  • In this study, photo-cuarable urethane methacrylate oligomers were synthesized from polyether type polyol (PP series, GP series), isocyanate (2,4-toluene diisocyanate) and hydroxy acrylate (hydroxypropyl methacrylate). We measured basic property including color, viscosity and refractive index of resulting urethane methacrylate. Also we measured tensile strength, elongation, and Young's modulus after photo curing. Photo curing speed was investigated using photo-DSC (TA instrument). In the case of similar polyol structure, as the molecular weight of polyol is increased, tensile strength, Young's modulus, curing rate were decreased, but elongation was increased. As the number of functionality of urethane methacrylate oligomer is increased, tensile strength, Young's modulus, curing rate were increased, but elongation was decreased.

  • The kinetics of photopolymerization of urethane-acrylate oligomer which has many applications in photopolymerizable adhesives was analysed to investigate the influence of polymerization temperature and functionality of oligomer using the autocatalytic model. It was revealed that the maximum polymerization rate decreased as the polymerization temperature increased. The reaction rate constant, k, showed little change with the increase in polymerization temperature, while exponents m and n exhibited an increase. These results could be related to the diffusion and mobility restriction of reactive species during the cross-linking reaction. The decrease in photopolymerization rate with increase of temperature was mainly controlled by the reaction order n.

  • The propenyl ether-type monomers which are applicable for cationic photo-polymerization were synthesized by the condensation reaction of mono and di-functional alcohol with allyl bromide. To examine photo-curable reactivity, these monomers were combined with cationic photoinitiator to prepare coating composition. As a result, the initial rate of polymerization of POMB in mono propenyl ether type was 10.2, which was relatively lower than BPOB in di-propenyl ethers type. However, POMB containing 1.5mol% photoinitiator almost quantitatively reacted within 90 seconds. In addition, Sulfonium salt type photo-initiators containing long-alkyl group showed good solubility with monomers and apperaed to have comparatively higher rate of polymerization and conversion ratio when applying DPSA and DPST which have high acidity on all monomers.

  • Recently, ink-jet printing technology has been applied for various industries such as semiconductor, display, ceramic tile decoration. Ink-jet printing has advantages of high resolution patterning, fast printing speed, high ink efficiency and many attempts have been made to apply functional materials with excellent physical and chemical properties for the ink-jet printing process. Due to these advantages, research scope of ink-jet printing is expanding from conventional two-dimensional printing to three-dimensional printing. In order to expand the application of ink-jet printing, it is necessary to optimize the rheological properties of the ink and the interaction with the substrate. In this study, photo curable ceramic complex ink containing nano silica particles were synthesized and its printability was characterized. Contact angle of the photo curable silica ink were modified by control of the ink composition and the surface property of the substrate. Effects of contact angle on printing resolution and three-dimensional printability were investigated in detail.

  • Furan-containing epoxide monomers (8, 9) were designed and synthesized as carbon-neutral, environment-friendly adhesion material. Bicyclic skeleton were constructed using the Diels-Alder reaction of furan and methyl acrylate, both readily accessible starting material from a biomass via bio-refinery process. After reduction of ester functionality, resulting hydroxyl moieties were coupled to epichlorohydrin to provide the epoxy-functionalized furanic monomers (8, 9). The structure of new furanic monomers was confirmed by $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopy. As UV-curable monomers, basic properties such as UV curing time and the extent of UV curing were evaluated by photo DSC. Photo-curing shrinkages were measured by linear variable differential transformer transducer (LVDT) and the effect of molecular structure on shrinkage was considered. In addition, new synthetic compounds showed the shear strength over 3 MPa when they were photo-cured between polycarbonate plates, which indicates these compounds are feasible to use as photo-curable adhesive materials.

  • Wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) networks are emerging to be the right choice for the future transport networks. In WDM networks, the optical layer provides circuit-switched lightpath services to the client layer such as IP, SONET and ATM. The set of lightpaths in the optical layer defines the virtual topology. Since the optical switches are reconfigurable, the virtual topology can be reconfigured in accordance with the changing traffic demand pattern at theclient layer in order to optimize the network performance. We present a new approach to the virtual topology reconfiguration and loadbalancing problem for wavelength-routed, optical wide-area networks under dynamic traffic demand. By utilizing the measured Internet backbone traffic characteristics, our approach follows the changes in traffic without assuming that the future traffic pattern is known. For the simulation traffic modeling, we collected the data from real backbone traffic. Experiments show that the standard deviation compared to previous technique is reduced.

  • The curing mechanism and characteristics of UV curable acrylate resins were studied using Photo-DSC, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy. Effects of chemical structures of acrylate, numbers of functional group, and UV intensity on curing kinetics were investigated with Photo-DSC. FTIR and Raman spectroscopy has been used to understand curing mechanisms and reaction conversion. In order to investigate the effect of oxygen on the photo-curing reaction, the curing process was compared between the acrylate and thiol-ene resins. The reaction conversion was found to be less than 80% for acrylate resins. The photo-curing reaction of the acrylate resin could not proceed to the end because of oxygen which acts as a reaction inhibitor while the thiol-ene resin was hardly affected from oxygen during the curing process.

  • New polyelectrolytes derived from ionene-containing photocurable reactive oligomer (PIDM) were prepared for water-resistant humidity-sensitive membranes. The mixture of PIDM, hexamethylene dimethacrylate (HDM), pentaerythritol triacrylate dimer (SP1013), and photoinitiator was simultaneously coated on the sensor electrode with photoinitiated radical polymerization. The pretreatment of the substrates with vinyl-type silane-coupling reagent was performed for improving the water durability and stability of the sensors at high temperature and humidity. When the resistance dependences on the relative humidity of the crosslinked PIDMs were measured, it was found that the resistance varied three orders of magnitude between 20 and 90%RH, which was required for the humidity sensor operating at ambient humidity. Their hysteresis, temperature dependence, response time, water durability, and high temperature/humidity stabilities were measured and evaluated as a humidity-sensing membrane.

  • 3D printers have been growing mainly in industrial use, but the recent growth of the personal 3D printer market advanced through economic effects and cost reduction due to technological development. However, current 3D personal printers are very low in customer satisfaction on the limitations of molding speed, size, and precision. In this paper, we propose SLA 3D printer using LSU to overcome the technical limitation of personal 3D printer. In order to verify the operation of the scanning mechanism which is responsible for core functions, the movement of molding board using stepping motor and laser output test was conducted. These tests ensure that the laser was operating and control well was confirmed that a certain point is output to the X-axis by means of a laser module and a polygon mirror. 3D printers which are proposed to improve the accuracy and manufacturing speed is expected to replace the traditional low-budget 3D printer.

  • Photo-curable material can be crosslinked among molecules by light source such as UV and visible light materials. Material properties are controlled by crosslink reaction. Shrinkage is occured during the curing reaction of material structure. Phenomenon of shrinkage stress occurs inside the product and reduce the stability of the product causes problems. Heat shrink the evaluation of the phenomenon has been formalized. But the evaluation of photo shrink is not enough. In this experiment, real-time contract with shrinkage tester phenomena and analysis degree of shrinkage of the material differences. According to the research, experimental results and theoretical analysis of the results were big differences. Shrinkage, especially for a number of different functional groups that were very different theory. These differences are occurred by the molecular structure different and not enough reaction.
