The purpose of this study was to analyze the positions of upper and lower incisors according to facioskeletal patterns. The lateral cephalometric radiographs of sixty persons with normal occlusion, forty persons with Class II Division 1 malocclusion, and forty persons with Class III malocclusion all above the age of 18, were analyzed. The following results were obtained. 1. C I angle, the measurement related to masticatory system, were $89.20{\pm}4.34^{\circ}$ in normal occlusion group, $81.68{\pm}士5.95^{\circ}$ in Class II Division 1 malocclusion group and $101.96{\pm}6.31^{\circ}$ in Class III malocclusion group. 2. In comparison with the positions of upper and lower incisors according to facioskeletal patterns, Class II Division 1 malocclusion group showed that upper incisors were different significantly in all measurements and inclined labially (P < 0.05). Lower incisors were different significantly in all measurements except LI-APog, LI-APog (mm), LI-AB, LI-AB (mm) and inclined labially (P < 0.05), Class III malocclusion group showed that upper incisors were different significantly in all measurements except UI-SN, UI-OP, and inclined labially (P < 0.05). Lower incisors were different significantly in all measurements and inclined lingually (P < 0.05). 3. In all facioakeletal patterns, LI-SN and LI-PH ware correlated moderately to facioskeletal measurements, and FMA was correlated moderately to measurements of lower incisor position. 4. Regardless of the facioskeletal patterns, the reference planes equally applicable were AB line in the measurements of upper incisor and APog line in the measurements of lower incisor.
This study was investigated to assess the difference of facial height and occlusal plane inclination between pre- and post-treatment in Class I malocclusion group The subjects consisted of 35 extraction patients and 30 nonextraction patient,;, and was subdivided into Group I(overbite<0mm), Group II(04mm) in reference to overbite, and adolescent group and adult group in reference to age. Lateral cephalogram was taken with standard method, traced, and digitized for each subject. The computerized statistical analysis was carried out with SAS program The results wolf as follows. 1. In both groups of extraction and nonextraction group the anterior facial height increased after orthodontic treatment but there was no significant difference(p>0.05) between each goup. 2. There was no statstical significance in change of occlusal plane inclination in adolescent group, but significant difference(p<0.05) among three subgroup in adult group. 3. In adolescent-extraction and adolescent-nonextraction group there was significant increase of anterior facial height and posterior facial height, and was superior to adult groups in posterior facial height increment. 4 In all groups upper and lower molars were uprighted to occlusal plane. This had statistically significant effect.
In this study, Receiver Operating Characteristic(ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the ability of cephalometric measurements to identify patients with Class III malocclusions. ROC analysis is the method for determining the validity of a diagnostic measure and for evaluating the relative value of diagnostic tests. The sample consisted of 496 patients with malocclusion. Class III malocclusion is defined as the dental relationship for which The mesiobuccal groove of the lower first molar is deviated mesially from the mesiobuccal cusp of the upper first molar. Of the total sample of 496 patients, 245 had Class III malocclusions. 16 cephalometric measurements were selected, each of which was treated as a diagnostic test. The ROC curves were generated for each cephalometric measurement with intervals of $1.0^{\circ}$ for angular measurements, 1.0mm for linear measurements. The area under the ROC curves was measured for direct comparison among different diagnostic tests. The results were as follows; 1. The 'Wits' appraisal was found to be a better diagnostic criterion for the presence of Class III malocclusion than any other commonly'used cephalometric measurement. 2. AB plane angle, ANB angle, App-Bpp distance, AF-BF distance, APDI, Distance of point A and Pog to N perpendicular, maxillomandibular differential had high diagnostic value. 3. Cephalometric measurements which evaluate the position of the mandible had moderate diagnostic value. 4. Cephalometric measurements related to the maxilla discriminated least between patients with and without Class III malocclusion.
The purpose of this study was to quantitate differences in the nature of the correction of Angle's Class II div 1 malocclusion dependent on the patient's age at the time of treatment. The sample consisted of 27 female patients in the adolescent group with a mean initial records age of 11.8 years and 25 female patients in the adult group with a mean starting age of 21.1 yrs. Lateral cephalometric head films were taken before and after orthodontic treatment with four bicuspid extraction. The results were obtained as follows. 1. None of maxillary skeletal parameters exhibited a significantly different in treatment change between adolescents and adults. But, in mandibular skeletal measurements, there were significant differences between two groups. (P<0.05) 2. Measures of vertical dimension in the adults remained unchanged during treatment, reflecting the effective absence of growth. 3. The steepness of occlusal plane in the adults changed significantly.(P<0.05) In contrast, the adolescents displayed stability of the occlusal plane. 4. According to the Johnston analysis, there was a significant difference in the total molar correction between two groups.(P<0.05) 5. According to the Johnston analysis, differential mandibular growth in the adolescents contrubuted $63\%$ of the total molar correction, with orthodontic tooth movement accounting for the remaining $37\%$. In the adults, dental movement comprised $99\%$ of the correction.

