Diffraction Efficiency Improvement of PVA/AA/SeO2 Photopolymer with Various Film Thickness and Eosin Y Contents (PVA/AA/SeO2 광고분자 필름의 두께 및 Eosin Y 함량 변화에 따른 회절효율 향상에 관한 연구)

  • Photopolymer is evaluated as better material than the others used for hologram storage, due to many advantages, such as high diffraction efficiency, easy processing, and self-developing. In this study, chalcogenide inorganic compound ($SeO_2$) which has optical activity, was added to polyvinyl alcohol/acrylamide photopolymer films. In order to optimize diffraction efficiency of these photopolymer films, we prepared the photopolymer films with various film thicknesses and Eosin Y content. Diffraction efficiency of the photopolymer films were measured using a 532 nm laser at $40^{\circ}$ incident angle. As a result, the phtopolymer film with Eosin Y content of 0.0045 g and thickness of $297{\mu}m$ showed the highest diffraction efficiency (78.70%).

A New Small Size Digital Optical Ozone Monitor Using CCD Array as a UV Detector (UV 감지기로서 CCD어레이를 사용한 소형 디지털 광 오존모니터)

  • Ozone monitor based on UV techniques has been widely used due to their signal stability. The high concentration ozone monitor for real time ozone monitoring from ozone generator was composed of a low pressure mercury lamp as UV source and a photo multiplier tube as UV detector. The structure could be very useful for low price high concentration ozone monitor and showed good linearity to ozone in the concentration range between 0.05 and 2wt%. For accurate ambient ozone monitoring, the system composed of a high power pulsed xenon lamp as UV source, an optical spectrometer with a high sensitivity linear CCD array as UV detector. The optical signal form the CCD array was converted to digital signal, and the digital signal was displayed on screen using PC interface. The developed system showed good linearity and sensitivity in relatively low measuring range between 10ppm and 10,000ppm, and showed some feasibility of hish resolution ozone monitor using CCD array as a photodetecor.

Study on Optical Feedback in Optical Fiber Laser (광섬유 레이저에서의 광궤환에 대한 연구)

  • The method of enhancing visibility in optical fiber sensor was investigated by improving coherence length of light source. The optical feedback technique is used to enhance coherence length in fiber laser which generates laser in near infrared wavelength region and utilizes low loss characteristics of optical communication grade fiber. In this paper, the effect to coherence length by short and long optical feedback paths are investigated by using Mach-Zehnder interferometer technique. The effect to coherence length by changing optical feedback power and optical modulation are investigated. The spectral drift was calculated by measuring the degree of phase perturbation in unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer having loom path difference. The short optical feedback path was effective to reduce spectral drift to 450kHz/sec and the long optical feedback path in combination with short optical feedback path was found to further reduce spectral drift to 50kHz/sec.

A Study on Optical Coherence Tomography System by Using the Optical Fiber (광섬유를 이용한 광영상단층촬영기 제작에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we have studied the OCT(Optical Coherence Tomography) system which has been advantages of high resolution, 2-D cross-sectional images, low cost and small size configuration. The characteristics of light source determine the resolution and coherence length. The light source has a commercial SLD with a central wavelength of 1,285 ill11, 35.3 nm(FWHM). The optical delay line is necessary to make equal with the optical path length to scattered light or reflected light from a sample. In order to make equal the optical path length, the stage that is attached to a reference mirror is controled by a step motor. And the interferometer is configured with the Michelson interferometer by using a single mode fiber, and the scanner can be focused on the sample by using a reference ann Also, the 2-dimension cross-sectional images were measured with scanning the transverse direction of the sample by using a step motor. After detecting the internal signal of lateral direction, a scanner is moved to obtain the cross-sectional image of 2-dimension by using step motor. A photodiode, which has high detection sensitivity and excellent noise characteristics has been used. The detected small signal has a noise and interference. After filtering and amplifying the signal, the output signal is demodulated the waveform And then, a cross-sectional image is seen through converting this signal into a digitalized signal by using an AID converter. The resolution of the sample is about 30${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, which corresponds to the theoretical resolution. Also, the cross-sectional images of onion cells were measured in real time scheme.

