  • To provide basic data necessary to develop an efficient sealant project as a public oral health project, this study applied a sealant through a photodimerization method to first-graders from public primary schools in the Dong-gu Health Center in Incheon and conducted a survey on favor and knowledge of the sealant project with their parents and, consequently, obtained the following results. 1. 84.7% of the parents knew a sealant and most of them got the knowledge from a dental clinic (35.7%) or a school (31.6%). 2. A large majority of respondents (86.2%) were satisfied with sealant application; many parents (75.8%) checked for maintenance of the sealant; and 75.6% demanded reexamination after sealant application. 3. As factors associated with acceptance of a sealant, high recognition of a sealant, much experience of visiting a dental clinic, and parents' great concern about children's dental health were related to high sealant application. To put the results together, it is desirable to develop the sealant project by the Dong-gu Health Center in Incheon actively as a public oral health project.

  • Introduction : Oral motor function is basic function of sensory exploration, feeding, and communication, that develops from the fetal stage to childhood. Problems with oral motor function result in difficulty within handling food in the oral cavity, decreased swallowing and feeding skills, difficulty with communication, and problems with oral hygiene. To treat these symptoms, oral motor therapy is provided for normalizing sensory adaptation in the oral cavity, and increasing postural control, oral movement and oral motor function. Discussion : The oral motor facilitation technique (OMFT) was developed for increasing general and integrated oral motor function based on the following: 1) understanding orofacial muscular physiology; 2) a comprehensive approach to sensory·adaptation·behavior·cognition; 3) sensorimotor stimulation by a manual approach; 4) motor control and motor learning theory. The OMFT is a new evidence-based treatment protocol, for children and adults with neuromuscular and oral motor problems. Conclusion : The goal of this article is to provide a theoretical background for OMFT development and the basic concept for the clinical application of OMFT. We hope that this article will help oral motor therapy experts to provide effective therapy in a more professional way.

  • This study was conducted on 1,865 drunk elderly people who had teeth that were over 65 years old. As a result of analysis of factors related to tooth extraction, the higher the income, the lower the income, the higher the risk of having to remove teeth from smokers, poorer oral health status, and no oral hygiene products. The difference was statistically significant. In order to identify the risk factors of tooth extraction for the elderly and prevent tooth loss early and to extend the life of residual teeth as much as possible, it is necessary to improve the drinking culture and seek oral health care strategies in the previous life cycle, not the present, Oral health policy should be pursued.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship that adolescent stress perception level has with dietary habits and oral health behaviors in high school students. A survey of high school students in some areas of the Jeollabuk-do province of South Korea was conducted. Five hundred fourteen survey responses were used in the final analysis. As a result of the questionnaire survey, the following conclusions were obtained. The highest stress type was indicated to be academic stress (mean${\pm}$standard deviation [SD], $3.09{\pm}0.89$). The next was shown to be home (family) stress (mean${\pm}$SD, $2.85{\pm}0.84$). The possibility of using a dental clinic was indicated to be less in girls than boys (p<0.001). Regarding subjective oral health behavior, the possibility of visiting a dental clinic was low in those who thought that their own oral health condition was not good or moderate (p<0.05). Also, it was shown that the higher stress led to the higher possibility of visiting a dental clinic (p<0.01). Students with higher grades had a in the upper ranks were indicated to have high possibility of having a regular meal (p<0.01). Higher stress led to the significantly higher possibility of eating cariogenic food (p<0.01). Students with median grades had a high possibility of eating cariogenic food (p<0.01), while students with higher grades had a low possibility of eating cariogenic food (p<0.05). These resultss show that stress perception level influences dietary habits and oral health behaviors. Thus, there is a need to develop a program in high scholls to promote the physical and mental health of students to relieve stress. Substantial and systematic oral health education is thought to be likely needed to develop desirable dietary habits.
