Cross Calibration of Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry Equipment for Diagnosis of Osteoporosis: between Domestic Manufacturers and Global Manufacturers (골밀도 장치의 교차분석 ; 국내 제조사와 해외 제조사 비교)

  • Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry is mainly used as an X-ray test method. For equipment manufactured GE and Hologic, cross-calibration analyses (CCA) of machines from the same manufacturer and between units from different manufacturers have been conducted, but the CCA of equipment manufactured in Korea are inadequate. Through CCA, we present a formula of the intersections between the Korean medical equipment company (KEC) with GE and Hologic manufactured DXA, and among the KEC DXA. The CCA was conducted for the European Spine Phantom on DXA from four KEC and three global medical equipment company (GEC) manufacturers. We compared bone mineral density (BMD) values and calculated the CCA equation by linear regression analysis. The standard-deviations (SD) of the BMD values were highest for the Dexxum T for the low, medium, and high spine, which were 0.030, 0.029, and 0.037, respectively. The smallest SD in the low and medium vertebrae were 0.005 and 0.004 for the Horizon Ci, respectively, and 0.005 for the Osteo Pro Max in the high vertebrae. Based on the intersection equations of the KEC DXA established in this study, CCA of various KEC DXA should be established for more accurate follow-up of BMD tests in clinical environments.

Facilitation of Glucose Uptake by Lupeol through the Activation of the PI3K/AKT and AMPK Dependent Pathways in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes (3T3-L1 지방세포에서 PI3K/AKT 및 AMPK 경로의 활성화를 통한 루페올의 포도당 흡수촉진 효과)

  • Lupeol is a type of pentacyclic triterpene and has been reported to have pharmacological activities against various diseases; however, the effect of lupeol on glucose absorption has not been elucidated yet. This study aimed to investigate the effect of lupeol on glucose uptake in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Lupeol significantly facilitated glucose uptake by translocating glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) to the plasma membrane of the 3T3-L1 adipocytes, which was related to activation of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) and 5 'adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathways. In the PI3K/AKT pathway, lupeol stimulates the phosphorylation of insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS-1), which activates PI3K. Its activation by lupeol promotes the phosphorylation of AKT, but not the atypical protein kinase C isoforms ζ and λ. Lupeol also promoted the phosphorylation of AMPK. The activation of AMPK increased the expressions of the plasma membrane GLUT4 and the intracellular glucose uptake. The increase in the glucose uptake by lupeol was suppressed by wortmannin (PI3K inhibitor) and compound C (AMPK inhibitor) in the 3T3-L1 adipocytes. The results indicate that lupeol can facilitate glucose uptake by increasing insulin sensitivity through the stimulation of the expression of plasma membrane glucose transporter type 4 via the PI3K/AKT and AMPK pathways in the 3T3-L1 adipocytes.

A Study on Carbon Nano Materials as Conductive Oilers for Microwave Absorbers (전자파 흡수체를 위한 전도성 소재로서의 탄소나노소재의 특성에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, we have studied the complex permittivities and their influence on the design of microwave absorbers of E-glass fabric/epoxy composite laminates containing three different types of carbon-based nano conductive fillers such as carbon black (CB), carbon nano fiber (CNF) and multi-wall nano tube (MWNT). The measurements were performed fur permittivities at the frequency band of 0.5 GHz$\sim$18.0 GHz using a vector network analyzer with a 7 mm coaxial air line. The experimental results show that the complex permittivities of the composites depend strongly on the natures and concentrations of the conductive fillers. The real and imaginary parts of the complex permittivities of the composites were proportional to the filler concentrations. But, depending on the types of fillers and frequency band, the increasing rates of the real and imaginary parts with respect to the filler concentrations were all different. These different rates can have an effect on the thickness in designing the single layer microwave absorbers. The effect of the different rates at 10 GHz was examined by using Cole-Cole plot; the plot is composed of a single layer absorber solution line and measured permittivities from these three types of composites. Single layer absorbers of 3 different thicknesses using carbon nano materials were fabricated and the -10 dB band of absorbing performances were all about 3 GHz.

