As the subjects of survey, total 120 patients who have agreed to the research among the patients of three care hospitals, were enrolled between March and July in 2015. As the result of the study on the factors that influence the oral health perception, it was verified that the persons of an average monthly income of 2 million won or more, were shown to have significantly better oral health awareness than the subjects of monthly earning of less than 2 million won (p<0.05), thus showing that the oral health awareness by the people of monthly income of more than 2 million won, was 0.77 times higher compared to the others. Therefore, in order to improve the oral health awareness of pneumoconiosis patients, the economic stability of the patients should be taken into account as a priority when examining the oral health policy decisions and it was recommended that the survey and research on the oral health of patients with pneumoconiosis can be done in amore systematic manner.

The findings of the research are listed in the following: First, the workers have a high level of awareness of the effect of tooth-brushing to prevent periodontal diseases but a low degree of awareness of its effect to prevent decayed teeth and of the necessity of mouth hygienic supplies. Second, they have a high level of awareness of the necessity and importance of scaling, but most of them do not have their teeth scaled periodically. To repeat, they have a high level of awareness of the necessity of dental examination, but not many of them put such awareness of theirs into practice. Third, married workers have a higher level of awareness of the hygiene of their mouth than unmarried ones do. The higher concern they have about the hygiene of their mouth, the more awareness they have of the hygiene of their mouth. Fourth, the higher monthly average income they have, the more frequently they put into practice their awareness of the hygiene of their mouth. And the poorer hygiene of their mouth they have, the more strongly they put into practice their awareness of the hygiene of their mouth.

  • In this study, to provide the implications of dental health care training direction in the future after researching the effect on the use of dental hygiene devices, data were collected from 320 patients who visited dental clinics located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do for about 6 months between December 2013 and May 2014. Among them, the following results were obtained by analyzing 299 copies accounting for 93.4% of the collected data after excluding 21 copies lacking in answer. It was shown that education about dental hygiene devices had statistically significant effects on the dependent variables, perception of dental hygiene devices (p<0.001). Based upon the results above, it is considered that for the sake of prevention of oral diseases, more opportunities to learn correct knowledge and usage of suitable dental hygiene devices for individual oral conditions should be provided for patients, and active patient education as well as the development, implementation and publicity of systematic and popular oral health education programs will contribute to improved oral health.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between senile eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma and oral health behaviors. Data from the Seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VII-2) were used to analyze oral health behaviors according to the presence of AMD and glaucoma. Demographics and oral behaviors were analyzed using the complex chi-square test and complex logistic regression to compare participants with AMD and glaucoma with those without AMD and glaucoma. According to the presence or absence of AMD and glaucoma, there were statistically significant differences in age, education level, oral care product use, and difficulty in speaking variables. The results of this study provide evidence of a significant association in some variables between oral behaviors and senile eye diseases.

The major variables were all positively correlated. Among the factors of subjective oral health status affecting the oral health-related quality of life, the influences of mastication (p<0.001) and halitosis (p<0.05) were significant. • The purposes of this study was to confirm the current issues of workforce policy of dental auxiliary personnel in Korea. The literature review and data collection were conducted in terms of the auxiliary personnel supply, regional distribution, legal works, working environment. Despite the rapid increase in the number of dental hygienists, the number of active dental hygienists is less than half of the total, and the dental clinics still experience the shortage. Considering the dental hygienist's work, the available dental auxiliary personnel for the dental assistance is limited. The proportion of dental hygienists is concentrated in large cities, and the ratio of dental clinics composed of only dental hygienists is high. Thus, it is essential to look for a plan to solve the disparity. The criterion for judging the legality of the works is ambiguous because a large portion of dental hygienist's work is not specified in the Medical Technicians Act. The job life is also shortened, and occupational profession and satisfaction are lowered. Thus, job burnout is accelerating. The difference between the legal works and the practiced works of dental hygienist and the conflict between the personnel might be due to the lack of utilization plans for the dental personnel at the government level. Therefore, the government should establish the roles of dental hygienist in accordance with the demands of the dental health service, institutionalize the necessary policies accordingly, and make efforts to establish plans to improve the relevant laws and utilize the manpower appropriately.
