  • To better understand the heat wave phenomenon in the urban areas, it is desirable to explore the relationship between spatial allocation of land use and the heat wave. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the ranking correlation between heat wave days and developed types, specifically, core and islet developments. The methods employed are morphological spatial pattern, spatial autocorrelation, and spearman ranking correlation analyses by using the 30-year annual heat wave day records forthe five metropolitans. This research indicates that a fragmented development pattern including islets has mostly negative effects to the urban heat wave phenomenon. It means there is a relation between development pattern and heat wave.

  • The blood samples collected from 863 school boys living in Seoul, Kwangju, Pusan and Cheju were tested for studies on the distributions and frequencies of ABO, MNSs, Rh, Diego, Duffy, Kell, Kidd and P blood groups. The $I^B$ gene frequencies appeared to be a cline, and this is decreased gradually from north to south except the Cheju population, but on the other hand those of $I^A$ gene increased oppositely. In Koreans A type of ABO group increased during past fifty years while B type decreased. $Ig^M$ gene frequencies also decreased from north to south district in Korea except Cheju. And the frequency of $Ig^M$ in Koreans was 0.518 which is between those of the north Chinese and the Japanese. In general Rh negative was 0.26 percent, and CCDee phenotype was of the highest frequency among all phenotypes, showing 42.41 percent, CcDEe, about 34% and ccdee, 0.087%. The frequencies of most Rh phenotypes in Koreans were close to those of the Japanese rather than to those of the Chinese and the Thais. Di(a+) type was 6.633 percent, and Fy(a+) and Fy(b+) type were 99.267 percent and 13.832 percent respectively. K+ type was observed only one case in Seoul. The frequencies of Jk(a+) and P+ type were the most varied depending on the populations studied.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the factors related to social participation of Korean young-old adults residing in urban area with a focus on the effects of various motivations. In addition, this study examined gender differences in the relationships between social participation and motivations of social participation. Self-oriented motivation, network-oriented motivation, and society-oriented motivation were considered as motivations of social participation. The study subjects were 836 men and 877 women aged 50-69. The data were collected through face-to-face interviews using structured questionnaires in 2009. Hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to examine the relationships between motivations and the level of social participation using the SAS program. Main results were as follows: 1) The network-oriented motivation and society-oriented motivations were significantly related to the level of social participation; 2) Although men and women significantly differed in the patterns of social participation, gender differences were not found in the relationships between the social participation and motivations. These findings imply that network-oriented motivation and society-oriented motivation are important for facilitating the social participation of Korean young elderly. Further implications were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the number of visitors to the top of Seoseokdae in Mudeungsan National Park, in which visitors are concentrated, and their visiting patterns, thereby suggesting measures to manage the visitors. The number of annual visitors and the numbers of regional and seasonal visitors to Mudeungsan National Park, which affect the concentration of visits to Seoseokdae were analyzed using the data produced by an automatic digitizing device. A field study was conducted to examine the number of seasonal and periodic visitors to Seoseokdae and their visiting patterns. In 2015, the number of visitors was 2,563,651 and 83.9% of the visitors visited via the Jeungsimsa and Wonhyosa area that is near Gwangju City. This area is close to the Seoseokdae area and it is easy to hike between the areas. Therefore, there was an influx of most visitors to Seoseokdae into the Jeungsimsa and Wonhyosa area. In terms of seasonal visitors, the largest number of visitors came in the fall, followed by the summer, spring, and winter in order. However, the seasonal differences were not notable. There was no statistically significant correlation between the number of visitors and meteorological factors. This result may have been because Gwangju citizens frequently visit Mudeungsan regardless of period and weather. Visitors can get to Seoseokdae via the trails into Wonhyosa and Jangbuljae. A slightly larger number of visitors used the trail into Jangbuljae in the fall and winter, whereas a larger number of visitors used the trail into Wonhyosa in the summer. In general, there is a large influx of visitors into Jangbuljae, a strategic visiting point. However, a slightly larger number of visitors may have chosen the trail into Wonhyosa in the summer because they could hike under the shade of trees. In the summer, visitors stayed in Seoseokdae for a short time with a low level of crowdedness. On the other hand, in the fall and winter, visitors stayed in the area longer because they had lunch and rested. During the time, the number of momentary maximum visitors peaked, causing extreme crowdedness. Therefore, some visitors showed the visiting pattern of entering the grassland outside the designate zone. Because this behavior can damage the grassland on the top of Seoseokdae, which can lead to soil erosion, intensive visitor management may be necessary.

