In this study of Eccentric Braced Frames have identified the following target eccentricity on the length of the inelastic behavior of the reaction by calculating the correction factor by comparing it to the value suggested by the earthquake provided material for the rational design aims to There are. As a variable-length V-braced frame analysis model stations were set up. Eccentricity faults in the model according to the length stiffness ratio, the maximum amount of energy dissipation were analyzed base shear and multi-layered model of the reaction from the eccentricity correction factor calculated on the length of the building standards proposed by KBC 2009 in response eccentricity correction factor calculated from The length varies. does not have the same response modification factor was confirmed.
Special concentrically braced frames(SCBFs) have distinctive advantages in considerable seismic performance, which make engineers widely use SCBFs as lateral-load resisting systems in buildings and have researchers to develop SCBFs design methods. Compared to the extensive research of SCBF, comparatively little information is currently available on the performance of SCBFs designed and constructed before the early 1990's. Prior to 1988, concentrically braced frames(CBFs) design requirements were substantially less restrictive. As a result, many existing structures designed to these requirements may not ensure ductility and pose a significant concern in current buildings. In this study, these older frames are referred as non-seismic braced frames(NCBFs). In order to investigate the seismic behavior of NCBFs, finite-element(FE) models of SCBF and NCBF were suggested and verified using case investigation of NCBF conducted on the University of Washington. Using these models, the seismic behavior of NCBF with shared welding shear tab, which is the representative of the types of connections, was established and compared with the seismic performance of SCBF.
According to the capacity design concept underlying current steel seimsic provisions, the braces in concentrically braced frames should dissipate seismic energy through cyclic tension yielding and compression buckling. On the other hand, the beams and the columns in the braced bay should remain elastic for gravity load actions and additional column axial forces resulting from the brace buckling and yielding. However, due to the difficulty in accumulating the yielding and buckling-induced column forces from different stories, empirical and often conservative approaches have been used in design practice. Recently a totally different approach was proposed by Cho, Lee, and Kim (2011) for the prediction of column axial forces in inverted V-braced frames by explicitly considering brace buckling. The idea proposed in their study is extended to X-braced seismic frames which have structural member configurations and load transfer mechanism different from those of inverted V-braced frames. Especially, a more efficient rule is proposed in combining multi-mode effects on the column axial forces by using the modal-mass based weighting factor. The four methods proposed in this study are evaluated based on extensive inelastic dynamic analysis results.

A self-centering energy-dissipative(SCED) bracing system has recently been developed as a new seismic force resistant bracing system. The advantage of the SCED brace system is that, unlike other comparable advanced bracing systems that dissipate energy such as the buckling restrained brace(BRB) system, it has a self-centering capability that reduces or eliminates residual building deformations after major seismic events. In order to investigate the effects of torsion on the SCED brace and BRB systems, nonlinear time history analyses were used to compare the responses of 3D model structures with three different amounts of frame eccentricity. The results of the analysis showed that the interstory drifts of SCED braced frames are more uniform than those of BRB frames, without regard to irregularity. The residual drift and residual rotation responses tended to decrease as irregularity increased. For medium-rise structures, the drift concentration factors(DCFs) for SCED systems were lower than those for BRB frames. This means that SCED-braced frames deform in a more uniform manner with respect to building height. The effect of the torsional irregularity on the magnitude of the DCFs was small.

Steel Braced frames are a commonly-used seismic resisting system, and chevron steel braced frames are a frequently used type of steel braced frame. Recent research has indicated that the seismic performance of braced frames can be improved by designing the braced frame gusset plate connections in a manner that direct reflects seismic deformation demands, and by permitting yielding in the gusset plate at select performance levels. A parametric study using Finite Element (FE) models was conducted to examine the influence of the gusset plate and framing elements on the seismic performance of chevron braced frames, and to calibrate and develop improved design models. The impact of the frame details, including frame sizes, clearance requirements, gusset plate thickness and tapered plate, was explored. The results suggested that proper detailing of the connection can result in a significant improvement in the frame performance. The results also show that the gusset plate thickness has a significant impact on frame performance.

In this study the progressive collapse potential of braced frames were investigated using the nonlinear static and dynamic analyses. All of nine different brace types were considered along with a special moment-resisting frame for comparison. According to the pushdown analysis results, most braced frames designed per current design codes satisfied the design guidelines for progressive collapse initiated by loss of a first story mid-column; however most model structures showed brittle failure mode. This was caused by buckling of columns after compressive braces buckled. Among the braced frames considered, the inverted- V type braced frames showed superior ductile behavior during progressive collapse. The nonlinear dynamic analysis results showed that all the braced frame model structures remained in stable condition after sudden removal of a column, and their deflections were less than that of the moment-resisting frame.

Most of the columns in centrally braced steel frame buildings are usually designed as the gravity columns to reduce connection cost. For a rational seismic performance evaluation of centrally braced steel frame buildings, it is important to properly incorporate in the analysis the P-${\Delta}$ effects arising from the gravity columns. An effective scheme for the P-${\Delta}$ effects modeling due to the gravity columns was illustrated based on the concept of fictitious leaning column. Seismic performance evaluation of inverted V braced steel frames with or without P-${\Delta}$ effects modeling was conducted by following the FEMA 273 NSP (Nonlinear Static Procedure). The problem in estimating dynamic P-${\Delta}$ modification factor (C3) in FEMA 273 was discussed. The results of this study indicated that the P-${\Delta}$ effects should be included in the seismic performance evaluation of centrally braced steel frames. This study also showed that the inverted V braced frames, retrofitted by applying the tie bars to redistribute the inelastic demand over the height of the building, exhibit significantly improved seismic performance.

Many researchers have studied on the optimal seismic design with the development of the computer. So far the application structure of most researches on the optimal seismic design was almost the moment resisting frame. Because the braced frames are the representative lateral load resisting system with the moment resisting frames, it is estimated that the effect on the practice will be great if it can is provided a design guideline through the development of optimal seismic design model for the braced frames. The purpose of this study is to propose the optimal seismic design model for the inverted V-type special concentrically braced frames considering the buckling of braces. The objective functions of this are to minimize the structural weight and maximize the total dissipated energy of the structure and the constraints of this are the strength conditions for the column, beam, brace and inter-story drifts condition. To verify the proposed model, it is applied to 2D steel concentrically braced frames of 3-story and 9-story.
Hook bolt brace is being used to construct pre-engineered building's (PEB) systematic frames in steel factory building, but they pose difficulties in terms of their structural performance. There are also few studies on their behavior and there is a need to develop elementary techniques by conducting loading tests on other types of braces (e.g., rod bar, rod shoe, angle), which is used in Japan and the USA. Its structural performance is compared with that of current hook bolt-type brace. Therefore, in this study, we present a basic step in the structural performance of these specimens to examine its performance qualitatively and theof application to PEB frames.
Design and detailing requirements of seismic provisions for Concentrically Braced Frames (CBF) were specified based on the premise that bracing members with large KL/r and low b/t have superior seismic performance. However, relatively few tests have been done to investigate the cyclic behavior of CBF. Therefore, the question lies on whether the compression member of CBF plays as significant a role as what has been typically assumed by design providers. In this paper, existing experimental data were reviewed to quantify the extent of hysteretic energy achieved by bracing members in past compression tests as well as the extent of degradation of the compression force given repeated cycling loading.
