Proeutectoid ${\alpha}$ Reaction at Sub-eutectoid Temperatures in Binary Bypoeutectoid Ti-Co, Ti-Fe Alloys (2원계 아공석 Ti-Co, Ti-Fe 합금의 공석반응 온도 아래의 온도에서 초석 ${\alpha}$ 반응)

  • A TEM study on proeutectoid ${\alpha}$ reaction at sub-eutectoid temperatures has been made in hypoeutectoid Ti-3.gw/o Co and Ti-5.2w/o Fe alloys. Widmanstatten ${\alpha}$ plates were formed in both alloys within the ${\beta}$ matrix with some modification of degenerate forms. These degenerate plates were formed by the sympathetic nucleation of ${\alpha}$ plates at ${\alpha}:{\beta}$ interphase boundaries. Three types of sympathetic nucleation, i.e., edge-to-edge, face-to-edge, face-to-face, were found in both alloys. The edge-to-edge sympathetically nucleated crystals formed a low-angle boundary between two crystals. The ${\alpha}:{\beta}$ interphase boundaries were found to be partially coherent interfaces which consist of regularly spaced misfit dislocations. The growth of these interphase boundaries were accomplished by the lateral movement of growth ledges. The intersection points of two ${\alpha}$ plates or the low angle boundaries which had formed by edge-to-edge sympathetic nucleation played a role as the potential sources of growth ledges during the growth of plate. The interfacial structures and the spatial morphologies of the degenerate proeutectoid ${\alpha}$ plates would be expected to influence the nucleation and growth of the succeeding eutectoid decomposition process.

Metallic Mineralogical Characteristics of Forged Iron Axe from the Wood-framed Tomb at the Hwangseongdong, Gyeongju, Korea (경주 황성동 목곽묘 출토 단조 철부의 금속광물학적 특성)

  • The forged iron axe of the middle 3rd Century found in the No. 2 wood-framed tomb from the Hwangseongdong site, Gyeongju is rectangular on the plane level. The iron axe shines in met-allic luster, which is light grey with pale creamy tint. The result of X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the axe consists of magnetite and geothite, which can explain why the composition and texture of the original ore has been kept intact. There are fine-grained quartz, calcite, mica, magnetite, amphibole, unknown tungsten minerals, pyroxene and olivine inside the axe. Those must be the impurities that they failed to remove in the thermal treatment process. Generally, the iron axe consists mainly of pearlite texture coexisting ferrite and cementite, and show high carbon contents with homogeneous distribution. It can be interpreted the axe was carburized after the material was made to resemble pure iron. The decarbonization work didn't go well along the process marks. Crude ores of the iron axe are possible utilized by magnetite from the Ulsan mine on the basis of the occurrences and inclusions. It's estimated that the original ore was bloom produced in low-temperature reduction and formed around in $727^{\circ}C$, which is eutetic temperature.

Adsorption Characteristics of Charcoals of Major Korean Wood Species and Wood-based Materials (국산 주요 수종 및 목질재료 탄화물의 흡착 특성)

  • This research was to investigate the adsorption characteristics of charcoals of major Korean wood species (thinned trees) and wood-based materials. As carbonization time and temperature increased, methylene-blue adsorption (MBA) of charcoals of thinned trees and wood-based materials increased. Pinus koraiensis charcoal showed the highest MBA. MBA of softwoods was higher than that of hardwoods. There was a negative correlation between air-dried specific gravity before carbonization and MBA of carbonized thinned trees. The MBA of wood-based materials showed similar value, but wood-based materials in MBA was lower than thinned woods. Surface area and total pore volume of thinned trees and wood-based materials increased as carbonization temperature increased. The species showing highest MBA appeared to have the highest surface area at the carbonization temperature of 600℃ as well. There was a positive correlation between surface area, total pore volume and MBA of charcoals. The charcoal of wood-based materials generally exhibited micro pores.

  • 본 연구는 ADI의 기계적 성질을 개선하고자 오스테나이트화 과정에서 초기 변태온도를 $900^{\circ}C$ (${\gamma}$ 구역)에서 시작하여 $800^{\circ}C$까지(${\alpha}+{\gamma}$ 구역) 일정한 냉각제어에 의해 오스템퍼링을 한다. 여기서 Full ADI에서 생성되는 고탄소 오스테나이트 조직을 저탄소 오스테나이트로 유도하고 미세한 침상의 Full ADI조직을 연성이 높은 조대한 아공석 페라이트 조직이 생성되도록 하여 Semi ADI를 만든다. Full ADI와 Semi ADI의 기계적 성질 및 피로강도를 연구한 결과 Full ADI와 Semi ADI의 정적강도는 유사하지만, 피로강도는 Semi ADI의 기지조직의 변화에 기인하여 Full ADI보다 피로강도가 높게 나타났다. 이러한 현상은 Semi ADI의 조대한 페라이트가 균열개구 저항력이 낮아 초기에는 쉽게 개구되지만, 균열개구와 동시에 균열선단에서 큰 소성역이 발생되어 균열성장이 지연하는 효과로 판단된다.

