  • In order to examine the effect of beam location n the performance of bridge type piozoresistive silicon accelerometer, three sensors having different location of beams were simulated by FEN(finite element method) and fabricated by RIE(reactive ion etching) and KOH etching method using SDB(silicon direct bonding) wafer, Results of the FEM simulation present that the 1st resonace frequency and Z axis sensitivity of each sensor are identical but the 2nd, and the 3rd resonace frequency and X, Y axis sensitivity are different. Even though the 1st resonance frequency and Z axis sensitivity measured from fabricated sensors do not perfectly coincide with each other, all 3 type sensors present 180 ~ 220N/G of Z sensitivity at 5 V supply voltage and 1.3 ~ 1.7kHz of the 1st resonance frequency and about 2% of lateral sensitivity.

  • The primary windings of the main transformer for rolling stock have several natural frequencies that can occur internal resonance with transient voltages induced on a high voltage feeding line. Factory testing is limited in its ability to determine whether or not transient voltage with various shape and duration can be excitable. This study presents the design of a high voltage windings model and simulation and analysis of the internal resonant characteristics in terms of the initial voltage distribution and voltage-frequency relationship using the electromagnetic transients program (EMTP). Turn-based lumped-parameters are calculated using the geometry data of the transformer. And, sub-models, being grouped into the total number of layers, are composed using a ladder-network model and implemented by the library function of EMTP. Case studies are used to show the layer-based voltage-frequency relationship characteristics according to the frequency sweep and the voltage escalation and distribution aspects in time-domain simulation.

  • A vibration-powered piezoelectric energy harvester yields the maximum power output when its resonant frequency is made equal to the excitation frequency; however, the power output is dramatically decreased when the energy harvester is operated at off-resonance frequency. It has been observed that the resonant frequency of a piezoelectric energy harvester may change with time and that the excitation frequency often varies when the energy harvester is used in real applications. Hence, in this study, we propose a piezoelectric energy-harvesting module that is suitable for excitations in a certain frequency range. The frequency characteristics of the electrical output of the module are studied through analysis and experiment. A simple frequency tuning method is also suggested for the proposed energy-harvesting module; in this method, frequency tuning is achieved by changing the electrical connections between the constituent energy-harvesting units of the module.

  • An air conditioner impeller has been used to suck the warm air and to blow the chilled air by the centrifugal force induced from the rotation of it. To check the possibility of the fracture due to resonance, both numerical and experimental approach was carried out. For the structural analysis, the commercial code ANSYS based on the Finite Element Method was employed. The possibility of the fracture is the resonance between the natural frequency of impeller and characteristic frequency due to the aerodynamic forces. Experiment was carried out to see the natural frequency and numerical analysis based on the Vortex Element Method is performed to get the characteristic frequency. Comparing the natural frequencies that are calculated as described, we believe that resonance occurs.

  • This study aimed to understand the mode characteristics of a droplet subject to periodic forced vibration and the detachment of a droplet placed on a plate surface. An surface was coated with Teflon to clearly observe the behavior of a droplet. The contact angle between the droplet and surface and the hysteresis were found to be approximately $115^{\circ}C$ and within $25^{\circ}C$, respectively. The coating process was performed in a clean room that had an environment with a low level of contaminants and impurities such as air dust, detergents, and particles. To predict the resonance frequency of a droplet, theoretical and experimental approaches were applied. Two high-speed cameras were configured to acquire side and top views and thus capture different characteristics of a droplet: the mode shape, the detachment, the separated secondary droplet, and the waggling motion. A comparison of the theoretical and experimental results shows no more than 18 discrepancies when predicting the resonance frequency. These differences seem to be caused by contact line friction, nonlinear wall adhesion, and the uncertainty of the experiment. For lower energy inputs, the contact line of the droplet was pinned and the oscillation pattern was axisymmetric. However, the contact line of the droplet was de-pinned as the oscillation became more vigorous with increased energy input. The size of each lobe at the resonance frequency is somewhat larger than that at the neighboring frequency. A droplet in mode 2, one of the primary mode frequencies, exhibits vertical periodic movement as well as detachment and secondary ejection from the main droplet.

  • In this paper, a half wave-length microstrip antenna was proposed to be able to continuously tune the resonant frequency in the stated area of UHF ISM band. By loading varactor diodes at both edges of the half wavelength antenna, where the electric field is the strongest, and varying the voltage in order to tune the electrical resonance length continuously, it is possible to automatically recover the resonant frequency and input impedance shifted by surrounding environment. When the microstrip antenna(center resonant frequency: 425 MHB) was tested, by adjusting the each voltages of varactor diodes from DC 0.6 to BC 3.0 volts, the resonant frequency under 20 dB return loss was varied 385 to 465 MHz. The peak gain was -0.2 dBd and return loss -10 dB bandwidth was 3.3 MHz(0.8 %).

  • In this paper, in implementing a 4-coil resonant wireless power transmission system, we studied the discharge phenomenon that occurs at the end of the transmitting resonance coil. Resonant wireless power transmission consists of a power supply coil, a transmitting resonance coil, a power receiving resonance coil, and a load coil. The transmitting resonance coil serves to amplify the magnetic field generated from the power supply coil and transmits it to the front receiving resonance coil. When a high current flows through the power supply coil in order to transmit large power, a high voltage is induced at the end of the transmitting resonance coil. It causes line-to-line discharge. Line-to-line discharge phenomenon damages the transmitter case and renders the transmitter unusable. Therefore, in order to eliminate this line-to-line discharge phenomenon, the voltage induced in the transmitting resonance coil that causes line-to-line discharge was analyzed and a solution was proposed.

  • A flow induced mechanical vibration and acoustic resonance should be considered at design stage because they are mainly occurred in the tube bank of boiler. Acoustic resonance is occurred when the vortex shedding frequency of tube bank coincides with the acoustic natural frequency of the cavity. Effective solution to avoid acoustic resonance is installing acoustic baffles in the tube banks parallelly inside of the flow cavity. Thus, location and number of acoustic baffles should be exactly calculated to eliminate the acoustic resonance. This paper presents case study of acoustic resonance due to inappropriate number and location of acoustic baffles. Measured frequency and mode in the study is verified by FEM acoustic modal analysis. The number and location of acoustic baffles to avoid acoustic resonance are calculated by using FEM acoustic modal analysis.

  • In this paper, medium-power wireless power transmission is implemented using the commercial power frequency (60 Hz). Since general magnetic induction wireless power transmission devices use more than several tens of kHz, the commercial power frequency (60 Hz) cannot be used as is. Therefore an AC/DC converter is used to convert the 60 Hz power frequency into DC, and a high-frequency power amplifier is used to convert DC into several tens of kHz. In magnetic induction wireless power transmission, the AC/DC converter and high-frequency power amplifier are removed, and a extremely low frequency wireless power transmission(ELF-WPT) system using commercial frequency consisting of only transmitting resonance tank, transmitting coil, receiving resonance tank, and receiving coil is implemented, and verified through wireless power transmission experiments.