Uptake of Boscalid and Chlorfenapyr Residues in Soil into Korean Cabbage (토양에 잔류된 Boscalid 및 Chlorfenapyr의 엇갈이 배추로의 흡수 이행)

  • The uptake and transportation patterns of the residual boscalid and chlorfenapyr were investigated from the soils to Korean cabbages. The recovery rates of the pesticides spiked in the soils and Korean cabbages were 87.5 to 105.2%. Korean cabbages were cultivated in soils treated with two different concentrations of the pesticides as low (3.0 mg/kg) and high (6.0 mg/kg) concentrations in greenhouse for 28 days. The initial level of boscalid was determined as 2.77 and 5.66 mg/kg for the low and high concentration of boscalid-treated soils, respectively. After 28 days of treatment, the residual boscalid in soils decreased to 0.53 and 1.60 mg/kg for the low and high concentration of boscalid-treated soils, respectively, and thus it was reduced to 71.7 to 81.9%. The initial level of chlorfenapyr was determined as 2.38 and 6.43 mg/kg for the low and high concentration of chlorfenapyr-treated soils, respectively. After 28 days of treatment, the residual chlorfenapyr in soils decreased to 1.36 and 2.91 mg/kg for the low and high concentration-treated soils, respectively, and thus it was reduced to 42.9 to 54.8%. The residual pesticide analysis was done with 2 day intervals from 21 days-cultivated Korean cabbages after seeding. Uptake rates of boscalid from the soil to Korean cabbages were 2.4 and 2.2% for the low- and high-concentration of boscalid-treated soil, respectively. However, the uptake rate of chlorfenapyr by the cabbages was 1.5 and 1.3% for the low and high concentration-treated soil, respectively. The uptake rate of chlorfenapyr by the cabbages was lower than that of boscalid. These results showed that the residual pesticides in soil could be absorbed by Korean cabbages depending on their physicochemical properties.

The water absorption of wood by water-soaking time (수침시간(水浸時間)에 의(依)한 목재(木材)의 흡수성(吸收性))

  • The Capacity of wood to absorb water is very important as the basis data for wood industry, particularly in preservatives impregnation, manufacturing of improved wood, selection of packing boards, etc. In this study differences in Water absorbing Capacity of wood by structual section, water soaking time were investigated. (1) The species used in this investigation were Larix olgensis Henry Var. Koreana Nakai and Juglans mandshurica Max., and dimension of these testing wood block was $30{\times}30{\times}100cm$; and these were soaked in fresh water of $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ for 8.5day and 0.5 day, before measurement. (2) The result showed that the water absorption by cross sections was greater than by either radial or tangential section and there were no differences between radial and tangential section. (3) The water absorption of Juglans mandshurica Max. which has the relatively low specific gravity was greater than Larix olgensis Henry Var. Koreana Nakai which has generally high specific gravity. (4) The result showed an increase in the absorbed water with increase in the length of soaking time. However the water absorption rate during the early period of soaking was very high and thereafter the rate decreased with passage of time. More than a half of the total water absorption was achieved during the first 2 days approximately. (5) The relationships between the length of the soaking-time and water absorption were found to be as follows : Larix olgensis Henry Var. Koreana Nakai Cross section : $y=111.1{\times}^{0.6516}$ radial section : $y=32.2{\times}^{0.5146}$ tangential section : $y=36.5{\times}^{0.5112}$ Juglans mandshurica Max. Cross section : $y=216.1{\times}^{0.5914}$ radial section : $y=27.9{\times}^{0.5832}$ tangential section : $y=50.9{\times}^{0.4769}$ Where : y is amount of water absorption ($mg/cm^2$) x is water-soaking time (days).

