  • One of the important parts on multimedia era is acoustic ones. With increased demand of smallest multimedia products such as personal digital assistant (PDA) and mobile phones, it is necessary to develop acoustic devices which have higher performance and smaller size. Acoustic parts with various function for hearing impaired persons. This paper introduces a bone conduction vibrator (BCV) for hearing impaired persons to use portable acoustic device without additional devices. For vibration analysis of the BCV, electromagnetic, mechanical and their coupling effects are considered for the analysis. This paper shows that the development of design and analysis technique by finite element method (FEM) of BCV.

  • This paper describes characteristics of a bone conduction telephone which was developed for conductive hearing impaired persons to call without additional devices and results of its performance test. Not only the hearing impaired but also normal hearing persons can use this telephone because we developed a bone conduction vibrator with which they can perceive speech signal using functions of air conductive hearing as well as bone conductive hearing. It also has tone control function compensating hearing losses for the hearing impaired originating from their hearing characteristics, and using this function together with received volume control it has received volume range of 20dB in loudness rating, which is similar effect as what a telephone set with built-in received amplifier has. From results of articulation and intelligibility tests for 19 hearing impaired persons, we can see that if their bone-conduction hearing loss is 61dB or less, they can understand words or sentences and response well with this telephone.

  • A dental ultrasonic surgical instrument, commercially known as a scaler, is a high-value-added advanced technology that is used for tartar removal, implant operations, and gum and jaw bone surgery. In this study, the piezoelectric phenomenon for making linear motion associated with input electrical signals was studied, and the behavior of the ultrasonic vibrator was investigated by using the commercially available finite element program ANSYS(R) for the purpose of designing dental surgery tools. Modal analysis was carried out, and the optimal frequency range was calculated from the analyzed results. The ultrasonic vibrator was then redesigned based on the calculated optimal frequency range. The performance of the system was tested, and consequently, the proposed methodology was proven useful in vibrator design.

  • As long-span and light-weight deck floor slab are flexible and have low inherent damping, the significant floor vibration could be induced by residents' activities. These floor vibrations affect to safety and serviceability of building structures. So the vibration criteria are applied to the quality assessment of building structure. Therefore, the accurate vibration analysis should be performed for the correct assessment of deck floor slab. In this paper, practical analysis method with considering orthotropic rigidity of deck floor is proposed tot the accurate vibration analysis of dock floor slabs with form deck plates.

  • In this paper, a new type of implantable middle ear hearing aid, which consists of external loop coil, a small magnet and a simple external device, is proposed. The internal device of proposed type consists of only a small magnet and the external device does not need to be positioned behind the ear or in the ear canal. The proposed type is excellent in cosmetic sides and very convenient to use, because the external device can be hidden in upper garment and collar of clothes. Also, purposely this type doesn't need to be small on the size of battery, which means it has longer battery life. Therefore, the battery is not necessary to be charged frequently. It also can solve the difficulty of gap calibration at surgical operation which conventional Implantable middle. Therefore, the battery is not necessary to be charged frequently. It also can solve the difficulty of gap calibration at surgical operation which conventional implantable middle ear hearing aid has. We investigate the performance of proposed implantable middle ear bearing aid and we analyze that proposed type is appropriate for mild and severe hearing impaired person and the result of experiment showed the accuracy of our analysis. For the validation of our analysis we used the temporal bone at the experiment and confirm that ossicles can be vibrated when the proposed system In startled in the body.

  • The purpose of the present study was to describe the morphological and skeletal development of the larvae and juvenile of Ilisha elongata(Bennett). The larvae(mean 5.02 mm in total length, TL) opened the mouth and anus with 36~38+15~16=51~54 myotomes, and anus located about 73.0% of TL. The clavicle of shoulder girdle was ossified. The larvae(mean 7.82 mm in TL) have all fin-fold differentiated and its caudal notochord began to flex. Parasphenoid of cranium and dentary of the lower jaw were ossified. The caudal notochord of the larva(mean 9.84 mm) was flexed $45^{\circ}$, and anus located about 67.0% of TL. The body height of the larvae(mean 23.32 mm in TL) were 18.0~20.0% of TL, and the aggregate numbers of all fin rays were completed. Ossification was completed in the larva of mean 26.52 mm in TL.

  • Puretone audiometer, which is a machine used for measuring the minimum hearing threshold, can be cost-effectively implemented using computer with sound card and software. In this paper, we describe a puretone audiometer which has been designed and implemented based on a general PC with sound card. It supports air conduction and bone conduction test taking with automatic masking. It also provides multiple modes consisted of self-test, auto-test and manual test mode. Such multiple modes makes it possible to use in various environments like as home and/or hospital. Through measure of waveform of output voltage and sound pressure, we verified that puretone audiometer of this paper properly operates.

  • Generally, fully implantable middle ear hearing device (F-IMEHD) is implanted under the skin nearby human temporal bone with all components including implantable microphone and vibration transducer. The microphone and transducer have different characteristic before and after implant. Fitting process is performed for this characteristic change of them and proper performance of hearing aids for each patient. Conventional hearing aids and partially implantable hearing aids, they have wired connector for fitting process. However in case of F-IMEHD, it is difficult this wired connection, because all components of F-IMEHD is implanted. In this paper, fitting software that can be apply wireless fitting hardware for F-IMEHD has been designed and implemented. It can find out proper fitting parameter reflecting characteristics of the microphone and transducer for patients who has difficulty in hearing.