  • Ni-W 합금도금은 내마모성, 내산성 및 내열성 등의 여러 특성을 가지며 높은 피막경도도 안정하게 얻어지기 때문에 경질 Cr 도금의 대체도금으로서 유리 성형용 금형, 롤러 표면재료, 자동차 접동부품 등 다양한 공업 분야와 제품에 적용되고 있다. Ni-W 합금도금은 도금액 및 전해조건에 따라서 도금 피막에 균열이 생기는 경우가 있다. 도금 피막의 균열 발생요인으로서 도금재료의 환경온도에 의한 열응력, 도금 피막과 기재와의 팽창 수축 차이에 의한 영향을 생각할 수 있다. 도금 내부응력의 발생이유로서 공석한 수소의 이탈설, 결정합체설, 이외에 과잉 에너지설 및 결자결함설도 제안되고 있다.

대향타겟식 스퍼터법으로 제작된 ZnO/Glass 박막의 결정학적 특성에 관한 연구

  • ZnO 박막은 대칭 육방정계(hexagonal) wurtzite-type crystal로써 결정구조에서의 이방성, 비화학양론 결합구조와 다양한 전기적, 광학적 그리고 타성파적 성질 때문에 현재 여러 응용분양에서 각광을 받고 있는 재료 중의 하나이다. 이러한 특성을 갖는 ZnO 박막은 결정학적으로 기판에 수직인 c-축 우선방위현상(preferred orientation)을 나타내며 압전 특성을 이용하여 응용을 할 경우 이 c-축 우선방위현상에 따라 압전 특성에 큰 차이가 있으며 ZnO 박막의 형성 조건에 의해 c-축 우성배향성은 큰 차이가 있다. 특히 스퍼터법을 이용하여 ZnO 박막을 형성하는 경우에는 투입전력, 기판온도, 분위기 가스압력, 타겟간 거리등의 증착조건에 의해 결정학적 및 전기적 특성이 크게 영향을 받게 된다. 따라서 결정학적으로 양호하며 고품위의 특성을 갖는 ZnO 박막을 제작하기 위해서는 최적의 증착조건을 확립하여 ZnO 박막을 제작할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서 사용된 대향 타겟식 스퍼터장치는 두 개의 타겟이 서로 마주보게 배치되어 있고 양 타겟에 수직으로 분포하고 있는 자계가 ${\gamma}$-전자를 구속하게 되어 고밀도의 플라즈마를 형성할 수가 있다. 따라서 10-4Torr에서도 안정한 방전을 유지할 수가 있으며 기판의 위치가 플라즈마로부터 이격되어 (plasma-free)있는 위치에 있기 때문에 플라즈마내의 높은 에너지를 갖는 입자들의 기판충돌을 최대한 억제하여 고품위의ZnO 박막을 제작할 수가 있다. 이러한 특징을 갖는 대향타겟식스퍼터장치를 이용하여 본 연구에서는 비정질 slide glass를 기판으로 하여 ZnO 박막을 증착하였으며 XRD(X-ray Diffractometer)를 이용하여 증착된 ZnO 박막의 결정학적 특성을 측정하였다. ZnO 박막은 산소 가스압력과 기판온도, 인가 전류를 변화시켜가며 증착하였으며 이에 따른 박막의 결정성 변화를 알아보았다. 기판온도를 실온에서 점차 증가시켜나가면 $\Delta$$\theta$50은 급격히 감소하며 30$0^{\circ}C$에서는 결정성이 우수한 막을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 산소 가스 압력이 0.5~1mTorr에서 $\Delta$$\theta$50은 양호한 값을 나타내었지만 그 이상에서는 c-축 배향성이 나빠짐을 확인하였다. 따라서 대향타겟식스퍼터 장치를 이용하여 ZnO 박막을 증착시 가스압력 0.5~1mTorr, 기판온도 20$0^{\circ}C$이상의 막 제작조건에서 결정성이 우수하게 나타나는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

