Concerning connections between gender and subjective oral symptoms, gender had a statistically significant relationship to temporomandibular joint dysfunction(p=0.000), dry mouth(p=0.001) and halitosis(p=0.006). The men underwent more oral symptoms than the women. 3. As for the relationship of mastication(p=0.000), oral pain(p=0.010), temporomandibular joint dysfunction(p=0.010) and dry mouth(p=0.001) to subjective oral health state, the elderly people who were not in a good oral health suffered more oral symptoms, and the gap between them and the others was statistically significant. 4. A larger number of tooth led to less mastication difficulties, less dry mouth and more gingival diseases, and the relationship between the factors was statistically significant. A better oral health state led to less mastication difficulties, less oral pain, less dry mouth and less bad breath, and the relationship between the factors was statistically significant. Through this study the oral health the elderly people perceive wss concerned with oral symptom, and the number of residual teeth also had links to subjective oral symptoms. Therefore, to maintain original teeth of the elderly people, the management system of oral health and the education program for oral health in order to prevent disease relateded with oral and enhance the perception standard of oral state are indispensably necessary to the elderly people.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of the self-rated peridontal health status of dental patients and the type of their treatment(implant, orthodontic treatment and general treatment) to the quality of life(happiness index), to investigate influential factors for oral health, and ultimately to provide some information on the development of oral health care programs geared toward boosting the happiness index. The subjects in this study were the patients who visited dental hospitals and clinics in Busan and South Gyeongsang Province. As for relationship between the field of treatment and the happiness index, the patients who received orthodontic treatment scored higher in both each itemand all the five items, and the patients who received implant treatment scored lower. Regarding links between self-rated periodontal health status and the happiness index, the patients who had no oral symptoms scored higher in both each item and all the five items, and the respondents whose self-rated health status and self-rated oral health status were both very good scored higher in the happiness index. The preparation of oral health programs that aim to improve the self-rated oral health of patients who visit dental hospitals or clinics is required.
This study was conducted with 200 outpatients and inpatients of military hospitals around the northern region of Gyeonggi-Do. 182 questionnaires in 200 copies were returned, which meant that the return rate was 91%. 180 questionnaires were used for analysis because 2 questionnaires included untrustful responses. The questionnaires were filled by the subjects for 20 days from Dec. 1, 2008 to Dec. 20, 2008. First, in accordance with the examination on the awareness and knowledge on the dental caries, periodontal disease and oral health care, the awareness on the prevention of dental caries was 18.733 points in 25 full points. Second, for the examination on the oral health status according to the interest and education related to oral health care, the interest and oral health status showed the statistically significant relationship(P=0.0083). Third, in accordance with the analysis on the relationship between oral health status and awareness and knowledge on oral health care, for the awareness on the prevention of dental caries, the answer "Not healthy" was 19.188 points, the answer "Average" 18.210 points and the answer "Healthy" 18.971 points. In conclusion, the higher the interest on the education and oral health care was, the better the behavior for oral health care and oral health status were. As a result, the oral health care is essential for each individual to keep good health status. For keeping and deploying the best fighting power in the military and the country, the oral health program shall be pushed ahead as the key project to keep the good oral status of soldiers.
The aim of this research was to analyze the differences for the oral health status of the elderly people living in the long-term care facilities and the non-resident elderly. The study was conducted on 469 elderly people of the same age, gender and basic living conditions. Elderly residing in long-term care facilities had higher dental caries prevalence(p=0.019), DT(p=0.001), and MT(p=0.047) than non-resident elderly, and had lower FT(p<0.001) than non-resident elderly. The elderly living in facilities were 1.93 times more likely to be caries than non-residents, and 0.73 times more likely to have a filled tooth. The probability of denture use was 0.15 times for the maxillary and 0.13 times for the mandibular. The probability of denture needs was 5.61 times for the maxillary and 5.65 times for the mandibular. All of these results showed significant differences. As a result of this, it can be used as basic data for establishing oral health policy for oral health promotion of the elderly living in Long-term care facilities.

This study aims to determine the effect of e-cigarettes on oral health by investigating the association between the use of different tobacco products and oral health among Korean adults aged 19 years and older. Data from the 2017 Community Health Survey were used for the study. Respondents were divided into four groups: non-smokers, cigarette smokers, e-cigarette smokers, and users of both products. A sample of 228,357 respondents was selected for analysis. Twenty-four questionnaires with missing values (non-response or refusal) were excluded from the sample. A regression analysis was performed with oral as the dependent variable. A multivariate regression analysis showed a significant difference between cigarette smokers and users of both products when compared to the non-smokers. However, e-cigarette users showed a significant when the variables were correlated with age and gender. There was no significant difference in other dependent variables in a multivariate regression analysis. The results of the study indicated no association between e-cigarette use and oral health. More research is needed on factors such as amount and intensity of e-cigarette use.
Objectives: This case study was conducted to assess changes in the concentration of volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) of older adults following home oral health care interventions based on community care. Methods: The participants were three elderly people with the halitosis. An oral health intervention programs including oral massage, oral hygiene care, and oral muscle training strenghtening were conducted for 12 weeks. Halitosis was measured using an oral malodor-checking device. Results: The program showed positive effects on changes in halitosis. The concentration of VSCs of the first case decreased rapidly from 44.5 Refres Oral Volume (ROV) on pre-test to 15.5 ROV on the first post-test. In the second case, the score decreased from 14.5 ROV on pre-test to 12 ROV on 2nd post-test. In the third case, the score decreased slightly from 6.5 ROV on pre-test to 6 ROV on the first post-test. Conclusions: Oral health care interventions contributed to decreasing the concentration of VSCs and improving the quality of life of older adults. The active promotion and customization of these programs are required.
