A Comparative study of Middle School Students' Images and Perceptions of Scientist, Technician and Engineer (과학자, 기술자, 공학자에 대한 중학생들의 이미지와 인식 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyse middle school students' images and perceptions about scientist, technician and engineer and to compare the images of male students with those of female students. Fralick et al.(2009)'s "Draw a scientist at work and draw an engineer at work" was modified and administered to 110 middle school 3rd grade students (43 male students, 67 female students) from 5 middle schools. They drew the figures at work and took explanation of what the person was doing in a drawing. The results of this study were as follows; First, the representative image of scientist was the man with glasses and lab gown performing the chemical experiment. There were no significant differences between the male students and female students in terms of the scientist images. Second, the representative image of technician was the man who was fixing a car and working with his hands. The technicians were illustrated as working with tools such as wrench, hammer and so on. There were no significant differences between the male students and female students in terms of the technician images. Third, the students involved in this study frequently perceived male engineers as working indoors. But perceptions about performance of engineers were significantly different between male students and female students. A majority of male students recognized that engineers should design, invent and create the products, however many female students perceived the engineers as car mechanics. Fourth, the students perceived differently the scientists' task compared with the technicians', but they had difficulty in distinguishing the scientists' task from the engineers' task.

The Change of Elementary Science Gifted Students' Perception about Engineers and Engineering Practices through Science and Engineering Integrated (SEI) Lessons (과학공학 융합 수업을 통한 초등 과학 영재 학생들의 공학과 공학자에 대한 인식 변화)

  • This study is to investigate how science and engineering integrated (SEI) lessons affect science-gifted students' perceptions about engineers and engineering practices. Twenty elementary science gifted students participate in this study, and they reflect what engineering practice means such as managing limited time and budget. The SEI lessons with 24 hours class time are used as an intervention. The main data are collected with 'engineer and engineering drawing test', open-ended questions and interviews about the drawing, and focus group interviews about the lessons. The transcribed interview data are analyzed using mixed methodology of quantitative (descriptive and paired t-test) and qualitative methods. The result shows that the SEI lessons have positive impacts on the science-gifted students' perceptions about engineers and engineering practices such as engineering design. After the lessons, the students perceive engineering and engineers in a desired way such as engineering as a social practice that many experts work collaboratively, the interaction between engineering and society, and the importance of ethics and social values in engineering practice.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate elementary school students' perceptions about science, engineering and technology and their images of scientists, engineers, and technicians. In order to investigate students' images of scientists, engineers, technicians and student's perception of science, engineering, and technology, we used the tools "Draw a scientist at work, Draw an engineer at work, and Draw a technician at work". We have revised the tool DAST (Draw a scientist test), which was used in Fralick et al.'s study (2009). Subjects were 209 6th grade students sampled from an elementary school in G-city in Korea. According to the results of this study, the students' representative image of a scientist was similar to stereotypical scientist image in previous studies, but the students perceived science as a field of research with various professionals. The students' representative image of an engineer was a man with short hair, no beard or mustache, wearing ordinary clothes but no glasses. The engineer was designing or constructing a ship, a robot, a computer, and an airplane. The students' representative image of a technician was a man with short hair, wearing protective goggles and a mask for welding. The technician was fixing a car, a robot, a rocket, etc. and working with wrenches, hammers, screw drivers, welding machines, etc. Many students didn't perceive engineering and technology as fields of research. Also, many students didn't variously perceive engineering and technology as fields and ways of study.

  • 최근 전체 교통사고 보행 사상자 중 우회전 차량에 의한 보행 사상자의 비율이 2018년 9.6%, 2019년 10%, 2020년 10.4%로 증가세에 있다. 현재는 이러한 상황을 해결하기 위해 국토교통부에서는 2022년부터 보행자 보호 의무 위반 운전자에게 최대 10%의 보험료 할증을 부과하고, 경찰청은 '교차로서 일단정지'를 골자로 하는 도로교통법 개정안을 공포하고 2022년 7월 12일부터 시행한다고 밝혔다. 본 논문은 이러한 상황에서 운전자나 보행자 모두가 안심할 수 있도록 하는 '보행자 안전을 위한 횡단보도의 구현' 기술을 제안한다. 법체계가 아닌 바리케이드와 초음파 거리센서, 압력센서 등을 활용한 물리적인 시스템으로 운전자들의 혼란을 해소하고 보행자들이 안심하고 건널 수 있는 횡단보도를 구현하여 최근 증가하고 있는 우회전 보행자 사고를 예방 할 것이다.

