In order to investigate the composition and characteristics of instructional objectives in a teaching-learning material for gifted elementary students in science, 217 instructional objectives across 13 themes in 4 areas of 'energy','materials', 'life' and 'earth' were analyzed by Bloom's revised taxonomy of educational objectives. Four types of factual, conceptual, procedural and meta-cognitive knowledge in knowledge dimension were all comprised in the objectives. Conceptual knowledge was primary constituent of the objectives and the proportion of factual knowledge was the least. On the other hand, all 6 categories of 'remember', 'understand', 'apply', 'analyze', 'evaluate' and 'create' in cognitive process dimension were also comprised in the objectives. The category of 'understand' was primary constituent and that of 'remember' was the least one. While conceptual knowledge in knowledge dimension was primary constituent of the objectives in 'energy', 'materials' and 'earth' areas, procedural knowledge was the most objectives in 'life' area. The least type of knowledge was factual knowledge in all 4 areas. In cognitive process dimension, the category of 'understand' was primary constituent and that of 'remember' was the least one in all 4 areas. In conclusion, it was showed that the instructional objectives in the teaching-learning material reflected the characteristics of educational objectives for gifted students in science.
The purpose of this study was to design of instructional models for underserved science gifted students, especially developing the thinking skills. We made orientation and methodology to design of instructional models. According to these orientation and methodology, we designed instructional models that improving cognitive thinking and affective attitude of underserved science gifted students. Particularly, we designed instructional models that is composed of objective, activity, evaluation. According to the Bloom's cognitive educational objective taxonomy(cognitive thinking process) and Krathwohl's affective educational objective taxonomy(affective attitude), we designed integrated(cognitive and affective) and progressive 4 stages or steps instructional models.

The consistency and balance of objectives by objective domains in units, sub-units and instructional units were investigated. The 6th elementary biology curricular teaching guidebooks were analysed. Domains of objectives are cognitive, inquiry process, instrumental skill, creative, affective and STS. Cognitive objectives were most dominant in all units, sub-units and instructional units. But no objective for creative domain were suggested. In unit and sub-unit, proportions of objectives were cognitive, inquiry process, affective, instrumental skill and STS domains in order. Objectives for cognitive and inquiry process domains were more than others in instructional units, Except cognitive and inquiry process domains, objectives for the others were not consistent in all units, sub-units and instructional units. Especially, the percentages of objectives for affective domain decreased in units, sub-units and instructional units orderly. These resulted from teaching objective domains categorized formally, Thus, it is necessary to develope curriculum and textbook to be consistent and balanced with objective domains and reflect upon the characteristics of them.
The purpose of this study is to investigate science teachers' orientation toward scientific inquiry-based teaching. In this study, five middle school science teachers formed and participated in a teacher learning community for scientific inquiry-based instruction during one year. Data collection consisted of pre and post questionnaire and interviews, audio-recordings of teachers' collaborative lesson planning and reflection on teaching practice, and field notes of participant teachers' teaching practice and follow-up interviews. Data analysis indicated that there were four orientations toward scientific inquiry-based teaching. They were knowledge and beliefs about 'goals of scientific inquiry-based teaching', 'scientific inquiry-based teaching and learning', 'argumentation-based teaching and learning', and 'nature of science and science inquiry'. Teachers' collaboration in a teacher learning community would be effective in facilitating teachers' orientation to scientific inquiry-based teaching.
The purpose of this study was to investigate beginning science teachers' perceptions of inquiry-based science instruction using open-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interview. Participants of this study voluntarily set up a goal of inquiry-based science instruction, planned inquiry-based science lessons, and shared and reflected their teaching experiences in their professional learning community for more than a year. Participant teachers recognized students' construction of core scientific concepts through performing scientific inquiry as a goal of science inquiry instruction. Participant teachers indicated that goals of science education such as 'learning scientific core concepts', 'improving students' interest of science', 'improving scientific thinking', and 'understanding the nature of science' can be achieved through students' active engagement in scientific inquiry. Participant teachers recognized not only the importance of teachers' role, but also what roles science teachers should play in order to enable students to perform scientific inquiry. Participant teachers emphasized teachers' roles such as 'identifying core concepts', 'reorganizing science curriculum', 'considering student ability', 'asking questions and providing feedbacks to students', 'explaining scientific concepts', and 'leading students' argumentation.'
The purpose of this study was to find out taxonomic characteristics of objectives infered from questions of summative evaluation by analyzing those objectives with Bloom's revised taxonomy of educational objectives. 1,711 questions of midterm and final examinations collected from 25 middle schools were analyzed to classify objective of each question. The major findings of the study were as follows: first, from the analysis of objectives in the knowledge dimension, the assessment of factual knowledge was most prevailing(67.6%) in the biology summative evaluation. In the cognitive process dimension, memory assessment was most dominant(76.1%). Thus, the main objectives of evaluation leaned toward particular classes in the Bloom's revised taxonomy, which was different from the findings of earlier studies on the weights of evaluation areas. Second, the level of the objectives should be determined in consideration of the grade of middle schoolers, as their cognitive level improves with grade. In fact, however, there was no difference among three grades in characteristics of objective taxonomy.
This study explore characteristics of teaching orientation and pck of science teachers in online-offline mixed learning environment. Data consisted of open-ended survey, semi-structured interview, class observation, field notes from 12 science teachers. We categorized teaching orientation considering both science education goals and science teaching·learning orientation. There were 8 different teaching orientations such as 'understanding science concepts-lecture centered' 'constructing science concepts-inquiry based' 'applying science concepts and inquiry-inquiry based' 'applying science concepts and inquiry-lectured centered' 'analyzing and judging science information-inquiry based' 'developing scientific attitude-inquiry based' 'developing scientific attitude-lecture centered' and 'developing perception of interrelationships among science, technology, and society-inquiry based'. Teachers with inquiry based teaching·learning orientation seemed to have knowledge of science curriculum specific to online learning environment for student inquiry. While teachers with 'understanding science concepts-lecture centered' teaching orientation appeared to have questioning strategy of checking student understanding and strategy of repeating a lecture, teachers with 'constructing science concepts-inquiry based' teaching orientation appeared to have knowledge of instructional strategies to perform online group activities targeting student construction of knowledge and to replace face-to-face group activities with virtual experiments and individual experiments. While teachers with 'understanding science concepts-lecture centered' teaching orientation did not show knowledge of student science learning, teachers with 'constructing science concepts-inquiry based' teaching orientation appeared to have knowledge of student difficulties in inquiry based learning.

