Morphology of methane/propane clathrate hydrate crystal was investigated under different undercooling conditions. After the water pressurized with compound guest gas was fully saturated by agitation, medium within the vessel was rapidly undercooled and maintained at the constant temperature while the visual observations using microscope revealed detailed features of subsequent crystal nucleation, migration, growth and interference occurring within liquid pool. The growth of hydrate was always initiated with film formations at the bounding surface between bulk gas and liquid regions under all tested experimental conditions. Then a number of small crystals ascended, some of which settled beneath the hydrate film. When undercooling was relatively small, some of the settled crystals slowly grew into faceted columns. As the undercooling increased, the downward growth of crystals underneath the hydrate film became dendritic and occurred with greater rate and with finer arm spacing. The shapes of the floating crystals within liquid pool were diverse and included octahedron and triangular or hexagonal platelet. When the undercooling was small, the octahedral crystals were found dominant. As the undercooling increased, the shape of the floating crystals also became dendritic. The detailed growth characteristics of floating crystals are reported focused on the influences caused by undercooling and memory effect.
The aim of the present study was to investigate the mechanical properties of melt-injected poly lactic acid (PLA) composites with β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP). The PLA mixed with calcined PLA/β-TCP powder to be contents of 0, 10, 30, 50 wt%, respectively, was dissolved in chloroform solvent under stirring for 24 h. Then the liquid mixtures were dropped into ethanol to extract solvent. After drying, the well-dispersed PLA/β-TCP composites were granulated and melt-injected to prepare specimens for various mechanical testing. PLA/β-TCP induced the precipitation of an apatite bone-mineral phase on the surface after immersion in a human simulated body fluid (SBF) for 90 days, showing in bioactivity. Mean various mechanical properties PLA/β-TCP composite were increased up to 10-30 wt% with significantly in part and composite were decreased 50 wt% of showing in mechanical properties. In conclusion, Over 30 wt% addition of β-TCP to PLA may be not advisable to improve the mechanical properties of melt-injected polymeric composites. Results indicated that β-TCP can be used considered as potential reinforcing agent for increasing mechanical properties for PLA. Therefore, it was suggest that the additional effects of β-TCP and research on a wide range of substances.

Long term hydrogen production was investigated in an anaerobic sequencing batch reactor (ASBR) using mixed microflora. Glucose (about 8,250 mg/L) was used as a substrate for the ASBR operation under the condition of pH 5.5 and $37^{\circ}C$ with mixing at 150 rpm. The experiment was carried out over a period of 160 days. Hydrogen yield was 0.8mol $H_2/mol$ glucose with F/M ratio 2 at initial operation period. The hydrogen yield reached to maximum 2.6 mol $H_2/mol$ glucose at 80th day operation. However decreased hydrogen yield was observed after 80 days operation and eventually no hydrogen yield. Although well-known hydrogen producer Clostridium sp. was detected in the reactor by PCR-DGGE analysis, changed reactor operation was the major reason of the decreased hydrogen production, such as low F/M ratio of 0.5 and high propionic acid concentration 2,130 mg/L. Consequently the long period operation resulted in MLSS accumulation and then low F/M ration stimulating propionic acid formation which consumes hydrogen produced in the reactor.
