A Forecasting Model for the Possibility of Traveling a New Link Using Time and Spatial Characteristics of Networks (Network의 시공간적 특성을 이용한 신설도로의 이용가능성 예측모형 개발)

  • When forecasting demand for a new road, a select link analysis is usually used to understand the OD pairs that send trips along paths that use the selected link (i.e., the new road). These OD pairs and their associated volumes are listed in a select link analysis. However, there is no research about other methods to obtain these results, so experts are almost always dependent on select link analysis results to obtain these results. The purpose of this study is to propose a model with a different approach from select link analysis to obtain the previously mentioned results. Time and spatial characteristics of networks are used in this new approach. Select link analysis results are used as a comparison index for the results by the proposed model. Also, two case studies (interzonal trips and intracity trips) are performed to validate the significance of the model. Consequently, a correlation coefficient between the results by the proposed model and the comparison index shows high significance: 0.82.

The Production of Sex Determined Cattle by Embryonic Sexing Using Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization Technique (FISH 기법을 이용한 소 수정란의 성감별과 산자 생산)

  • Sexing from bovine embryos fertilized in vitro implicates a possibility of the sex controlled cattle production. This study was carried out to produce the sex determined cattle through the embryonic sexing by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technique. FISH was achieved in in vitro fertilized bovine embryos using a bovine Y-specific DNA probe constructed from the btDYZ-1 sequence. Using this probe, a male-specific signal was detected on 100% of Y-chromosome bearing metaphase specimens. The analyzable rate of embryonic sexing by FISH technique was about 93% (365/393) regardless of embryonic stages. As tested single blastomere by FISH and then karyotype with their biopsied embryos, the accuracy of sex determination with FISH was 97.6%. We tried the embryo transfer with sex determined embryos on 15 cattle. Among them, the 5 cattle delivered calf with expected sex last year.

Evaluation on De-Icing Salts Laden Environment of Road in Seoul (제설제에 노출된 서울시내 도로 시설물의 열화 환경 분석)

  • De -icing salts have been used commonly in areas where snow or ice is a seasonal safety hazard for roadway, however, the salts is one of main causes on serious deterioration of road infrastructures in crowded urban city like Seoul. In order to establish maintenance strategy of road infrastructures under de-icing salts laden environment, it is necessary to examine environmental characteristics and its response to the existing facilities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the deterioration environment of road infrastructures. Additional purpose is to develop a design model and details for durability design of infrastructures under de-icing salts laden environment, considering mainly a build-up rate of surface chlorides. Concentration of external chloride solution and surface chloride content were calculated at the level of average de-icing salts for 5 years, ratio of auxiliary road of 17.5 to 30%, and effective exposure area to snow 50 to 80%. The chloride build-up rate was 0.073 ~ 0.077% / year and the maximum surface chloride content was calculated to be 2.2 ~ 2.31% by concrete wt. This study is expected to be used for establishing integrated strategy of road infrastructures, such as predicting chloride profiles or degree of chemical corrosion to exposure concrete.