MEMS Fabrication of Microchannel with Poly-Si Layer for Application to Microchip Electrophoresis (마이크로 칩 전기영동에 응용하기 위한 다결정 실리콘 층이 형성된 마이크로 채널의 MEMS 가공 제작)

  • We developed two kinds of the microchip for application to electrophoresis based on both glass and quartz employing the MEMS fabrications. The poly-Si layer deposited onto the bonding interface apart from channel regions can play a role as the optical slit cutting off the stray light in order to concentrate the UV ray, from which it is possible to improve the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio of the detection on a chip. In the glass chip, the deposited poly-Si layer had an important function of the etch mask and provided the bonding surface properly enabling the anodic bonding. The glass wafer including more impurities than quartz one results in the higher surface roughness of the channel wall, which affects subsequently on the microflow behavior of the sample solutions. In order to solve this problem, we prepared here the mixed etchant consisting HF and $NH_4F$ solutions, by which the surface roughness was reduced. Both the shape and the dimension of each channel were observed, and the electroosmotic flow velocities were measured as 0.5 mm/s for quartz and 0.36 mm/s for glass channel by implementing the microchip electrophoresis. Applying the optical slit with poly-Si layer provides that the S/N ratio of the peak is increased as ca. 2 times for quartz chip and ca. 3 times for glass chip. The maximum UV absorbance is also enhanced with ca. 1.6 and 1.7 times, respectively.

A Sensitive Detection of Actinide Species in Solutions Using a Capillary Cell (모세관 셀을 이용한 수용액 내 악티나이드 화학종의 고감도 검출)

  • Absorption spectra for a quantitative analysis of actinide elements such as U(VI) and Pu(V) were measured by using a liquid waveguide capillary cell (LWCC) which has an optical path length of 1.0 meter. In order to investigate radioactive elements, a LWCC is installed in a glove box and is coupled to a spectrophotometer with optical fibers. Limits of detection (LOD) for the system were determined as 0.74 and 0.35 M with molar absorption coefficients of 8.14${\pm}$0.07 (414 nm) and 17.00${\pm}$0.16 (569 nm) $M^{-1}cm^{-1}$ for U(VI) and Pu(V) ions, respectively. The measured LOD values are about 30 times more sensitive when compared to those achievable by using a conventional quartz cell with an optical path length of 1.0 cm. As an application with an enhanced sensitivity, a quantitative analysis for micromolar concentrations of Pu(V) has been performed to decrease the uncertainty in the formation constant of the Pu(VI)-OH complex.

The development of intrusion sensor using the variations of speckle patterns (스페클 패턴을 이용한 침입자 센서의 개발)

  • The speckle pattern is formed by laser light from a multimode optical fiber. The speckle fluctuation is the result of interference among propagation modes when the optical fiber is subjected to a mechanical distortion at any point along its length. The experiments were carried on for the study of the feasibility of producing an intrusion detection system using the speckle fluctuation. The speckle fluctuation signals were monitored at real time by an oscilloscope which was connected with an amplifier and a filter. The experiment results showed that the intrusion sensor had enough sensitivity to detect an intruder.

  • A cationic dye, methylene blue $(MTB^+)$ was examined as a counter ion in the separation of organic and inorganic anions by ion-pair chromatography. Nonabsorbing anions could be indirectly detected by photometric detector with the assistance of MTB^+ in visible range (665nm). A mixture of anions was able to be separated with good base line resolution and high sensitivity. The capacity factors were also determined in various experimental conditions to study retention mechanism. The retention followed the ion-interaction model where the $MTB^+$ occupies a primary layer at the stationary phase while the analyte anion and other anions in the system compete for forming the secondary layer.

  • 상온에서 밴드갭이 2.42 eV의 에너지를 가지며 직접 에너지 밴드갭을 갖는 고감도의 광전도체로 태양전지의 광투과 물질로 각광을 받고 있으며 광전도 cell로 연구되고 있는 CdS(Cadmium sulfide)를 용액 성장법(CBD)으로 제조하여 박막의 결정립의 향상과 박막내의 결함 등을 제거하기 위해 RTP(Rapid Thermal Process)를 이용하여 열처리 분위기 $N_2$, 처리시간 10분을 기준으로 열처리온도 ($300\;^{\circ}C$, $400\;^{\circ}C$, $500\;^{\circ}C$)를 변화시키며 박막의 전기적, 광학적 특성을 조사하였다. 캐리어 밀도가 급격히 낮아지고 이동도가 증가한 $500\;^{\circ}C$에서 $1.29\times10^3\;{\Omega} m$ 비저항을 나타냈다. 가시광선 영역에서 76.28%의 투과율을 보이는 특성을 나타내었다.

Electrical and Optical Properties of InSe Single Crystals (InSe 단결정의 전기적 광학적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Single crystals of InSe were obtained by the Bridgman method. The crystal structure was hombohedral(R3m) with lattice paramete. a=4.02A, c=24.96A. At 300$^{\circ}$K the electrical conductivity was about ~10-2($\Omega$.cm)-1, reslpectively. The electrical conductivity type was n- type. The donor level located at 0.072eV below the conduction band. The Photosensitivity was observed in range from 840nm to 1120nm. The energy gap of InSe single crystal measured from the photoconductivity and the optical transmittance spectrum was 1.20eV, 1.21eV, respectively.