The purpose of this study is to analyze dentoalveolar compensation in normal occlusion samples previously classified into 9 skeletal types, and to provide clinically applicable diagnostic criteria for individual malocclusion patients. Cephalometric measurements of the 294 normal occlusion samples previously divided into 9 types were analyzed. The descriptive features of dentoalveolar variables were compared for the 9 types using analysis of variance, followed by post hoc multiple comparisons. In addition, the correlation between skeletal and dentoalveolar variables were analyzed. Discriminant analysis with a stepwise entry of variables was designed to find out several potential variables for use in skeletal typing. The dentoalveolar compensation pattern of the skeletal types varied, especially with regards to the variables that indicated the inclination of incisors and the occlusal plane. Stepwise variable selection identified four variables: AB-MP, SN-AB, PMA and ANB. Discriminant analysis assigned a classification accuracy of $87.8\%$ to the predictive model. On the basis of these results, this study could provide rudimentary information for the development of diagnostic criteria and treatment guidelines for individual skeletal types.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical outcome in the mandibular posterior region between two different loading conditions by finite element analysis. Materials and Methods: The mandibular posterior teeth model and the implant model were generated for the study. And 2 different types of loading conditions were provided: Arbitrary occlusion and natural occlusion obtained from the digital occlusal analyzer, Accura (Accura, Dmetec Co. Ltd., Seoul, Korea). Total load of 100 N was evenly distributed over arbitrary occlusion points, and 100 N load was differentially distributed over natural occlusion points according to Accura data. The biomechanical outcome was evaluated by the finite element analysis software. Results: The result of finite element analysis showed considerable difference in both von Mises stress pattern and displacement under different loading conditions. Conclusion: In finite element analysis, it is recommended to simulate a realistic occlusal loading pattern that is based on accurate measurement.
The collapse of the posterior occlusion destroys the normal occlusal plane and causes excessive wear reducing the vertical dimension. Reduced vertical dimension of occlusion causes not only aesthetic and functional problems but also overloading on the temporomandibular joints and abnormalities of muscle nerve system. In order to improve the collapsed occlusal relationship, it is necessary to consider the change of the vertical dimension. It is necessary to make a precise diagnosis and analysis before the treatment and to evaluate the adaption of patient to the new vertical dimension of occlusion. A patient with excessive overbite often has occlusal problems of tooth wear and tooth eruption. Considering these considerations, overall prosthodontic restoration is required to solve the problem. A patient of 68 year old man in this case who suffered major tooth wear and maxillary posterior teeth loss was treated with elevation of vertical dimension of occlusion by maxillary removable dental prosthesis and mandibular fixed prosthesis.

Gradual teeth wear is normal physiological progress, severe tooth wear can causes dysfunction, occlusal plane disharmony and esthetic problems. If additional space is needed for prosthetic restoration due to severe attrition, full mouth rehabilitation with increase of occlusal vertical dimension may be considered. In this case, 72 year old male patient with severe worn dentition, irregular gingival zenith and deep anterior bite was treated by full mouth rehabilitation for regaining the space for restoration, improving relationship and esthetic of anterior teeth. Provisional restoration obtained by systemic analysis, diagnosis and re-evaluation for a sufficient time was replicated to final restorations through double scanning technique using monolithic zirconia blocks. Satisfactory functional and esthetic outcomes were obtained.
In cases of extensive prosthetic restoration, correction of occlusal contact is often needed, as it is the essential component for a successful restoration. If occlusal contact is given incorrectly, various symptoms of occlusal trauma can occur of which temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is one of them. As one of the common symptoms of TMD, patients may suffer with masticatory muscle disorder and temporomandibular joint pain. This case presents satisfactory results for the improvement of masticatory muscles and temporomandibular joint pain of a TMD patient, caused by incorrect occlusal contact of the restoration, by replacing the prosthesis after occlusion correction.
Decrease of occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) due to loss of teeth structure and destruction of the occlusal plane by severely worn dentition may cause cross bite or temporomandibular joint disorder by following change of facial feature or the loss of anterior guidance. Full mouth rehabilitation via an increase of the OVD can be considered to avoid this problem and proper evaluation of patient's OVD is essential. An 80 year old male visited for overall prosthodontic treatment, cross bite due to continuous wear and following decrease of the OVD were observed. We analyzed the existing occlusal relationship using the diagnostic cast, the radiographic evaluation and clinical test, and then proper increase of OVD was selected. The new OVD on diagnostic wax up was placed by the temporary restoration. After 3 months of observation period, final restoration with fixed partial dentures and implant overdenture were made. Throughout the follow-up period of 8 months, the aesthetic and functional improvement can be obtained.
