Thinning Stage on the Development of Fruit Structure in 'Fuji' Apples (적뢰 및 적과에 따른 사과 '후지' 과실의 조직 발달)

  • This study was carried out to verify the effect of fruit thinning on fruit development, and the results were as follows. The number of cells between fruit epidermis and periphery vascular bundle during 35 to 184 days after full bloom (DAFB) were constant with 14~17 cells, regardless of thinning at pink bud stage, fruitlet stage or non-thinning. However, the distance between epidermis and vascular bundle was longest in the fruit thinned at pink stage followed by fruits thinned at fruitlet stage and control. Therefore, it was seemed that the fruit size increment during 35 to 184 DAFB was due to the increment of cell size. Thinning time affected fruit size and the earlier the thinning times were the bigger the fruits were. However, there were no direct relationships between thinning time and the starch or tannin particle development in the cells of the fruit.

Influence of Air Temperature during Midsummer on Fruit Sunburn Occurrence in 'Fuji'/M.9 Apple Tree (한여름 기온이 '후지'/M.9 사과나무의 과실 일소증상 발생에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of air temperature during midsummer on sunburn occurrence that had some problems recently on 'Fuji'/M.9 planting system in Korea. There was a positive relationship between sunburn incidence and accumulated days with high air temperature over $31^{\circ}C$, or accumulated total quantum per day. 'Fuji'/M.9 apple trees with relatively open canopies, compared to 'Fuji'/M.26, were more susceptible to sunburn injury because the fruit was more exposed to sunlight. In 'Fuji'/M.9 apple trees, those that were poor in vigor or with short bourse shoot length were more susceptible to sunburn injury. Sunburn incidence was affected by neither regions nor row orientations. Sunburn was observed most often on the fruits on the south and west sides of the trees. The reason was due to high skin temperature of the fruits reaching $40{\sim}45^{\circ}C$ under full sunlight.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the importance of continuous and detailed follow-up of patients after spinal surgery by reviewing the literature on epidural hematoma and the lower court ruling on lumbar MRI during the judgment on the negligence of postoperative follow-up. In the case of neglecting MRI examination or cooperation after surgery, delaying MRI examination after pain and symptom appeal after surgery, and returning home immediately after neurological symptom development after surgery, negligence in progress observation was recognized. In the case of the case where the negligence was not recognized even after the occurrence of the aftereffects by taking measures against the symptoms, and the case where the scope of the doctor's discretion for the execution of the test was recognized, It is hoped that this study will help prevent medical accidents and disputes related to follow-up after spinal surgery by increasing awareness of the importance of prompt MRI examination, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and power, especially in the case of new neurological symptoms.

Effects of Pruning on the Fruiting and Fruit Characteristics of Old Aged Chestnut (밤나무 노령목 전정처리가 결실 및 과실특성에 미치는 영향)

  • 밤나무는 임업분에서 재배역사가 가장 오래된 임산물 중 하나로써 다양한 지역에서 재배되고 있다. 또한 우리나라의 대표적인 단기소득 임산물로서 1970년대부터 산림청에서 고소득 작목으로 적극 권장하면서 전국적으로 보급되었고 이후 밤 생산량은 점차 증가하였으나 최근 생산자의 노령화에 따른 노동력 부족 및 밤나무 수령 증가에 따라 밤 생산량이 감소하고 있다. 본 연구는 이천지역에서 노령화된 밤나무 '단택'(45년생)을 선정하고 전정처리에 따른 밤나무의 결실 및 과실특성 조사를 통해 노령목 밤나무의 효율적인 재배관리기술의 기초자료로 활용하고자 수행하였다. 노령목 밤나무의 평균 수고 및 수관폭은 10.8 m, 8.5 m(N-S), 8.6 m(E-W)로 조사되었으며, 전정 후 수고 및 수관폭은 5.0 m, 4.1 m(N-S), 4.5 m(E-W)로 나타났다. 전정처리에 따른 착구수는 무처리구에서 216.9개로 전정처리구(144.8개) 보다 많았지만 입중은 전정처리구가 23.1 g으로 무처리구 15.7 g보다 높게 나타났다. 밤 과실의 당도 및 경도는 각각 무처리구 $14.8^{\circ}Brix$, 92.7 N, 전정처리구 $15.2^{\circ}Brix$, 93.9 N으로 처리간 유의적인 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 과실등급은 '특'(22g 이상), '대'(18~22g), '중'(15~18g), 소(15g 미만) 4등급으로 분류하였다. 과실등급 비율은 무처리구와 전정처리구에서 각각 '특'(11.9%, 59.5%), '대'(22.0%, 21.6%), '중'(21.2%, 11.1%), '소'(44.9%, 7.8%)로 전정처리구가 무처리구보다 '특' 및 '대' 비율이 2.4배 높았다. 따라서 밤나무 노령목의 전정처리는 상품성이 우수한 높은 등급의 과실생산에 효율적인 것으로 판단된다.