  • To get the various data on geological information, distributional ratios and characteristics of constituent rocks with geologic ages and rock types were obtained by ArcGIS 10.1 program, digital geologic and geomorphic maps of 1:250,000 scale in Jeonnam and Gwangju areas. In the Jeonnam area, geologic ages can be largely divided into 7, in which their distribution ratios show decreasing trends in the order of Cretaceous, Precambrian, Jurassic, Quaternary, Age-unknown, Carbonifeorus-Triassic and Triassic, and the former fours make the most prevailing ratios of 94.80%. Rock types in the area can be assorted into 57 ones, in which major 7 ones occupy the dominant ratio of 71.68%. Among them, Kav (acidic volcanics+rhyolite and rhyolitic tuff) show much more distribution ratios than the others. It shows more aspects distributed in north, west, middle, east and south parts, especially in Sinan-Mogpo-Yeongam of west and Haenam of south parts in the area, respectively. On the other hand, geological ages in Gwangju area can be largely divided into 5, in which their distribution ratios show decreasing trends in the order of Jurassic, Quaternary, Cretaceous, Precambrian and Age-unknown, and the former fours occupy almost the whole ratio of 98.95%. Rock types in the area are 12 ones, in which major four ones make up the dominant value of 91.30%. Among them, Jurassic granites of the most dominant value are mostly occupied in the southwest-northeast part of the area. Next dominative Quaternary alluvium is mostly developed along the Yeongsan river, the Hwangryong river and their channel junction. And Yongdu and Donggye plains are well developed around the Yeongsan riverline, and channel junction of the Yeongsan and Hwangryong rivers in the area, respectively.

  • The study find out developmental factors of the liver diseases in 29,531 subject of the healthy adults who diagnosed by using ultrasound at healthcare centers located at 6 cities around the nation. The results are as follows. Based on the result of the study, the liver diseases diagnosed by using ultrasound revealed to show 43.1% of prevalence, and the occurrence was significantly higher in male(23.3%) than in female (19.8%)(p<0.001). The disease revealed to show highest prevalence rate in regionally, Dae-jeon was found to record the highest prevalence by showing 49.6% (p<0.001). The order of liver disease prevalence was the highest in Dae-jeon(49.6%),which was followed by Seoul(48.2%), Busan(42.9%), Incheon(36.2%), Daegu(36.2%), Kangju(32.1%)(p<0.001). The order of hepatic disease prevalence was the highest in fatty liver (69.7%), which was followed by intrahepatic cysts (13.2%), intrahepatic calcification (9.6%), intrahepatic hemangioma (4.5%), intrahepatic tumor (1.4%), diffuse liver disease (1.0%),and liver cirrhosis (0.5%) (p<0.001). The liver disease revealed to show highest prevalence rate in 40s and regionally, disease was found to record the highest prevalence from 30s to 50s (p<0.001). The distribution of the liver diseases by sex revealed to show the higher occurrence of the fatty liver and the diffuse liver diseases in male, but the intrahepatic cysts, intrahepatic calcification and intrahepatic tumors were highly distributed in female. In the regional evaluation, the fatty liver was most often found in Busan, and intrahepatic cysts, intrahepatic hemangioma, intrahepatic calcification and intrahepatic tumors were highly found in Dae-jeon and Seoul revealed to show higher occurrence of diffuse liver disease than other regions (p<0.001). The multiple regression analysis for the related factors which affect the prevalence of the liver diseases resulted to show the higher prevalence by age. sex,

  • The morphological variation and density of the Euglena viridis cells and environmental factors of urban waterways of Daejoncheon , Jeonjucheon, Kwangjucheon, Kumhogang, Mihocheon, and Musimcheon, Korea were studied from 25December, 1995 to 5 January, 1997 in order toelucidate possible relationships among the bio-logical and abiological factors. All E. viridis cells were same in having single star-cluster of chlo-roplast lobes and included two morphotypes based on other detailed morphology. The morphotype I cells agreed well with the typical form off. viridrs and commonly occurred in most of waters and bloomed with $5386\;cells\;{\cdot}\;mL^{-1}$ in Kwangjucheon. The density of the morphotype Ipositively correlated with ammonium (r = 0.80)and nitrite (r = 0.68), while negatively with nit-rate concentration. The morphotype II cells were characterized by having randomly scattered cytoplasmic granules beneath pellicle and unevenmargined lobes of chloroplasts. The density of the morphotype II positively correlated with nitrate (r = 0.98), while negatively correlated with ammonium and nitrite. However, the density of each morphotype was not significantly related with inorganic phosphate, temperature and pH of surface water. These results indicate that E. viridis includes two morphotypes in urban waterways in Korea, that coexist in the same period and station as a response of allocation of nitrogenous nutrients.

  • The purpose of this paper is to find the direction by analyzing the synchronization phenomenon and the change rate of apartment charter rate in Korea, Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju and Daejeon. For this purpose, this study used a total of 239 monthly data from January 2000 to November 2019 in Kookmin Bank housing statistics. In the correlation analysis, Korea showed the highest relationship in order of Seoul, Busan, Incheon and Daegu. Seoul showed a low figure of 0.3 without any distinctive features from other cities. On the other hand, Busan, Daejeon and Daegu showed high correlations. As a result of the regression analysis, Korea and 5 major cities were all moving in the same direction with positive(+) values. And Busan and Seoul responded significantly to Korea. In the shock response, Korea is most shocked by the change in Seoul. Daegu is relatively shocked by Busan and Daejeon. Seoul's charter rate has declined most strongly in the last three years. Therefore, it is time to be careful not to incur losses due to gap investment. If we look at the relationship between the charter rate and the sale price in future studies, we can better understand the Korean apartment market.