A Study of the Characteristics of Different Coffee Beans by Roasting and Extracting Condition (종류별 커피의 볶음 및 추출조건에 따른 품질 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Caffeine is one of the most well known stimulants which can potentially increase mental performance, release fatigue and decrease depression. Green beans from different soils and climates contain different levels of caffeine, and as well as extracted coffee with different roasting and extracting methods. An investigation looking at pH, acidity, extractable solid and caffeine contents was assessed according to roasting and extracting conditions of various coffee beans. Brazilian coffee beans did not show much variation in pH with respect to roasting and extracting temperature, however, acidity increased in low roasting and extracting temperatures. This was however most prominently observed in Ethiopian and Indonesian coffee beans. The large expansion of coffee bean cells renders them highly porous to the passage of water, consequently extracted solids were found to increase with increasing temperature. This was especially apparent in Columbian coffee which had the highest extracted solids. The amount of caffeine extracted from coffee beans also increased with the higher temperature extraction. The Indonesian and Vietnam robusta coffee varieties showed the highest caffeine content.

산화물 음극 표면의 과잉 바륨 형성 메커니즘 규명

  • 우리는 연-X-선 흡수 분광법(soft-X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy ; XAS)을 사용하여 실제 산화물 음극 전자 방출 물질 표면의 화학 구조에 대해 연구하였다. 바륨 3d 흡수단의 고-에너지 분해 스펙트럼은 활성화 과정(온도와 전압 인가) 후에 산화물 음극표면에서 수십 나노미터 깊이 아래까지 바륨 함량이 현저히 증가한다는 것을 보여주었다. 바륨과 산소의 XAS 데이터를 비교해보면 표면에서 과잉 바륨이 형성되는 것을 확실히 입증하고 있다. 게다가 우리는 표면에서의 과잉 바륨의 증가가 활성화 과정에서 열에너지에 의한 것이 아니라 인가된 전압에 의한 것임을 밝혀냈다. 이 결과로 우리는 표면의 과잉 바륨 형성 전체 과정을 규명하고 활성화 동안 표면의 바륨 증가가 분말 입자로부터 니켈 계면으로의 바륨 이온의 전해 이동 속도에 의해 제어된다는 것을 제안한다. 우리는 또한 표면 바륨 증가가 전해 이동에 의한 분말 입자 내의 바륨의 고갈에서 비롯되는 것으로 추정한다.

Mechanisms of Time-dependent Plastic Deformation of Eutectoid and Hypereutectoid Steels at Low T/Tm Temperatures (저 T/Tm 온도에서 공석강 및 과공석강의 시간의존성 소성변형 기구)

  • The rate-controlling mechanisms for time-dependent plastic deformation of eutectoid and hyper-eutectoid pearlitic steels at low $T/T_m$ temperatures were explored. The strain rate - stress data obtained from a series of constant load tensile tests at $0.25{\sim}0.30T/T_m$ were applied to the power law, the lattice friction controlled plasticity, and the obstacle controlled plasticity. Of these models, the obstacle controlled plasticity was found to best-describe the rate-controlling mechanism for time-dependent plastic deformation of two steels at low $T/T_m$ temperatures in terms of the activation energy for overcoming the obstacles against dislocation glide in ferrite. The deformed microstructures revealed the dislocation forests of a high density as the main obstacles. In addition, the obstacle controlled plasticity well-explained the effects of cementite on the $0^{\circ}K$ flow stress of two steels.

Determination of Inherent Strain Regions to Estimate Plate Deformation by Line Heating (선상가열 판변형 해석을 위한 고유변형도 영역의 결정법)

  • The inherent strain method is known to be very effective in predicting the plate deformation by line heating. Traditionally the inherent strain regions have been determined from the temperature distribution and the phase transformation regions(Ac3) of welding experiments. Since the phenomena of line heating are similar to those of welding, the experimental results under the same welding conditions have been applied directly to line heating analysis. The results cannot, however, reflect the effect of heating pattern and plate thickness. Besides, water-cooling in the actual heating process can alter the steel's phase to martensite and shear plastic deformation occurs during the transformation. In this study, the experimental measurement of temperature distribution was substituted with a transient heat transfer analysis using FEM so that we could obtain the temperature distribution according to heat flux models of the heating pass. In order to consider plastic strains occurring additionally under phase transformation, inherent strain regions were assumed to be limited to the eutectoid temperature(Ac1). Using the regions, plate deformations could be predicted to validate our method and the results were in good agreement with the experimental ones