The purpose of this study is to investigate beginner and experienced Korean science teachers' perceptions about the science teacher preparation courses from which they graduated, and to compare them. The study was conducted as a qualitative study using in-depth interviews. For the study, interview questions were developed by the authors based on the questionnaire of 'The IMPPACT project' that was being conducted in America. The interview tool includes questions about their experience of science subject matter content knowledge, science pedagogical content knowledge, and general pedagogical content knowledge in their preparation courses. For the interview, seven beginning science teachers, less than five years of teaching experience, and five experienced science teachers, more than five years of teaching experience, were sampled from secondary schools in Korea. The research results are as follows: First, most of the beginner and experienced science teachers perceived that the teaching methods in the classes of science subject matter were not good model for teaching science in their secondary school, because they were not diverse enough and entailed mostly knowledge transfer just through lecture without teacher-student interaction. Second, most of the beginner science teachers perceived that they were affected positively by the teaching strategies and evaluation methods in the classes for science pedagogical subject matter and they could apply those strategies and methods in their current science teaching. Lastly, most of the beginner and experienced science teachers perceived that general pedagogical subject matter is important and prerequisite for science teaching in their schools, but the courses that they experienced at their university were not appropriate for their current teaching.
The purpose of this study is to understand the decision-making behavior of a mathematics teacher in science academy of Korea by applying the framework of class analysis through the theory of goal-oriented decision-making. To this end, we selected as the participant a mathematics teacher in charge of the class of basic calculus of science high school for the gifted in the metropolitan area, and observed the teacher's lesson. Based on a questionnaire derived from previous studies, we analyzed goals, orientations and resources of the teacher. Research results show that there are certain teaching routines by analyzing the behavior patterns that appear repeatedly in the teacher's lesson. Also we understand that it can be used on goals, orientations and resources of the teacher to adequately explain his teaching routine. In the present study, in particular, it was found to have a similar but partially different routines to the teaching routines shown in the study of Schoenfeld. From these findings, We can derive the implications that the theory of goal-oriented decision making can be suitably used as analytical tool for understanding the behavior of the teacher who pursue a productive interaction in mathematics lesson in Korea.

This study aimed to analyze cases of online class design by pre-service science teachers to identify the teaching strategies employed for online classes. For this purpose, the real-time online class lesson plans of 12 pre-service science teachers, who had experienced education utilizing online teaching tools for a semester, were collected and analyzed. The pre-service science teachers considered all the elements that were essential in traditional face-to-face class designs, including prerequisites, statements of learning objectives, stimulating motivation, teaching and learning methods, wrapping up, teacher-student interaction, and assessment. They devised teaching strategies that could overcome the limitations of online teaching and were not feasible in face-to-face classes for each element. Additionally, they were considering new instructional strategies tailored to the online teaching environment, such as creating a conducive environment for using online teaching tools and strategies related to checking the online teaching environment. However, for statements of learning objectives, stimulating motivation, and wrapping up, most of the pre-service science teachers predominantly utilized teaching strategies from traditional face-to-face classes, especially those involving the presentation of visual materials through online tools. Student-centered approaches were rarely implemented in stimulating motivation or wrapping up. These findings imply that one semester of exposure to the utilization of online teaching tools may be insufficient in teacher education. Thus, there is a need for a continuous and expanded educational program on the utilization of online teaching tools as part of pre-service teacher education.
