  • The third criterion of ABEEK criteria, program curriculum, currently causes confusions and questions among those who are preparing the accreditation, because the requirements in division system for student majors, that many universities adopt in Korea, contradicts those in the ABEEK criteria in various aspects, and the accreditation is new to this country. This paper describes the development procedure of the program curriculum according to the provisions of the ABEEK criteria, and discusses the easiness of the procedure and the difficulties we encountered during the curriculum development. It is found that the third criterion for program curriculum is well documented and provides an acceptable guideline for the preparation of ABEEK accreditation, although there are several aspects to be improved or clarified.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate engineering students' attitude toward convergence and relevance with engineering education accreditation, gender, and academic year and attitude toward convergence. To be specific, fist, we examined whether the instrument for measuring attitudes toward convergence were reliable and valid for engineering students. Second, we compared levels of attitudes toward convergence in terms of engineering education accreditation, gender and academic year. Third, latent classes, which were distinguished in terms of attitudes toward convergence, were identified. Participants were 2076 engineering students. By using factor analysis and Rasch analysis, validity and reliability of instrument measuring attitudes toward convergence were confirmed. The differences in attitude toward convergence in terms of engineering education accreditation experience, gender, and academic year were examined by independent t-test and ANOVA. There were significant differences in attitude towards convergence in terms of engineering education accreditation, gender, and academic year. Students who experience engineering education accreditation program and male and high academic year have higher levels of attitude toward convergence than others. Lastly latent class analysis (LCA) was conducted to identify subgroups underlying engineering students in terms of attitude toward convergence and five latent classes were identified. In addition, the chi-square results showed that there were significant relationships between identified latent classes and engineering education accreditation, gender, and academic year. Based on these results, engineering education considering students' characteristics and diversity in attitude toward convergence were discussed.

  • Much effort went into the TILLS(Teacher's Information Literacy Licensing System) that Education Reform Committee had proposed and Offices of Education operate now. But TILLS is faced with a crisis due to some problem that makes difficulty of working well in process of running. Here we investigate the problem and suggest that is follows. First, we research for the meaning of "Teacher's Information Literacy" for establishing a pertinent estimate standard. Second, we analyse treatises and found some operational problem on that system. Third we suggest a strategy for promotion of that system.

  • The purpose of this study was to find improvement measures of the internal accreditation system which is spontaneously operated by A university. To do so, this study reviewed the historical backgrounds and current issues of A university's internal accreditation system mainly based on government's accreditation and financial support programs on higher education institutes. And, this study also analyzed qualitative data which were collected via interviews with members of the committee of internal accreditation and the minutes of accreditation related meetings. These procedures were conducted by using Nvivo 11, which is specially designed for the qualitative research method. The main results of this study were the following: the current issues that A university's internal accreditation system faced included the faculties' unwillingness to participate due to the administrative work load caused by the internal accreditation program, and the difficulties of the preparation of evaluation reports caused by the ambiguity of evaluation standards. The measures for improving A university's internal accreditation system included (1)offering the enough time and detailed information for the preparation of evaluation reports, and (2)providing the specific feedback and the consistent and systematic management, (3)establishing the ordinary recording system of achievement, (4)setting the standards for the renewal of accreditation, (5)setting the evaluation standards that considers the uniqueness of various faculties, and lastly, (6)providing the official templates for evaluation reports.

  • The Reading Certification System is a form of reading education, a program in which homeroom teachers or librarians certify and reward students' reading and reading activities in order to raise motivation for reading. This study investigates and analyzes the management of the Reading Certification System in elementary school libraries in Gapyeong County, indicating problems and providing ways to resolve them by examining theories on school libraries' reading education and the Reading Certification System through a documentary survey and by conducting a survey of librarians and students on the categories of management, effectiveness, satisfaction levels, reading activities and reading motivation factors. An analysis of the survey results yielded the following suggestions for improvement: there should be a recommended books selection, a separate budget for a diverse reward system and more reading activities for students with low participation levels. I hope the results of this paper will be used as a reference when implementing the Reading Certification System in elementary schools, and that it will be an opportunity in changing perspective when applying the system.

  • This study aims to develop a training program to strengthen the competency of peer tutors at A University and to establish a sustainable system. It was conducted in the process of developing, operating, evaluating, modifying, and supplementing the curriculum for about two years from January 2019 to February 2022. In-depth interviews, surveys, literature reviews, and expert surveys were used as research methods. The research results can be summarized as follows. First, by combining in-depth interviews and ranking of educational needs of peer tutors' competencies, the researchers designed peer tutors training curriculum and certification system, and these were certified by conducting expert surveys. Second, from March 2020 to the end of February 2022, peer tutor training and certification system were operated, and as a result of a satisfaction survey of students, 4.33 points on average in 2020 and 4.61 points on average in 21, indicating high satisfaction. Finally, the implications were discussed for establishing peer tutor training programs and system in universities.

  • This study was conducted to get the significant implications for the accreditation of engineering education in Korea from the case of Japan. We researched the terminology of 'accreditation', the outline, the current progress, and argument over the accreditation of engineering education in Japan. We suggested the seven implications for ABEEK. First, ABEEK has to use the engineering societies more in assessing the programs. Second, ABEEK should be flexible to meet the original goals. Third, ABEEK can use the observer system to train the examiners. Fourth, ABEEK needs to provide the real benefits to the students and accredited programs to encourage them to finish the accredited course. Fifth, the programs need to organize the committes in the direction that every faculty member can share the assessment results and execute the real course improvement. Sixth, ABEEK should permit the programs to use the curricular courses to check the achievement of program outcomes. And seventh, ABEEK needs to have meta-evaluation to exercise the reasonable authority.
