The Effects of SW Education Using EPL and Coding robot on the Computational thinking and Problem solving (EPL 및 코딩 로봇 활용 SW교육이 컴퓨팅 사고력과 문제해결력에 미치는 효과)

  • This study attempted to examine the effects of SW education using EPL and coding robots on computing thinking and problem-solving skills among various teaching and learning methods of software education. To this end, a survey was conducted on 350 students from middle schools A and B in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do, and the difference in mean was analyzed through t-verification and one-way analysis of variance in order to investigate the relationship between variables. Based on the research results obtained through this, we will identify the effects, strengths, and weaknesses of SW education using EPL and coding robots, provide basic data and information for efficient teaching and learning methods of SW education, and further suggest better directions in terms of academic and practical aspects.

  • It is the advantage of robot programming to improve the learners' interest. However, the drawback is existed in the fact that it is not easy to determine whether the problem lies in the hardware factor or programmed logic when an error takes place. This study is an attempt to develop a simulation tool which assists learners to concentrate on the problems not relating to robot assembling but to robot program. It aims to enable beginners make a sketch of their ideas and examine their logic through simulation. Therefore, an Etoys-based robot programming tool is developed to allows user to download and execute the simulated program into an assembled robot. The significance of this study is that easy activity of sketch-based simulation can support learners to understand how the principles of computer science are applied in daily life such as an automatic door system.

  • Research on intelligent robot is in active progress as the next generation IT education area. Since intelligent robots are closely related to the real human world, they should provide human behaviors or judging ability as their functions. For this reason, research is recently done not only on diverse hardware of robot education but also on service component architecture which includes various functions. In this paper we propose a study on learning to creative solve problems using RDS(Robotics Developer Studio). RDS is a software tool to control or program intelligence robot as a software module. Using service component framework which considers standardization of the integrated development of intelligent robot, we expect to provide 3-dimensional visual simulation environment, and save time and costs in education the environment for the intelligence robot experiment.

  • A maze-escaping method with cooperating work of robots alongside one another will be proposed in this paper. Educational robots can communicate each other using Zigbee; however, they can't solve problems together due to their lack of arithmetic function. The robots walk upright controlled by a motion program; furthermore, they recognize an intersection or a dead-end in the use of distant sensors with sending data and receiving commands from the central control system. The maze-search algorithms were modified so that all robots can effectively navigate the maze.

  • Robot systems have applied to manufacturing or industrial field for reducing the need for human presence in dangerous and/or repetitive tasks. However, robot applications are transformed from industrial field to human life in recent tendency Nowadays, final goal of robot is to make a intelligent robot that can understand what human say and learn by itself and have internal emotion. For example Home service robots are able to provice functions such as security, housework, entertainment, education and secretary To provide various functions, home robots need to recognize human`s requirement and environment, and it is indispensable to use artificial intelligence technology for implementation of home robots. In this paper, implemented robot system takes data from several sensors and fuses the data to recognize environment information. Also, it can select a proper behavior for environment using soft computing method. Each behavior is composed with intuitive motion and sound in order to let human realize robot behavior well.

  • In Korea, software education is implemented from elementary school. As a representative software education tool for elementary schools, various chess games reconstructed based on the rules of Western chess games are being used. On the other hand, Yutnori, one of our traditional games, also includes elements of software education, so research on this is needed. Therefore, in this study, a Yutnori program based on computational thinking using an educational programming language, Entry, and a turtle robot was developed and its validity verified. As a result of the validity verification, the CVR value was higher than 0.7 in the degree of agreement with the subject achievement standard (3 questions), the appropriateness of learning materials (4 questions), and the possibility of class application (3 questions). Therefore, it could be judged that the learning program developed in this study has a high level of agreement with the subject achievement standards, appropriate learning materials, and high possibility of being applied to classes. In order to generalize this content in the future, the effectiveness will need to be verified, and experimental research will be needed to understand this.

  • Software in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is becoming a key foundation in an intelligent information society. Therefore, it is necessary to study the new direction of manpower training and education that can cope with the times. To this end, the Ministry of Education reorganized the curriculum and is implementing software education based on a logical problem-solving process based on computing thinking skills rather than acquiring general ICT knowledge. However, there is a lack of securing high-quality educational content for software education, and there is also a lack of teaching aids that can be taught in connection with advanced IT technologies. To overcome this, this paper proposes the development of external expansion devices to expand educational content and functions capable of convergent software education such as artificial intelligence using coding robots for software education. Through this, effective software education is possible by improving the curriculum of the existing simple problem-solving method and developing various learning materials.

The Effects of a Robot Based Programming Learning on Learners' Creative Problem Solving Potential (로봇 활용 프로그래밍 학습이 창의적 문제해결성향에 미치는 영향)

  • Using the tangible programming tools, which combines physical objects (e.g. robot) and educational programming language, may help to encourage learners' creative thinking as well as to enhance problem solving ability. That is, learners can have opportunities to simulate problem solving processes through the physical objects, such as robots. Therefore, they can minimize an fixation about problem solving process. These experience is effective to induce creative thinking that is useful to find new solutions and change environment actively. Therefore, we developed a robot based programming teaching and learning curriculum and implemented it in college level introductory programming courses. The result shows that the robot based programming learning has a positive effect in all three factors of learners' creative problem solving potential, especially in a cognitive factor. The cognitive factor includes general problem solving abilities as well as factors that explain creativity, such as divergent thinking, problem recognition, problem representation. These result means that the developed robot based programming teaching and learning curriculum give positive effect to creative problem solving abilities.

Development of Special Robot Welding Nozzle for the Reduction of CO2 Gas Consumption (CO2 가스 절약형 로봇 용접용 노즐 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Present automobile robot welding use $CO_2$ inert gas as a shielding fluid. The inert gas is spreading out and consumable. This present welding mechanism interfered with the welding nozzle. After welding several places have welding defects. Therefore, to reduce the $CO_2$ inert gas and to avoid interference with the material and to increase production modified nozzle which composed of cap and tip are needed. Suggested modified nozzle assembly composed of two stages i.e. $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ stage. At the second stage it has 8 holes which is 3mm of diameter around the circumference. On the base of experimental results the inert $CO_2$ gas discharge reduced to 47% and welding defects decreased also. Modified two stage welding cap can be applied to the present robot welding machine and save the prime cost.
