Posterior cross-bite is a relatively frequent malocclusion in primary and early mixed dentition and the reported prevalence of posterior cross-bite varies from 7% to 23%. It has been defined as a transverse discrepancy in arch relationship which the palatal cusp of the upper posterior teeth do not occlude in the central fossa of the opposing lower teeth, and can be manifested in a single tooth or in a group of teeth. Posterior cross-bite does not often self-correct and therefore immediate treatment is recommended. Occlusal adjustment to eliminate premature contact that causes mandibular deviation, expansion of narrow maxillary arch, arrangement of the individual teeth to treat asymmetry within the dental arch are the methods of treating cross-bite. In the present case, functional posterior cross-bite was observed in the primary and the early mixed dentition children. The children were treated by the slow maxillary expansion and occlusal adjustment. The outcome of periodic examinations after the correction of cross-bite was favorable.

In a case of multiple posterior teeth loss, antagonistic teeth extrude to the edentulous space and compensatory occlusion on the remained anterior teeth leads to occlusal trauma. Extrusion of antagonistic teeth breaks down occlusion plane and loss of posterior support bring about severe wear of remained teeth. In this situation, it is needed to restore remained teeth and edentulous space by increasing vertical dimension to obtain prosthodontic rehabilitation space and to correct occlusion plane. In this case report, the patient had a masticatory problem with loss of posterior teeth support and an esthetic problem of shortened anterior teeth. Before the tooth preparation for the prosthodontic restoration, the patient used removable device for 2 months to increase vertical dimension reversibly. After that, he got provisional fixed restoration with irreversible tooth reduction and used it for 3 months. It had spent 5 month to evaluate the adaptation state on final restoration with incresed vertical dimension. The increasing amount was 3 mm, which was relatively in less degree and masticatory system adapted to the increased vertical dimension without any pathologic changes. Final restoration was made to have equal-intensity contacts on all teeth in a verifiable centric relations and immediate disclusion of all posterior contacts the moment the mandible moves in any direction from centric relation. In addition, metal occlusion surface on posterior teeth was applied to prevent excessive muscle activation, occlusal trauma and the porcelain fracture.

When the patient with class III malocclusion needs extensive oral rehabilitation due to multiple missing teeth, accurate diagnosis, and careful analysis, such as the patient's occlusal relationship, facial changes, and evaluation of the temporomandibular joint are essential. Orthognathic surgery is often performed for aesthetic improvement, depending on the patient's chief complaint. If it is not possible due to certain circumstances, partial aesthetic improvement can be achieved through minimal elevation of the vertical dimension. As this patient may have unexpected issues, such as temporomandibular joint disorder, oral habits like bruxism, and masticatory muscle tension, it was determined whether the patient could adjust to a reversible temporary removable partial denture. After this, the maxillary implant-supported fixed prostheses and the mandibular fixed prostheses were used to achieve stable posterior support and to partially improve the maxillary anterior esthetics. The patient was satisfied with the results both aesthetically and functionally. The prognosis is expected to be good if regular check-ups are conducted.

If the maxillomandibular relationship is unstable or requires treatment for improved function and esthetics, the first treatment objective is to provide stable occlusal contacts. The patient has moderate mental retardation. Due to inadequate vertical overjet, horizontal arch malrelation and excessive tooth loss, full mouth rehabilitation was required. The purpose of treatment planning is to establish physiologic maxillomandibular relation. Using cephalometrics for occlusal analysis is an aid to make a decision. The amount of horizontal bone reduction was calculated with evaluating soft tissue profile. After provisional denture placement, healing of the surgical site and newly adapted arch relationship was evaluated. The patient satisfied with esthetics and showed stable holding contacts. Periodic examination is needed to exclude occlusal disharmony.

