In this study, in order to understand the characteristics of the users' information needs for each public library unit, the user needs were analyzed based on the various attribute information of the books loaned to 11 public libraries in 8 districts in Seoul. As a result, the prominent book use patterns of the libraries were revealed, specifically related to the target user groups, purpose/motivation, interests/preferences, book genre, and subject. In addition, there was a preference for authors, and a difference in the role of the preferred authors in each library was also revealed. The results of this study will help to provide guidelines for the development of differentiated collections and service programs based on user needs.

This study aims to analyze the effect of marketing using Chinese public library WeChat official accounts on the perception of the library and loyalty. For this purpose, research possibilities were explored, and a questionnaire was developed through in-depth interviews with users who subscribed to the Chinese public library WeChat official accounts and those who did not. A survey was conducted with the questionnaire for public library users in six regions of China. As a result, it was confirmed that the characteristics of the official account operation had a positive effect on the perception of the libraries and users' loyalty. This study is meaningful in that it verified how Chinese public library marketing using SNS affected users' purpose on the use of libraries, perception of libraries, and users' loyalty, and suggested how to deal with WeChat official accounts among SNS types.

Collection and provision of information for local community by public libraries is a very important task as an infrastructure facility of local community. Therefore, in order to suggest a plan to invigorate community information service of public libraries, this study conducted a survey on users' recognition on and demand for community information service of public libraries which libraries and user perceive. Based on this survey, this study suggested a plan for invigoration of community information service of public libraries through diversification of point of contact for use of community information, development of community information contents reflecting user demand, organization of consultative councils for community information service centering on public libraries, improvement of recognition and vitalization of use of public libraries.

본 연구는 현재 공공도서관 비이용자이나 향후 이용할 가능성이 있는 잠재적 이용자의 공공도서관 비이용 원인이 무엇인지를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 하며, 이를 위해 도서관 이용 중단자 및 비이용자 3명을 대상으로 한 심층면담의 내용을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 잠재적 이용자들의 이용/비이용에 영향을 미치는 요인들로서 '동기', '도서관 지식', '만족', '접근성', '대용채널'의 5가지를 파악할 수 있었으며, 공공도서관에 대한 요구사항이 개선되었을 경우 이용할 의향이 있는 것으로 나타났다.

In public libraries, there are many difficulties in fulfilling requests by users, as typically have from diverse backgrounds and purposes for visiting the library. To overcome this problem, collection development for public libraries is required to enhance the satisfaction level of users regarding public library materials. Thus, in this study, a survey was conducted of users of 10 public libraries located in Seoul to analyze their collection-use behaviors and the study finally presents collection development for public libraries in Seoul based on data acquired.

현재 공공도서관에서는 홈페이지를 통한 이용자 교육 프로그램이 미비한 실정으로, 이 연구에서는 현재 도서관 홈페이지에서 제공하는 이용자 교육관련 항목들을 분석하여 향후 공공도서관 홈페이지를 이용한 이용자 교육 프로그램의 발전을 위한 제언을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 기존 문헌에서의 평가 기준과 전문가의 자문을 통하여 공공도서관 홈페이지의 이용자 교육관련 항목에 대한 분석기준을 확립하고, 이에 따라 공공도서관 홈페이지의 이용자 교육관련 항목들을 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 공공도서관 홈페이지 이용자 교육에서 필요한 사항들에 대해 제언하고자 한다.

The study examined the behavior of infant's caregivers using public libraries, measured the level of awareness of infant and toddler services in the library to determine the factors affecting their revisit or recommendation of use to others, and examined the impact of such recognition on the use behavior, revisit and willingness to recommend others. The study surveyed 146 caregivers of infants who use four public libraries in Gwangju Metropolitan City on demographic characteristics, library use behavior, level of awareness of library services, library revisit and recommendation to others. Analysis of this survey shows that the factors that influence the caregivers' revisit of the library or their desire to recommend to others through their caregivers' use of the library are the factors that influence the expansion of information data, the stability of space facilities, the accessibility of space facilities, and the ease of participation in programs among the various service factors provided by the library rather than the personal factors of infants and toddlers' caregivers.

The purpose of this study is to suggest how to improve the public library service for the disabled, by analyzing stakeholders' needs for it. To this end, it analyzed stakeholders' needs, by conducting an analysis on the current condition of the public library service for the disabled, and IPA on and FGI with the disabled, beneficiaries of the service and service provides, employees in charge of it. The findings show that the current condition of the public library service for the disabled is very poor in terms of disabled users, budget for the service for the disabled and special data for the disabled. For the analysis on the needs for the service for the disabled, the results of IPA suggest that it is necessary to improve relevant policies and manage integrated programs reflecting users' needs, and those of FGI indicate that perceptions on disability need to be improved among the disabled, the non-disabled and employees, and that the usage guidance and publicity are required for disabled users to generally use the public library service.

This study aims at exploring the Eco-generation's perception on public libraries depending on the use of cultural programs. For this purpose, a series of in-depth interviews was conducted with public library users in the Eco-generation in order to investigated the current status of the cultural programs in public libraries and their underlying identity. The results identifies that user experience of library cultural programs did not make a meaningful difference in users' perceptions on public libraries. Furthermore, there was no meaningful difference in the perceptions on cultural programs between public libraries and other cultural organizations. A possible explaining factor to the results based on the interviews and existing research reports was identified as the lack of identity in the library cultural programs. Consequently, further studies on public libraries' identity, cooperation between research and practice in public libraries, discussion with cultural organizations in the library district, and considerations in public policy are suggested in order to strengthen the identity in the library cultural programs.

Public library statistics can be a useful tool for measuring public library resources and services and also supporting management process including planning and policy development. This study attempts to present an advanced national public library statistics system to report accurate description of public library situation. Main user groups and useful areas of public library statistics were identified through literature review, and the emerging trends of public library statistics systems at the national and international levels were summarized. Current public library statistics system, annually collected and published by the Korean Library Association, was analyzed and ways for the improvement were suggested particularly in the aspects of validity, reliability, consistency, currency, and utility.
