평행유동에서 공랭식 열전모듈 냉각시스템의 성능에 관한 연구 (A Study on Performance of Thermoelectric Air-Cooling System in Parallel Flow)

  • Experimental and theoretical studies on cooling performance of two-channel thermoelectric air-cooling system in parallel flow are conducted. The effects of operating temperature to physical properties of thermoelectric module (TEM) are experimentally examined and used in the analysis of an air-cooling system considering thermal network and energy balance. The theoretical predicted temperature variation and cooling capacity are in good agreement with measured data, thereby validating analytic model. The heat absorbed rate increases with increasing the voltage input and decreasing thermal resistance of the system. The power consumption of TEM is linearly proportional to mean temperature differences due to variations of the physical properties on operation temperature of TEM. Furthermore thermal resistance of hot side has greater effects on cooling performance than that of cold side.

  • Thermal performance of louver fin and plate fin in a thermoelectric cooling system with a duct-flow type fan arrangement is analytically evaluated. The thermoelectric cooling system consists of a thermoelectric module and two heat exchanger fins. The analytic results show that the optimized louver fin has lower thermal resistance than plate fin. The COP and heat absorbed rate of the thermoelectric cooling system with optimized louver fins are 10.3% and 5.8% higher than optimized plate fins, respectively.

  • A numerical study was conducted to calculate the cooling capacity variation of a power plant ACC (air-cooled condenser) caused by changes in operating conditions. A numerical model was developed using the ${\varepsilon}-NTU$ and finite volume method, containing 100 elements for a single low fin tube. The model was validated through a comparison of cooling capacity between the simulated values and manufacturer's data. Even though simple assumptions and previously presented heat transfer correlations were applied to the model, the prediction error was 1.9%. The simulated variables of the operating conditions were air velocity, air temperature, and mass flux. The analysis on the variation of thermal resistance along the tube showed that the water side thermal resistance was higher than the air side thermal resistance at the downstream end of the tube, indicating that the ACC capacity could be increased by applying technology to enhance in-tube flow condensation heat transfer.

공랭식 미소유로 응축기의 R410A 충전량 예측에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study on R410A Charge Amount in an Air Cooled Mini-Channel Condenser)

  • A numerical study was performed to predict refrigerant charge amount in a mini-channel condenser for a R410A residential air-conditioning system. Multi-channel flat tubes with 12 mini-channels of 1.17 mm average hydraulic diameter for each tube were applied to the condenser. The condenser consisted of 3 passes, and the first, second, and third pass had 44, 19, and 11 tubes, respectively. Each pass was connected by a vertical header. In this study, the condenser was divided into 410 finite volumes, and analyzed by an $\varepsilon$-NTU method. With thermophysical properties and void fraction models for each volume element, the R410A amount distribution and a total charge amount in the condenser were calculated. The predicted total charge amount was compared with the experimentally measured charge amount under a standard ARI A condition. The developed model could predict the charge amount in the mini-channel condenser within prediction errors from -23.9% to -3.0%. Air velocity distribution at the condenser face was considered as non-uniform and uniform by the simulation model, and its results showed that the air velocity distribution could significantly influence the charge amount and vapor phase distribution in the condenser.

  • The rectifier for Electric railway is one of the most important facilities in DC urban railway which converts power from KEPCO(AC 22.9kV) to the electric mil car(DC 1.5kV), therefore it should be managed as the best condition for the drive. There are several things to cause performance degradation and deterioration of parts such as pollutants occurred by it established under the ground such as dust or foreign substances, rapid changes of driving current, and pyrogen which put the rectifier for Electric railway in malfunction. On the flow of time, the rectifier for Electric railway is causing a malfunction or failure which drive electric rail car in operations as well as loss of life. In this research we try to find the way of removing the various components of mal-functions in the performance of the rectifier for Electric railway by Over-Haul and reform itself, which gives us to get the chance investment of the reduction, the reliability of power supply to the electric rail car.

