of the 119 paramedics, their OE and CO. Second, the QWL (personal, management dimension) of the 119 paramedic's was a factor that affected OE and job satisfaction. Third, the QWL (personal, management dimension) of the 119 paramedics had an impact on the CO. (ED note: please check all this and it was not clear. It may be correct now.)Forth, the impact of the OE of the 119 paramedics on the CO exerted a significant influence on the OE and job satisfaction. Given the findings of the study, the QWL of 119 paramedics should be improved to heighten paramedics' welfare to promote the quality of emergency medical services.

  • The current study was conducted to make pre-post comparisons of education done for 119 emergency medical technicians (EMT) on the patient assessment performance. The data are expected to offer applicable training methods and educational resources for emergency medical services. Twenty six EMT from four cities and provinces participated in the study, which was carried out from 14 to 17 December, 2015. The technicians performed a patient assessment and marked reports on simulated patients. In the course of the assessment, a pre-post evaluation of education was done using a checklist regarding the respective symptoms, such as headache, chest pain, and dyspnea. The median value (quartile value) was used as the descriptive analysis. While patient assessment scores marked 66 points (54.00-80.25) out of 100 (p<0.01) before education, there was a significant increase in the after-education scores, which reached 88.5 points (80.00-93.00). The patient assessment performances revealed a significant increase (p<.0.01) in 5 chest pain, 7 headache, and 9 dyspnea items after education. Similarly, there was an increase in wanting to meet the EMT again scale in regards to categories involved in developing positive relations with patients. Moreover, the adequacy in the patient condition reports all marked a significant increase (p<0.01) in assessment categories. The present study shows that education based on simulation practices are necessary for improvements in patient assessment performance of 119 EMT. Therefore, practical and systematic patient assessment educations may serve as a prerequisite. Further opportunities should be provided for the EMT consistently.