  • 기후변화 위기는 유사 이래 인류가 직면한 가장 큰 도전으로 범정부적 글로벌 문제로서 이를 해결하기 위한 다양한 정책들이 범국가 차원 혹은 세계적 기업들에 의해 발표 혹은 시행되고 있다. 이러한 기후변화위기와 탄소배출 저감을 위한 대표적인 대응 방안 중 하나가 바로 재생에너지의 확대·보급 노력이다. 그러나 재생에너지는 날씨와 계절 등 자연환경의 영향을 받는 에너지원으로써 간헐성, 변동성을 가지므로, 시간대별 발전량 예측과 전력공급 안정성에 어려움이 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 재생에너지 발전은 석탄화력 발전과 달리 전력의 수요와 공급의 균형을 위한 에너지저장장치(Energy Storage System, 이하 ESS)가 있어야 한다. ESS는 전력공급 안정성 향상과 전력 수급의 유연성을 제공하는 장점이 있지만, 초기 설치비용이 높은 단점이 있다. 특히, 배터리 기반 ESS의 경우 높은 구축 비용과 한정적인 충. 방전수명으로 인하여 대용량 ESS로써의 역할 수행에는 분명한 한계가 있다. 하지만 재생에너지와 연계한 ESS로 양수발전댐을 활용할 경우 장주기, 장수명, 대용량 에너지 저장에 매우 합리적인 수단으로 판단되었다. 다만, 양수발전 댐 구축에는 토목공사로 인한 환경 훼손이라는 문제점도 존재한다. 본 고에서는 지역 분산형 소규모 양수발전(Pumped Storage Hydropower, 이하 PSH)댐 구축 및 운영기술 개발을 통해 지역 전력공급과 전력 수급을 조절하면서 변동성 재생에너지를 안정적으로 사용할 수 있는 방안을 소개하고자 한다. 특히, 해당 기술은 지역별 특성에 맞춰 유연하게 설치할 수 있으며, 대규모 토목공사로 의한 환경적 부작용을 최소화할 수 있다. 또한 소규모 PSH는 지역의 저수지 및 수자원을 이용하여 에너지를 저장함으로써 변동성 큰 재생에너지의 유연화 대응과 동시에 안정적인 에너지 공급이 가능하다. 본 고에서는 재생에너지의 확대·보급에 따른 문제점과 대표적 ESS 기술들을 분석·소개한다. 지역분산형 소규모 PSH 기술개발 연구기획 내용 소개를 통하여 전력 생산 및 공급의 탈중앙화를 달성하고, 지역별 변동성 재생에너지의 안정적 활용과 지역 전력공급 특성 및 전력 수급에 대응할 수 있는 방안을 제안하고자 한다.

The Trip Generation Models with Time-effects (시간효과를 반영한 통행발생모형 개발)

  • This research introduces a trip generation model reflecting time-series effects derived from a panel analysis with the data collected from the national household trip surveys conducted in 1996, 2002 and 2006. The existing methods are unable to reflect time-series effects from the change of socioeconomic conditions because the parameters applied to the model were basically from the base year of study - the parameter values were unchanged. This study proposes a new trip generation model developed through a panel analysis performed with the data collected from the last three national household trip surveys. From the results, it was found that the number of school trips increases and that the number of shopping trips decreases as time passes. The results showed that there are time-series effects affecting in trip generation.

Traffic-Flow Forecasting using ARIMA, Neural Network and Judgment Adjustment (신경망, 시계열 분석 및 판단보정 기법을 이용한 교통량 예측)

  • During the past few years, various traffic-flow forecasting models, i.e. an ARIMA, an ANN, and so on, have been developed to predict more accurate traffic flow. However, these models analyze historical data in an attempt to predict future value of a variable of interest. They make use of the following basic strategy. Past data are analyzed in order to identify a pattern that can be used to describe them. Then this pattern is extrapolated, or extended, into the future in order to make forecasts. This strategy rests on the assumption that the pattern that has been identified will continue into the future. So ARIMA or ANN models with its traditional architecture cannot be expected to give good predictions unless this assumption is valid; The statistical models in particular, the time series models are deficient in the sense that they merely extrapolate past patterns in the data without reflecting the expected irregular and infrequent future events Also forecasting power of a single model is limited to its accurate. In this paper, we compared with an ANN model and ARIMA model and tried to combine an ARIMA model and ANN model for obtaining a better forecasting performance. In addition to combining two models, we also introduced judgmental adjustment technique. Our approach can improve the forecasting power in traffic flow. To validate our model, we have compared the performance with other models. Finally we prove that the proposed model, i.e. ARIMA + ANN + Judgmental Adjustment, is superior to the other model.