Flowering, Fruit Characteristic and Shoot Growth of the Mango, cv. 'Irwin' in Response to D ifferent Night Temperature (야간온도 변화에 따른 망고 'Irwin'의 개화, 과실특성 및 수체생육)

  • The effect of night temperature was investigated on mango (Mangifera indica cv. Irwin) for setting appropriate night temperature and managing mango cultivation in a greenhouse. Different night temperatures (10, 15, and 20℃) were treated from budding to fruit development in mango trees. As night temperature increased, the initiation of flowering, full blooming, fruiting, and fruit development tended to be accelerated. There were no significant differences in the growth of shoots flushed after the fruit harvest among trees treated with different night temperatures. The lengths of the flower stalk were the shortest at 10℃ of night temperature; however, there were no significant differences between 15℃ and 20℃ of the night temperature. The length, diameter, and weight of mango fruits were higher at 15℃ and 20℃ than 10℃. Soluble solid contents and acidities showed no difference; the firmness and skin color were better as the night temperature increased. Accordingly, setting the minimum night temperatures to 15℃ or 20℃ can increase the number of fruits and produce high-quality fruits when cultivating mango in the greenhouse. Even the minimum night temperature to 15℃ can reduce heating costs in the greenhouse.

Criteria of Fruit Quality and Harvest for Production of High Quality Small and Medium-Sized Fruits in 'Hanareum' Pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) (고품질 중소과 생산을 위한 '한아름' 배의 과실 품질 및 수확 기준)

  • 'Hanareum' pear is expected to produce the high quality small and medium-sized fruits without any major changes in the current cultivation techniques, inasmuch as its basic characteristics are already included in the range of small and medium-sized fruits. Thus, we tested the possibility of utilization of 'Hanareum' pear for producing small and medium-sized fruits, while establishing the limit of minimum fruit weight for the fruits in high quality. With the results of correlation analysis, it was possible to predict the fruit weight through the observation of soluble solid contents and flesh firmness, because both factors were closely correlated to fruit weight in all treatments. Moreover, these factors were confirmed to be useful indicators of forecasting consumer preference in the sensory evaluation. The fruit marketability was excellent under the conditions that were greater than $11.6^{\circ}Bx$ and less than 25.6 N for soluble solid contents and flesh firmness, respectively. When applying these standards of fruit quality to the results of regression analysis for fruit weight, non-treated fruits fulfilled both standards when the fruit weight was higher than 436 g, and the quality uniformity was also high on this state. Therefore, the production of high quality small and medium-sized fruits was determined to be under this condition. The weight limit for GA treated fruits was 620 g, and both fruit quality and uniformity were below the weight range of small and medium-sized fruits, with 300~500 g. Thus, GA treatment was suggested to be avoided, in order to produce the high quality small and medium-sized fruits.

Changes of the Fruit Quality According to Temperature Environment and Marketing Period during Simulated Exportation in 'Whasan' Pears ('화산' 배 모의수출 기간 중 온도환경 및 유통기간에 따른 품질변화)

  • In this study, we evaluated the fruit quality indices and the incidence of physiological disorders of Korean new pear cultivar 'Whasan' to determine appropriate harvest time for exportation and to enhance storability and shelf-life of the fruits during simulated exportation and extending market environment under different temperature conditions. In the experiment of simulated exportation headed for North America including Canada and U.S.A., the fruits transported at $1^{\circ}C$ showed less weight loss than those of $5^{\circ}C$. Market temperature appeared as a key factor for keeping freshness of exported pear fruits rather than transportation temperature. Quality factors such as high flesh firmness and low incidence of fruit rot and physiological disorders including core breakdown and pithiness were attained at the fruits maintained at $18^{\circ}C$ when we compared with $25^{\circ}C$. The fruits of harvested early maturity at 135 day after full bloom showed 28.6 N of flesh firmness when the fruits stored at $1^{\circ}C$ of transportation and $18^{\circ}C$ of market temperature, while the fruits progressed $5^{\circ}C$ of transportation and $25^{\circ}C$ of market temperature dropped to 24.2 N during 30 days of shelf life. Also, a high incidences of physiological disorders and of fruit decay rates were obvious in the fruits distributed at $25^{\circ}C$ were observed approximately two times higher than the those of $18^{\circ}C$. Therefore, temperature management during marketing resulted as an important point for maintaining fruits quality in the process of pear fruit exportation.