  • 용접작업은 다양한 산업에서 이루어지는 중요한 작업인데 반해, 여러 가지 위험요소들로 인해 작업자의 건강에 위협을 가할 수 있다. 또한, 용접 작업자들을 효율적으로 관리할 수 있는 안전점검인력이 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 논문은 항만 용접 작업자의 안전을 위한 스마트헬멧 제작과 연동 APP을 개발하여, 체계적으로 작업자의 건강을 관리하고 안전사고를 미연에 방지하는 데에 그 목적이 있다.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate and to display circumstances about importance issues connected with various publication data and engineering ethic principle. It is an investigation study about circumstance and actual conditions of engineering ethics education that is spoken by engineering ethics or engineer ethics on present Japan. Engineering ethics principle, or engineer ethics education is continued until present appearing in the 1980s by formal course of study in the case of American university. But, in the case of Japan, along with appearance of JABEE (Japanese Accreditation Board for engineering education), engineering ethics education for engineer is proceeded very intensively. At present, the purpose of engineering ethics education is heard on important engineering literary category so much so that can emphasize very as basic attitude to prepare everybody if it is a person who is to be an engineer. The present condition and circumstance of Japanese engineering ethics education analysis may become good information in the beginning step on ethics principle education of engineering our country.

  • 학습자와 학습객체간의 학습추론을 하기 위해서는 우선 학습자와 학습객체간의 연관성 정도를 파악해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 학습자가 전체 학습 중에 수강한 학습과 수강하지 않은 학습, 학습자가 수강한 학습을 전체 다른 학습자가 수강한 것과 수강하지 않는 정도, 학습자가 수강하지 않은 학습에 대한 전체 다른 학습자가 수강한 것과 수강하지 않는 정도를 가지고 2X2 메트릭스를 만들어 학습자와 학습객체간의 연관성 정도를 파악하여 이를 바탕으로 학습추론 시스템을 개발한다.

Interactive Education of Introductory Engineering via Multimedia (멀티미디어를 이용한 인터액티브 공학개론 교육)

  • We introduce an introductory engineering education course for engineering majors and non-engineering majors. This course does not require any previous knowledge and experience on engineering. It requires strong curiosities and imaginations on current and future society we live in, where technology is inseparable ingredient. Course encourages attendees to explore fundamental issues of engineering: what is proper technology and what are proper ways of exercising engineering, issues dealt in soft engineering. Since course topics cover many aspects of technology, traditional learning methods fail to be successful and efficient. Various efficient learning methods have been proposed and implemented. We utilize various interactive tangible media, which include simulated thought experiments and physical media experiences. About twenty (20) episodes in short film format are produced based on scenario written according to related issues selected. Physical media like interactive robots are introduced for attendees' stimulated experiences. We summarize our exciting experiments on interactive teaching experiences at Pusan National University which include on/off-line interactions, assignments, projects, and evaluations.

  • 교통사고는 차량 운전자의 부주의 및 보행자의 안전 불감증 등 여러 가지 이유로 다양한 형태의 교차로에서 사고가 발생한다. 이것을 개선하고자 본 논문에서는 보행자 위험 알림 시스템을 구현하였다. 이 시스템은 YOLO v4 tiny 알고리즘 사용해 약 8,000장의 보행자와 차량의 사진을 학습시켜 객체 인식의 정확도를 높이고 웹캠과 스피커를 사용하여 보행자에게 위험을 알릴 뿐만 아니라, 사고 발생 등의 경우에 대해서 블랙박스 역할을 할 수 있도록 구현하였다.

  • 코로나로 인해 비대면 온라인 수업으로 운영된 수업환경에서 컴퓨터공학 분야의 대표적인 실습기반 교과목인 프로그래밍 수업은 학습자들에게 온라인 수업이지만 대면 수업의 실재감을 제공하는 질적 개선 방법을 모색할 필요성이 대두되었다. 본 연구는 플립러닝에 기반 한 실시간 수업을 활용하여 실습 기반 프로그래밍 수업에서 학습자의 능동적 수업 참여를 유도하고, 교수자와 학습자, 학습자와 학습자 간의 상호작용이 원활한 수업을 통해 대면 수업 수준의 실재감을 학습자에게 제공하고 학습효과를 높이고자 하였다. 적용결과, 온라인 수업에서 플립러닝 기반 수업 설계가 실습 기반 수업에 대면수업 수준의 학습 효과 및 만족도가 있었음을 조사·분석하였다.