Poly [(dimethylmethylyinyl) siloxane] phosphineoxide (PMViSPO) was prepared by adding phosphorus oxychloride $(POCl_3)$ to poly (dimethylmethylyinyl) siloxane (PMViS) at $0^{\circ}C$ under nitrogen atmosphere. Cadmium selenide (CdSe) was prepared by reacting cadmium oxide (CdO), tetradecyl-phosphonic acid (TDPA), trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) at $300^{\circ}C$, and adding solution of dissolved Se to tributylphosphine (TBP) and trioctylphosphine (TOP) CdSe-poly [(dimethylmethylvinyl) siloxane] phosphine-oxide (CdSe-SPO) adduct was synthesised by adding PMViSPO to CdSe solution. Liquid silicone rubber composite (LSRC-1) was prepared by compounding $\alpha,\omega-vinyl$ poly (dimethylsiloxane) (VPMS), $\alpha,\omega-hydrogen$) poly(dimethylsiloxane) (HPMS), and CdSe under Pt catalyst, and also LSRC-2 was prepared from VPMS, HPMS, and CdSe-SPO using Pt catalyst. It was confirmed that CdSe nanoparticles with photoluminescence characteristics was dispersed uniformly in LSR matrix. The diameter of CdSe was $30\sim50nm$. By measuring the number of CdSe nanoparticles, 202 particles of CdSe in LSRC-2 and 165 particles of CdSe in LSRC-1 were dispersed in the same area of LSR matrix. Thermal stability for LSRC-2 compounded with CdSe-SPO was better than LSRC-1.
With a view to resolving environmental problems of hazardous cement, this study seeks to identify the unconfined compressive strength and bending strength of the vegetation block designed herein by utilizing high-strength natural soil stabilizer instead of cement. Soil stabilizer is mainly made of mixture of short fiber extracted from natural fiber and lime, etc. Soil stabilizer reinforces the shearing strength of soil to improve block supportive power and durability while preventing flood and frost damages. For the unconfined compressive strength test, test pieces were prepared by mixing soil stabilizer and weathered soil in different ratios of 6 %, 12 % and 18 %. Experiments were carried out according to curing periods of 5th, 7th, 14th and 28th of the day. For bending strength test, blocks were made in the same mixture ratios as for the unconfined compressive test and tested for each stage. Also, to evaluate for the field applicability, proposed optimum water content considering the characteristics of the soil stabilizer. Permeability test result for the vegetation block, satisfied by the KS F 4419 quality standards.
This study was conducted to investigate the characteristics of the medium used on the composting step, comparing the excavator agitator with the self-propelled turner. The temperature of the outdoor composting medium tended to increase rapidly after flipping in the turner. The late composting medium temperature was maintained at the excavator treatment area (farm practice), and the late composting effect progressed. During the field composting stage, various microorganisms such as Bacillus spp., Actinomycetes, fluorescent Pseudomonas spp., and filamentous fungi were distributed in the medium, and the density of aerobic bacteria involved in the decomposition of the medium was increased. Under high-temperature composting conditions, blue fungi, and mesophilic actinomycetes were inhibited or killed. Thermophilic actinomycetes, which play an important role in decomposing organic matter, showed higher densities than those observed in farm practices in the self-propelled turner process. The length of rice straw was slightly shorter when the self-propelled turner was used, and the water content did not show any significant difference between treatments. The a and b values tended to increase as the inverter was turned over. The CN ratio of the composting broth was lowered from 23.1 to 16.2 for the 5th turnover in the context of farming practices, and from 23.3 to 16.9 in the context of the self-propelled turner. The yield of each treatment was increased by 20% in 1 period, 28% in 2 periods, and 26% in 3 periods; the overall yield was 23%.
In this study, the characterization of purified erythritol 4-phosphate dehydrogenase, key enzyme of erythritol biosynthesis, produced by Penicillium sp. KJ81 was investigated. Optimum production conditions of erythritol 4-phosphate dehydrogenase was 1 vvm areration, 200 rpm agitation, at $37^{\circ}C$ for 8 days in the medium containing 30% sucrose, 0.5% yeast extract, 0.5% $(NH_4)_2SO_4$, 0.1% $KH_2PO_4$, and 0.05%$MgCl_2$. Erythritol 4-phosphate dehydrogenase was purified through ultrafiltration and preparative gel electrophoresis from cell extract of Penicillium sp. KJ81. This enzyme was especially active on erythrose 4-phosphate with 1.07 mM of Km value. It gave a single band on native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and an isoelectric point of 4.6. The enzyme had an optimal activity at pH 7.0 and $30^{\circ}C$. It was stable between pH 4.0 and 9.0, and also below $30^{\circ}C$. The enzyme activity was completely inhibited by 1mM $Cu^{2+}$ and 1 mM $Zn^{2+}$, but was not significantly affected by other cations tested. This enzyme was inactivated by treatment of tyrosine specific reagent, iodine and tryptophan specific reagent, N-bromosuccinimide. The substrate of the enzyme, erythrose 4-phosphate showed protective effect on the inactivation of the enzyme by both reagents. These results suggest that tryptophan and tyrosine residues are probably located at or near active site of the enzyme.