Effect of Irrigation Automation Using Stem Diameter Variation as an Indicator of Irrigation Timing in Greenhouse Tomato (온실재배 토마토에서 관개시기 진단지표로 경직경 변화를 이용한 관개 자동화 효과)

  • The automatic irrigation system using the stem diameter monitoring and the transpiration model for the determination, respectively, of irrigation timing and amount was designed and evaluated for its applicability in pot and field culture of greenhouse tomato. In the pot culture condition, the yield and quality of greenhouse tomato were improved when irrigation was practiced based on the stem diameter monitoring and the transpiration model as compared to the irrigation practice based on soil moisture monitoring. However, the effects were not significant in the field culture condition.

  • The main issue in medical malpractice civil litigation is medical negligence and the causal relationship between medical negligence and damages. Regarding the presumption of causality in cases where medical negligence is proven, there is a previous Supreme Court decision 93da52402 on February 10, 1995, but it is difficult to find a case that satisfies the textual requirements of the above decision, and yet, in practice, the above decision is cited. In many cases, causal relationships were assumed, and criticism was consistently raised that it was inconsistent with the text of the above judgment. In its ruling, the Supreme Court reorganized and presented a new legal principle regarding the presumption of causality when medical negligence is proven in a civil lawsuit. According to this, If the patient proves ① the existence of an act that is assessed as a medical negligence, that is, a violation of the duty of care required of an ordinary medical professional at the level of medical care practiced in the field of clinical medicine at the time of medical practice, and ② that the negligence is likely to cause damages to the patient, the burden of proving the causal relationship is alleviated by presuming a causal relationship between medical negligence and damage. Here, the probability of occurrence of damage does not need to be proven beyond doubt from a natural scientific or medical perspective, but if recognizing the causal relationship between the negligence and the damage does not comply with medical principles or if there is a vague possibility that the negligence will cause damage, causality cannot be considered proven. Meanwhile, even if a causal relationship between medical negligence and damage is presumed, the party that performed the medical treatment can overturn the presumption by proving that the patient's damage was not caused by medical negligence. Meanwhile, unlike civil cases, the standard is 'proof beyond reasonable doubt' in criminal cases, and the legal principle of presuming causality does not apply. Accordingly, in a criminal case of professional negligence manslaughter that was decided on the same day regarding the same medical accident, the case was overturned and remanded for not guilty due to lack of proof of a causal relationship between medical negligence and death. The above criminal ruling is a ruling that states that even if 'professional negligence' is recognized in a criminal case related to medical malpractice, the person should not be judged guilty if there is a lack of clear proof of 'causal relationship'.

Standards of Due Diligence and Separation of Responsibilities in the Division of Labor in Medicine (분업적 의료행위에 있어서 주의의무위반 판단기준과 그 제한규칙들)

  • In the division of labor (or teamwork) in medicine, the responsibility of medical and nursing staff should be separated or distributed to justify negligent criminal offenses. The present work refers to the standards by which the due diligence and responsibility of the individual persons are to be determined and delimited. In this context, it has been proven that objective theory as a measure of due diligence is appropriate. From a moral point of view, when assessing due diligence, it makes sense to impose greater individual or higher performance demands on the perpetrator, but law and order require that due diligence should result from socially relevant human behavior. To give objective measure of negligence and to provide the highest level of personal responsibility, so that man can not be burdened too much responsibility and it is accordingly with an equality theorem. Afterwards some points are presented, which should be considered in a concrete fact in the determination of the medical negligence. Medical action has specific characteristics such as professionalism, discretionary and exclusive, unbalance of information. These characteristics distinguish medical actions from general negligence. The general level of knowledge, the urgency, working condition and working environment of the medical facility, duration of the professional practice, assessment of the medical activity are crucial in this context. As a standard of delineation of due diligence, I have used the permitted risk and the principle of trust. In the horizontal division of labor, the principle of trust applies. The principle of trust applies in principle in cases of division of labor interaction, when doctors in the same hospital exercise their own specific occupational field or everyone works in another hospital. However, this is not true for every case. In the vertical division of labor, the principle of trust does not apply and the senior physician can not trust the assistant doctors. In this case, the principle of trust is converted into a duty of supervision for assistant doctors by the senior physician. This supervision requirement could be used as a random check.