  • To find compromise experimental conditions that will allow a group of elements to be run on flame atomic absorption spectrometer without changing the burner height or gas flow rates, measurements were carried out. The optimum absorbance for simultaneous analysis of ten elements was observed at high flow rate of air-$C_2H_2$ as fuel and at 2mm of burner height. At the condition, 73% of mean relative absorbance were achieved.

  • 악관절 잡음과 동통,과두 흡수를 동반한 퇴행성 측두하악장애는 교합 불안정과 개구장애 를 동반하기도 한다. 진단을 위해 CT나 MRI를 이용해 과두 형태 및 디스크 위치를 파악하 는 것이 유용한 접근법이다. 퇴행성 측두하악관절 환자는 CT나 MRI를 이용하여 진단하고, 과두-원판 재위치와 근 기능 개선을 위해 장기간 교합 안정장치 사용이 필요하므로 교정치료 기간에 변형된 교합 안정장치의 병용이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서 교합 안정장치를 병용하여 교합 재구성 증례를 CT나 MRI로 고찰해 보고자 한다.

목성, 토성, 타이탄의 근적외선 고분산 분광선 연구

  • 2001년부터 목성, 토성, 타이탄을 관측하여 얻은 근적외선 고분산 분광선에 대한 자료들을 요약하고, 이들 데이터에서 도출된 연구 결과들을 정리하였다. 특히 3 마이크론 근처에서 혜성이나 성간물질 등에서 종종 나타나는 C-H stretching band와 비슷한 분광구조를 확인하였다. 이 분광구조는 행성계 물체의 연무나 구름 입자 속에 포함하고 있는 유기분자 때문이라고 유추된다. 이 파장 영역은 강한 대기 흡수 때문에 많은 관측자들이 기피하던 영역이었는데, 근래에 들어 고분산 분광기의 발달로 대기흡수선 사이를 통해 이들 천체들의 자세한 분광구조를 알 수 있게 되었다. 이번 발표에서 목성, 토성, 타이탄 분광 구조의 다른 점과 같은 점을 보여주고, 이 파장 영역에서만 도출할 수 있는 유용한 과학적 결과를 강조하고자 한다.

광학 시뮬레이션을 이용한 향상된 효율의 "Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin layer(HIT)" 태양전지 구조 설계

  • 태양전지의 시장 경쟁력을 위해선 발전단가가 낮아야 하기 때문에, 현재까지도 더 높은 효율의 태양전지가 요구되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 더 높은 효율의 태양전지를 설계하기 위하여 광학적인 시뮬레이션을 이용하여 HIT 태양전지 구조에서 흡수가 큰 태양전지의 구조를 예측하였고, 이러한 구조에 대해서 EDISON 나노물리에서 지원하는 "태양전지 해석용 SW"를 사용하여 효율을 계산하였다. 소프트웨어를 통한 계산 결과 태양전지에 의한 흡수가 클수록 이는 직접적으로 전류밀도의 향상으로 나타났고, 따라서 효율이 증가하였다. 이러한 광학적인 예측을 통하여 $105.8W/m^2$의 효율을 가지는 태양전지를 디자인 함으로써, 기존 HIT 태양전지의 효율인 $56.62W/m^2$ 보다 약 1.868배 향상된 태양전지를 구현하였다.

Nutrition and Drug Interaction (영양과 약물의 상호작용)

  • Nutrients and drugs are similar to biological fate, such as absorption, metabolism and excretion. Such procedure may interact with nutrients and drugs. Drugs can influence nutrient absorption, metabolism or excretion ; the effects may impair the nutritional status of a patient. Specific nutrient, nutritional status, or dietary factors alter drug utilization. Therefore, medicated patients need to be aware of good nutrition practices and to understand the importance of dietary modifications associated with certain diseases. A nutritious and well balanced diet not only makes an important contribution to the health of those patients, but also reduces the risk of nutrition disorders or altered the pharmacological action of drugs.
