Automatic Object Recognition in 3D Measuring Data (3차원 측정점으로부터의 객체 자동인식)

  • Automatic object recognition in 3D measuring data is of great interest in many application fields e.g. computer vision, reverse engineering and digital factory. In this paper we present a software tool for a fully automatic object detection and parameter estimation in unordered and noisy point clouds with a large number of data points. The software consists of three interactive modules each for model selection, point segmentation and model fitting, in which the orthogonal distance fitting (ODF) plays an important role. The ODF algorithms estimate model parameters by minimizing the square sum of the shortest distances between model feature and measurement points. The local quadric surface fitted through ODF to a randomly touched small initial patch of the point cloud provides the necessary initial information for the overall procedures of model selection, point segmentation and model fitting. The performance of the presented software tool will be demonstrated by applying to point clouds.

  • A fast and precise technique to measure 3-dimensional coordinates of an object is proposed. It is essential to take the 3-dimensional measurements of the object in design and inspection. Using this developed system a surface model of a complex shape can be constructed. 3-dimensional world coordinates are projected onto a camera plane by the perspective transformation, which plays an important role in this measurement system. According to the shape of the object two measuring methods are proposed. One is rotation of an object and the other is translation of measuring unit. Measuring speed depending on image processing time is obtained as 200 points per second. Measurement resolution i sexperimented by two parameters among others; the angle between the laser beam plane and the camera, and the distance between the camera and the object. As a result of these experiments, it was found that measurement resolution ranges from 0.3mm to 1.0mm. This constructed surface model could be used in manufacturing tools such as rapid prototyping machine.

STL mesh based laser scan planning system for complex freeform surfaces (STL 메쉬를 이용한 자유곡면의 레이저 측정경로 생성 연구)

  • Laser scanners are getting used more and more in reverse engineering and inspection. For CNC-driven laser scanners, it is important to automate the scanning operations to improve the accuracy of capture point data and to reduce scanning time in industry. However, there are few research works on laser scan planning system. In addition, it is difficult to directly analyze multi-patched freeform models. In this paper, we propose an STL (Stereolithography) mesh based laser scan planning system for complex freeform surfaces. The scan planning system consists of three steps and it is assumed that the CAD model of the part exists. Firstly, the surface model is approximated into STL meshes. From the mesh model, normal vector of each node point is estimated. Second, scan directions and regions are determined through the region growing method. Also, scan paths are generated by calculating the minimum-bounding rectangle of points that can be scanned in each scan direction. Finally, the generated scan directions and paths are validated by checking optical constraints and the collision between the laser probe and the part to be scanned.

A Study of Joint System for Groundwater Pathway (지하수 유로 조사를 위한 절리계의 응용지질학적 분석)

  • The study area, Beulgok-myon Nonsan-goon Chungcheongnan-do is consist of Changri slate(Och, okcheon system), lithic tuff(Kslt, kyoungsang system), granite (Kqb, kyoungsang system) and quartz porphyry(Kgf, kyoungsang system). More than 3000 joints were measured and classified by direction. Main dipdirection/dips of Kqb are 228~257/73~88, 010~150/70~85, Och are 134~164/40~90, 214~249/55~89, Kslt are 291~332/75~82, 235~241/73~71. But Kgf are not appeared distinct directions of joint. In field, p-wave velocities(Vp) are measured on the bed rock. Vp of Kgf are $5000m(240^{\circ})~2380(360^{\circ})m/s$, Kqb are $3846(210^{\circ})~1408(150^{\circ})m/s$, Kslt are $5000(360^{\circ})~2323(150^{\circ})m/s$ and Och are $6657(180^{\circ})~2000(030^{\circ})m/s$. Also P-wave velocities on specimen are measured. It is slightely higher than it's measured on the bed rock. For engineering properties of rock, we measured Poisson's ratio, rigidity, Young's modulus and bulk modulus by dynamic method.

The Study on the Design and Manufacturing of Large Aperture Cassegrain antenna (대구경 카세그레인 안테나의 설계 및 제작 고찰)

  • The design and manufacfure technology of the large aperture cassegrain antenna was first studied in the country, and its performances in a trial manufactured product are measured and compared. In order to design this cassegrain antenna with reference to several literatures, the schemed order was decided. Especially, for the cassegrain antenna of 4.6m diameter which is becoming the television receiving antenna directly from satellite, in advanced countries, the 1/12 sized small section of its parabolic curved surface is made primarily with the precision of less difference than 1/16λ depth. Cares are taken also on the computer program so that the size and position of primary radiator may satisfy the minimum blocking with the given sub-reflector. The preformances of the designed antenna are shown as being 43dB in gain, 1.15 or less in VSWR, 1.1$^{\circ}$ of beam angle etc., and found to be not worse than those of foreign productions with similar type and size.