In order to find a feasibility of applying an agricultural biomass to the anaerobic digestion system, the effects of pre-treatment of rice straw was investigated by different sizes, temperatures, ultrasonic frequencies, and with/without NaOH treatment on the change of soluble organic matter, which is generated most dominantly in Korea. It was observed that SCOD(soluble chemical oxygen demand) as the index for the decomposition of rice straw increased with the smaller particle size, higher reaction temperature and alkali treatment. With treatment of 5% NaOH, it was shown that the highest concentrations of SCOD were observed at 9,000 mg $L^{-1}$ and 6,000mg $L^{-1}$ at $35^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$, respectively. Agitating with ultrasonic irradiation could be enhanced SCOD of rice straw less than 3 cm with 40 kHz of ultrasound. Optimal RPM in this study was at 150 rpm regardless of reaction temperatures.
Edible films were prepared from proteins extracted from soybean curd residue by alkaline extraction and isoelectric precipitation. Effects of film forming solution pH and plasticizers on mechanical and barrier properties of edible films were studied. films were formed within pH $7{\sim}11$ with tensile strength (TS) of $2.9{\sim}3.3$ MPa. Films produced under pH 10 had the highest TS and Elongation (E) (3.3 MPa and 60.1%) but no significant difference was observed among water vapor permeabilities (WVP) of film. Glycerol, sorbitol and its mixture (1:1, w/w) were added as plasticizers. The concentration and mixing ratio of plasticizers also affected the TS, E and WVP of films. TS of films decreased from 15.0 MPa to 2.9 MPa as plasticizer concentration increased from 0.4 to 0.8 g plasticizer/g protein. At a plasticizer concentration, the highest TS was observed when sorbitol was used whereas the highest E was measured when mixture of glycerol and sorbitol was used as plasticizer WVP of films increased as the plasticizer concentration increased. Films plasticized with glycerol showed the highest WVP among the films with the same plasticizer concentrations. Edible films prepared from soybean curd residue protein showed very low oxygen permeabilities ($29.5{\sim}61.1aL{\cdot}m/m^2{\cdot}s{\cdot}Pa$) and oil resistance at all plasticizer concentration level tested.

Changes in the physicochemical characteristics and trans acid of cottonseed oil under the condition of selective hydrogenation, temperature$210^{\circ}C,\;H_2\;pressure\;0.3\;kg/cm^2$ Ni catalyst amount 0.12% (in oil), agitation speed 280 rpm, were investigated. The saturated fatty acid such as palmitic acid and stearic acid did not show any difference, while linoleic acid($50.03%{\rightarrow}9.38%$) were transformed to oleic acid ($20.65%{\rightarrow}60.35%$) during hydrogenation. In linoleic acid isomers, cc form were reduced significantly, but ct, tc, tt form showed little change, respectively. In oleic acid isomer, t form increased markedly, whereas there was no significant difference in c form. Meanwhile, melting point(MP) and solid fat content (SFC) were linearly increased, but iodine value(IV) linearly decreased as hydrogenation proceeded. From these results, linear regression equations were obtained as follows. MP & IV : Y= 1.59-2.36X(r=-0.96, p<0.05), SFC($at\;20^{\circ}C$) & MP : Y=2.81+2.01X(r=0.96, p<0.05), SFC($at\;20^{\circ}C$) & IV : Y=9.40-5.16X(r=-0.99, p<0.01), SFC($at\;20^{\circ}C$) & 18 : 1t : Y=6.25+8.48X(r=0.97, p<0.05)