Anterior tooth spacing is observed by pathological tooth movement (PTM), which is common in periodontal patients. And various occlusal factors contribute to PTM, especially in the maxillary anterior region, when there is excessive occlusal force, flaring due to position problem easily occurs. Teeth with loss of periodontal support tissue can secure stability when expanding the support area through intentional splinting, and change the occlusion when restored as a fixed prosthesis. After confirming the stable occlusion through the provisional prosthesis, it can be transferred to the final prosthesis through CAD-CAM. In this case, we present a long-term stable case through accurate diagnosis and treatment of the maxillary anterior teeth that have lost interdental contact.
Excessive occlusal wear results in unacceptable damage to the occluding surfaces, and can cause pulpal injury, occlusal disharmony, impaired function, and aesthetic deformity. Patients with severely worn dentition need to be classified as several categories relative to the vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) and the interocclusal distance for the prosthetic space. When treating patients classified as those who have excessive wear without loss of occlusal vertical dimension but with limited space, we could consider treating them at an increased vertical dimension of occlusion. Treatments at an increased vertical dimension of occlusion may provide stability, given that the amount of its increase was minimal, and a perfected occlusion was achieved after enough stabilization period. A 50-year-old male visited the department of Prosthodontics in Yonsei University Dental Hospital with the chief complaint of worn teeth on lower anterior area. Reconstruction at an increased vertical dimension of occlusion was planned. After the compatibility of the new vertical dimension of occlusion had been confirmed under interim fixed restorations, definitive fixed restorations composed of full-contour monolithic zirconia prostheses were placed. This case presents that a satisfactory clinical result was achieved by restoring the worn dentition at an increased vertical dimension of occlusion with an improvement in esthetics and function.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate a possible occlusal contributing factor on the pathogenesis of temporomandibular joint sound by a new computer aided method for analysis of occlusal contact. 20 subjects without temporomandibular joint sound as control group and 20 subjects with temporomandibular joint sound as experimental group in the TMJ clinic, dental infirmary, School of Dentistry, Chosun University were selected so as to investigate the distribution and intensity of the bilateral occlusal contacts on silicone rubber bites in habitual intercusal position through a computer aided system. The following results were obtained : 1. The distribution and intensity of the occlusal contact could be analyzed and expressed as color density value per levels by this computer aided method. 2. There was not statistical significance between control and experimental group in total occlusal contacts. 3. There was statistical significance between control and experimental group In the total difference of right and left occlusal contacts.(P<0.05).
An objective examination of 123 subjects aged from 19 to 23 was made from a clinical standpoints to determine the natural occurrence in anterior tooth contact in centric occlusion, and tooth contact in protrusive occlusion, left and right lateral excursions, and temporomandibular dysfunction. 1. In centric occlusion, maxillary 6 anterior contact type was frequently observe (30.08%) compared with other types of contact (incisor contact: 19.47%, no contact: 17.70%, canine and incisor contact: 15.04%, canines contact: 12.39%, unilateral canine contact: 5.31%) (P<0.01) 2. In protrusive position (edge to edge bite), maxillary central incisors contact was predominant (86.7%). (P<0.01) 3. In lateral excursion, there was not any significant difference between canine guided occlusion (47.79%) and group function occlusion (total 51.32%, AG:9.29%, PG:13.27%, G:28.76%). 4. Temporomandibular joint dysfunction was observed in 12.4% of 123 subjects.

The purpose of this study was to make the stress distribution produced by simulated different load under two types of internal connection implant system (stepped and tapered type) by means of 3D finite element analysis, The finite element model was designed with the parallel placement of the one fixtures ($4.0mm{\times}11.5mm$) with reverse buttress thread on the mandibular 1st molar. Two models were loaded with 200 N magnitude in the vertical direction on the central position of the crown, the 1.5 mm and 3 mm buccal offset point from the central position of the fixture. The oblique load was applied at the angle of $30^{\circ}$ on the crown surface. Von Mises stress value was recorded and compared in the fixture-bone interface in the bucco-lingual dimension. The results were as follows; 1. The loading conditions of two internal connection implant systems (stepped and tapered type) were the main factor affecting the equivalent bone strain, followed by the type of internal connections. 2. The stepped model had more mechanical stability with the reduced max. stress compared to $11^{\circ}$ tapered models under the distributed oblique loading. 3. The more the contact of implant-abutment interface to the inner wall of implant fixture, the less stress concentration was reduced.

Trauma from occlusion(TFO) is injury to the periodontal tissue as a result of occlusal forces. Mobility is a common clinical sign of occlusal trauma. In acute occlusal trauma, this may be accomanied by pain, tenderness to percussion, thermal sensitivity, and pathologic tooth migration. Chronic occlusal trauma may be marked by excessive wear and gingival recession. Radiographic finding include a widened periodontal ligament space, radiolucence and condensation of the alveolar bone and root resorption. TFO is related to the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. It can cause increased tooth mobility TFO itself does not initate or aggravate marginal gingivitis or initiate periodontal pockets. Active trauma can accelerate bone loss, pocket formation and gingival recession depending on the presence of local irritants and inflammation. Gingival recession associated with occlusal forces includes traumatic crescent, McCall's festoon and Stillman's cleft. TFO plays a minor role in the pathogenesis of early to moderate periodontitis. A 5-year-old male visited Yonsei University Pedodontics clinic with a chief complaint about gingival recession. Mobility, excessive wear, gingival recession were detected by clinical exam on the both mandibular deciduous ca nine. On the radiographic view, vertical alveolar bone loss was observed on both mandibular deciduous canine.