  • The stealth technology can increase the survivability of aircrafts or warships and enhance the capability of mission completion in hostile territory. The purpose of this paper is to present the low observable structure with curved surfaces made by fiber-reinforced composites and to show the possibility of developing omnidirectional stealth platforms for military applications. In this study, we developed a radar absorbing structures(RAS) based on a circuit analog absorber to reduce the radar cross section(RCS) of an object with curved surfaces. Firstly, the RAS with a periodic square patterned conducting polymer layer was designed and simulated using a commercial 3-D electromagnetic field analysis program. Secondly, the designed semi-cylindrical structure with low RCS was fabricated using fiber-reinforced composites and conducting polymer. To make the periodic pattern layer, acts as resistive sheet, the intrinsic conducting polymer paste containing PEDOT with a polyurethane binder was used. Finally, the radar cross section was measured to evaluate the radar absorbing performances of the fabricated RAS by the compact range facility in POSTECH.

Design of Reconfigurable Frequency Selective Surface Using Patch Array and Grid Structure (패치 배열과 그리드 구조를 이용한 재구성 주파수 선택 구조 설계)

  • In this paper, the reconfigurable frequency selective surface for C-band was designed using patch array and grid structure. Frequency reconfigurability was obtained by varying the capacitance from varactor diode. From the optimized design parameters, we fabricated the reconfigurable frequency selective surface using the FPCB(Flexible Printed Circuit Board) and commercial varactor diode and measured the frequency reconfigurability for different bias voltage. From the measurement results, proposed structure has the wideband operating frequency of 6.6~7.6 GHz. We can applied this proposed structure to the smooth curved surface like as radome of aircraft or warship.

A Study of the Laboratory Scale Measurement Technique of P-Wave Velocity for the Assessment of the An isotropy of Engineering Property of Rock (암석의 공학적 이방성 측정을 위한 실험실내 P파 속도 측정기법에 대한 연구)

  • This study was focused on the improvement of the measurement technique of P-wave velocity for the assesment of the anisotropy of the engineering property of rock. Samples used were collected from a working quarry within the Carnmenellis granite area on which series of engineering geological data have been accumulated. This study mainly concerned the development of measurement technique at the curved surface of rock, the use of natural honey-based coupling agent and the drying method for rock specimen over $P_2O_5$. According to the results, the range of the P-wave velocity anisotropy in two dimensional plane, fell between 0 and 4.68 (%). The direction where maximum velocity occurred was parallel to the orientation of the maximum in-situ stress. The result showed that P - wave velocity is a useful measure to asses the anisotropy of the engineering property of rock and it is suggested that the improvements adopted here can be applied to the experimental work on the rocks in Korea.

  • Reverse Engineering 기술을 이용하여 금형 형상을 측정하고 이를 이용하여 자동차 주요 대형 성형 부품에 대하여 유한 요소 성형 해석을 수행하여 성형 인자들의 영향에 대하여 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. (1) Reverse Engineering 기술의 사용은 대형 자동차 성형 부품에 대하여 성형 해석을 위한 금형 CAD 데이터를 확보하는데 유용함을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 보다 적극적으로 사용되기 위해서는 곡면 생성의 시간 단축과 제품 면에 발생한 주름에 의한 형상 차이 등의 문제를 해결하여야 할 과제가 남아 있다. (2) 성형 해석을 위하여 자동차 외판 부품 Trunk lid outer에 대하여 성형 해석을 수행 결과 부픔의 성형성에 영향을 주지 않는 한도 내에서 r값과 n 값이 낮은 소재를 사용하는 것이 부품의 형상 동결성을 확보하는데 유리한 것을 알 수 있었다. (3) 판재 성형 부품에 대한 적절한 소재의 재질 선정 방법으로서 유한 요소 해석이 매우 유용한 것을 알 수 있었다.

Quality Improvement of B-spline Surfaces through Fairing of Data Points (측정점의 순정을 통한 B-스플라인 곡면 품질의 개선)

  • In reverse engineering, existing products are digitized fur the computer modeling. Using the digitized data, surfaces are modeled for new products. However, in the digitizing process measuring errors or deviations can be happened often in practice. Thus, it is important to adjust such errors or deviations during the computer modeling. To adjust the errors, fairing of the modeled surfaces is performed. In this paper, we present a surface fairing algorithm based on various fairness metrics. Fairness metrics can be discrete. We adopt discrete metrics for fairing given 3D point set. The fairness metrics include discrete principal curvatures. In this paper, automatic fairing process is proposed for fairing given 3D point sets for surfaces. The process uses various fairness criteria so that it is adequate to adopt designers'intents.