  • Performance of an air-cooled plate heat exchanger (PHE) was evaluated in this study. The PHE was manufactured in two types of single-wave and double-wave plates in parallel assembly. The heat exchanger aims to substitute open-loop cooling towers with closed-loop water circulation, which guarantees cleanliness and compactness. In this study, prototype single-wave and double-wave PHEs were designed and tested in a laboratory scale experiments. From the tests, the double-wave PHE shows approximately 50% enhanced heat transfer performance compared to the single-wave PHE. However, the double-wave PHE costs 30% additional pressure drop. For the commercialization, a wide channel design for air flow would be essential for performance and reliability.

  • The performance of an air to water vapor compression heat pump has been investigated experimentally. The main purpose of this study was to study the possibilities of using hydrocarbon refrigerants as a working fluid to replace R-22 for vapor compression heat pumps. Pure R-22 and R-290, R-600a, R-1270 were considered as working fluids. The performance of the system was characterized by compression shaft work, refrigeration capacity, pressure ratio, discharge temperature and COP. The experimental apparatus has basic parts of cycle that uses the air as a heat source. The experimental results show that refrigeration capacity of HC refrigerants is same or higher than that of R-22. On the other hand, compression shaft work of HC refrigerants is lower than that of R-22. Compression shaft work is lower than that of R-22. Come to the conclusion that, it is possible that hydrocarbon refrigerants could be drop-in alternatives for R-22.

  • This study presents an experiment investigation on natural convection heat transfer of air-cooling Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) in a enclosure system for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Considered are replacing fuel cell stack with Aluminum block for heat generating inside a enclosure chamber. The volume ratio of fuel cell stack and chamber for simulation to the actual size of aerial vehicle is 1 to 15. The parameters considered for experimental study are the environmental temperature range from $25^{\circ}C$ to $-60^{\circ}C$ and the block heat input of 10 W, 20 W and 30 W. Effect of the thermal conductivity of the block and power level on heat transfer in the chamber are investigated. Experimental results illustrate the temperature rise at various locations inside the chamber as dependent upon heat input of fuel cell stack and environmental temperature. From the results, dimensionless correlation in natural convection was proposed with Nusselt number and Rayleigh number for designing air-cooling PEMFC powered high altitude long endurance (HALE) UAV.

공랭식 가스터빈 발전기의 운전중 부분방전 분석 (Analysis of On-Line Partial Discharge in Air-Coolded Gas Turbine Generator)

  • The on-line partial discharge (PD) in stator windings of air-cooled gas turbine (GT) generator (119.2MVA, 13.8kV) is measured and analyzed in this paper. This generator was designed by global vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI). The generator failed two times at top bar (16T) of phase B in the stator slot. Six epoxy-mica capacitors were installed in three phases of GT generator. On-line PD test was performed on GT generator using turbine generator analyzer (TGA). TGA showed that the normalized quantity number (NQN) and the PD magnitude($Q_m$) were high in phase B. Internal discharges were generated in phases A, B and C. The trend analysis of NQN and $Q_m$ value are obtained in order to monitor the insulation condition in GT generator stator windings. Phases A and C were in good condition. But phase B had deteriorated significantly

공랭식 변유량 냉매 냉동기를 적용한 수조 온도의 정밀 제어 (Precision Control of Water Bath Temperature using Air Cooled Variable Refrigerant Flow Chiller)

  • This study compared constant water bath performances of conventional water-cooled refrigerator and electric heater with an air-cooled VRF chiller and electric heater equipped with optimal control algorithm. In heating mode, the air cooled VRF chiller and electric heater combination reduced the set temperature arrival time by an average of 42 minutes, and energy was also reduced by 18%. In cooling mode, the two systems took 70 minutes to reach the set temperature and showed no difference. Energy was reduced by 33.5% with the new system. For constant temperature maintaining experiment, after reaching the set temperature of $15^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $22^{\circ}C$, temperature deviations were all in the range of $-0.2^{\circ}C$ to $+0.1^{\circ}C$. Energy was reduced by an average of 84.9%. Through this study, possibility of precise temperature control by an air cooled VRF chiller system was confirmed.