Construction of Speed Predictive Models on Freeway Ramp Junctions with 70mph Speed Limit (70mph 제한속도를 갖는 고속도로 연결로 접속부상에서의 속도추정모형에 관한 연구)

  • From the traffic analysis, and model constructions and verifications for speed prediction on the freeway ramp junctions with 70mph speed limit, the following results were obtained : ⅰ) The traffic flow distribution showed a big difference depending on the time periods. Especially, more traffic flows were concentrated on the freeway junctions in the morning peak period when compared with the afternoon peak period. ⅱ) The occupancy distribution was also shown to be varied by a big difference depending on the time periods. Especially, the occupancy in the morning peak period showed over 100% increase when compared with the 24hours average occupancy, and the occupancy in the afternoon peak period over 25% increase when compared with the same occupancy. ⅲ) The speed distribution was not shown to have a big difference depending on the time periods. Especially, the speed in the morning peak period showed 10mph decrease when compared with the 24hours'average speed, but the speed did not show a big difference in the afternoon peak period. ⅳ) The analyses of variance showed a high explanatory power between the speed predictive models(SPM) constructed and the variables used, especially the upstream speed. ⅴ) The analysis of correlation for verifying the speed predictive models(SPM) constructed on the ramp junctions were shown to have a high correlation between observed data and predicted data. Especially, the correlation coefficients showed over 0.95 excluding the unstable condition on the diverge section. ⅵ) Speed predictive models constructed were shown to have the better results than the HCM models, even if the speed limits on the freeway were different between the HCM models and speed predictive models constructed.

  • Once baggage demand of passengers is forecast, BHS requirements must be analyzed, i.e., the number of originating/transferring/terminating bags to be handled, the number of conveyor lines to be installed, the number of containers for baggage make-up, the number of claim devices for baggage claim, and so on. Therefore, the determination of the baggage traffic volume is one of the most important analysis components for the airport design. Accordingly, this research proposes time-based distribution table models in order to accurately estimate BHS requirements to obtain design criteria in airport design phase. As the BHS requirements are ascertained, related requirements of the facilities can be determined by applying actual specifications of devices, i.e., throughput. This research found that the proposed mathematical model gives a good reflection of IIA (Incheon International Airport)'s operational condition. That means the model provides apparent reliability and feasibility. Furthermore, the specifications of devices are the newest figures. This fact supports that the research provides more effcient and reliable results.

A Rule-Based Vehicle Tracking with Multiple Video Sequences (복수개의 동영상 시퀜스를 이용한 차량추적)

  • Automatic tracking of vehicles is important to accurately estimate the traffic information including vehicle speeds in video-based traffic measurement systems. Because of the limited field of view, the range of visual tracking with a single camera is restricted. In order to enlarge the tracking range for better chance of monitoring the vehicle behaviors, a tracking with consecutive multiple video sequences is necessary. This parer proposes a carefully designed rule-based vehicle racking scheme and apply it for the tracking for two well synchronized video sequences. In the scheme, almost all possible cases that can appear in the video-based vehicle tracking are considered to make rules. Also, the rule based scheme is augmented with Kalman filter. The result of tracking can be successfully used to collect data such as temporal variation of vehicle speed and behavior of individual vehicle behaviors in the enlarged tracking region.

  • The MEPDG(Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide) developed based on the AASHTO Design Guide helps engineers find optimal alternatives by using traffic volume, climate, material property, and pavement structure as its input parameters. However, because technical problems were found in the MEPDG, efforts to improve the program by settling the problems have been continued. Meanwhile, another mechanistic-empirical design program has been developed by the KPRP(Korea Pavement Research Program) in Korea. To develop and improve the Korean design program reasonably, it is necessary to analyze the MEPDG and then compare programs each other. For concrete pavement, fatigue cracking is predicted by using very complicated logic different from other performance indicators. Therefore, in this paper, transfer functions of the fatigue cracking used in the version of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.1 of the MEPDG were analyzed. Sensitivity of the input parameters to the cumulative fatigue damage was compared to each other by the MEPDG version and KPRP.
